Delta & Celine- Parallel Careers and The Trouble With Sony

I think largely it has to do with the stigma around the artist, although MHWGO was enormous beyond expectations, it's now a song she's forever associated with and that she cops a beating for, many cringe at this song, and sometimes i think of many songs that really could have made it like "Fade Away" for example I feel could be very well received but due to the fact her name is attached to it makes people think negatively about her, well that's the impression I get here in Australia. There are too many poor decisions made on behalf of either Sony or her management I don't know what's worse, but they do so much to build up this new image of her, the kind-of rock girl Celine, did they succeed? in my opinion, no, even thought they had everything at their disposal. Firstly calling the album Taking Chances people are expecting something completely different. Sure it's not the same old Celine but still it's not a huge jump in this reinvention of her image. I think Taking Chances is a gem though and had it have been heavily publicized, and more rockier songs released rather than playing it safe I think it could have been HUGE, and Falling Into You huge, she doesn't get the respect and attention anymore which is really sad. Taking Chances should have been an exciting time in her career, and again with the My Love Essential Collection whatever work they did for the new image of Taking Chances has been shut down due to this album, the name My Love again evokes the images of old Celine and the new editions TCAT, IKILY and DWMF which many average fans wouldn't have heard of is typical of 90s Celine. They are back at square 1 if you ask me...

MHWGO is the best thing that happened to Celine...I'm sick of the song ya

but i dont regret she did it...It made her who she is. The problem is the fricken retirement at the hight of her carrer TTWII was a huge hit here in the US and then Boom CELINE gone. I understand why but imagine if she would have produced another great album after All The Way CD more grammies more everything. but all in all im happy she did have her miracle child thats more important but she needs a new album with a HUGE duet with an R&B artist to boost her back up...people will buy her album for the duet and they will relize that she has good stuff on there too

BOOm there INSTANT Celine Dion fans!! Faster than INSTANT PUDDIN'

i totally agree - if Celine hadnt taken a break from 2000 then i think her career would have carried on going to new heightd (if it could after MHWGO!) but it was obvious she wanted and needed a break and for her it was the right decision. maybe it wasnt in the best interests of her career but thats clearly not her first priority anymore. the problem is is that we could carry on saying "what if" and "why" until we're blue in the face but it wont change anything from the past. i think sony could do an awful lot more to promote her new albums though!

When she had her break it was up to Céline and her team to shake that image, but unfortunatly after a good start, they killed it with releasing GTSW and going to stay in the desert for 5 years, which killed the singles of OH, 1f4t and Miracle! Plus Céline sang her old hits (like MHWGO on the View) over and over again, so people would still associate her with it...

I think Madonna and Mariah are more respected by the media, because they write their own songs. It always gives them more credit than Céline and Whitney. Having Mariah write for Céline is not such a bad idea. Mariah is a great songwriter and it would be great media publicity. A Madonna/Céline collabortion would do the same.

I don't think it had to do with credit for their own writings. I think it had more to do with the way they are always in the tabloids and their 'sexual' sides plus the fact that they are american.

Why Australians are not so proud of their own stars (Tina Arena!) is a big question mark to me. Although I do have to say that it's the same here in the Netherlands. We have a few vocal diva's here: Glennis Grace, Michèle, Edsilia Rombley, but as long as your name is not Trijntje Oosterhuis, you won't get any airplay...

i really really can't stand glennis grace! ik vind haar een plat ordinair wijf! bah! hahaha

yeah you are so right! It could have been so different, different singles, different setlists, different image from the 'ballad' singer.. instead they played it safe and took no chances what so ever! I hope they really are back at square one and ML is the last album under sony!

Yes Miracle and One Heart just did wonders for her career, good move Sony Good Move!

and the one wonder that did came from 1f4t, TLDH no 1 in France, wasn't even performed on the tour!!!! :furious: except for one night

I think OH should have been released later and HYEBIL should have been the 3rd single of ANDHC. I didn't expected hits of Miracle, but I do believe some songs, like ISSW or MPO never had the chance to be known by the world! :(

I actually like the concept of the Mirac;e project and the fact she was Passionate about it.

As for One Heart with the exception of I Drove All Night the album belongs in the bin! Poor excuse for a Celine album, way below standard.

If I was producing to make ANDHC an even more exceptional album I would have scrapped At Last and Nature Boy and perhaps Aun Existe Amor and replaced them with I Drove All Night, One Heart and Reveal, that would be perfection

I also wonder why Sony did not push Tina Arena's and Lara's first English albums with a third single. True, the first one barely scrapped the Top 40, and the second totally flopped, but there were other good songs there.

denelle, i also really like the Miracle idea, but it was only promoted for 2 months, then declared dead :(

and I do like OH it's a light/ fun album... but with some more time, respect and a bit more effort from the producers and Céline herself, it could have been much better....

well Luis, the first English album of Lara was actually supported by 4 singles; Adagio, I will love again (i still don't get why that wasn't a hit!) I am who I am and Love by grace... but none of them really took off :( and from her 2nd english album there wasn't even a real single released!
