Celinefanatic07 Posted October 16, 2008 at 01:51 AM Posted October 16, 2008 at 01:51 AM Hello Everyone! I'm Maegen, Last week in school, my class practiced "College Admissions Essays". One of the topics we could write about was "Someone who's had a deep impact on you life" and I couldnt think of anyone better than our Queen Celine! So I wrote about her, and now I'd like to share with all of you what I wrote! Inspiration Not many seventeen year old‘s will say that their hero is Céline Dion. The impact she’s had on my life has been very deep. It all started when I was only two years old. The Beast and Belle are dancing their final dance. My excitement increases and deepens, because I know that the ending credits are going to roll soon. As I’m admiring the Disney masterpiece I finally hear the song, “Beauty and the Beast”. The voice fills my ears, and it slowly brings me to a tranquil state, until the notes slowly subside. Since then, I have blossomed into a Céline fanatic. I often feel like I know her personally, because in everything she does it’s with an open mind and a loving heart. She’s a beautiful person inside and out. Each one of her songs has it’s own special piece of heaven. Céline is most famous for her song “My Heart Will Go On”, but just like all of her other songs it tells a story. The stories vary from a woman telling a man that her world is about him; to trying new things and staying strong with them. If I were to be accepted into your college, I’d do exactly what Céline does. I’d take all my challenges head on, and do it with my heart open. I often look back on an interview I once saw her in. Céline is sitting in a brown chair, her hair is wavy, and she has a red dress on. She says, “My success is my family’s success...” I truly believe in that quote. The success I have in school and in my life is my family’s also. Everything I am is because of my parents. The way I honor and appreciate them is the way I will honor and appreciate your college. I will not slack and treat it as one big party. I will treat it with respect and seriousness and do my very best. I always have an open heart and open mind, along with trying new things, and staying strong. I’ll definitely try new things, especially classes I’ve never tried before. I wont let a new school and a new chapter in my life intimidate me. Quote http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k124/oldies830/mgean_2.jpgDO NOT STEAL MY SIGNATURE"It's hard in a recording studio, because I'm infront of a microphone, I have to imagine all of you and then I'm able to sing the songs for you...Now I'm still infront of a microphone, with all of you right infront of me, to see all of your faces, That's why I still do it!" (wild applause) thankyou for the flowers - Celine after a flower moment 9-22-08

It is wonderful that a young person like yourself is inspired by Celine the way you are. Not everyone recognizes that she is an absolute gift to this world, but you do...good on ya! Good luck with all your future endeavors. Celinely yours, Tracy Quote http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/5273/18771156.jpg

Annalicious Posted October 16, 2008 at 11:38 PM Posted October 16, 2008 at 11:38 PM That's sweet but depending on what college you're applying to you may be doing yourself a disservice. If you apply to a very competitive school then they will probably think you are lacking in intellectual curiosity as your classmates will be writing about a serious major historical figure (an ex-president, Dr. King, a leader of a field they hope to go into) or someone who holds more personal significance (like a relative, caretaker, teacher, etc.) than a celebrity that you don't interact with on a regular basis if it all. But if you're applying to a school that just wants you to be able to string a sentence together then you will impress them thoroughly. Quote
Love, Posted October 17, 2008 at 01:15 AM Posted October 17, 2008 at 01:15 AM I agree with Anna. What you've written is sweet and personal for you. Although this is just a practice essay, when the time comes for you to prepare a real essay with this topic (if it is this topic of someone-who's-made-an-impact-on-your-life) - you will have to treat it more as an essay to impress rather than something you would send to try to get on the Oprah Winfrey Show. LOL Bear in mind that you will be applying to educational institutions and you want the representatives at the colleges to take you seriously. Quote
hellmeister Posted October 17, 2008 at 04:44 AM Posted October 17, 2008 at 04:44 AM that was lovely I have written a few college essays (for English and Music classes) aboutour dear Queen Celine I love it!!!!!!! Quote

LOL Bear in mind that you will be applying to educational institutions and you want the representatives at the colleges to take you seriously. You are right in that they may not take her seriously... but it is possible. I wrote my big final paper on Celine and got an A in my Literature/English class... Quote

venezia7 Posted October 17, 2008 at 09:22 AM Posted October 17, 2008 at 09:22 AM Great essay, well done. Good luck I know what you mean about there not being many 17year old Celine fans! I am 16 and all my friends really tease me about being a Celine fan. But I don't care I am a proud Celine fan. Quote http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e381/goldengryffindor/Celinedionsig-1.jpg

lyn Posted October 18, 2008 at 03:55 PM Posted October 18, 2008 at 03:55 PM (edited) I agree with Soph, It's great to write something that you feel passionately about and that has obviously inspired you -- I think it has the chance to stand out. But at the same time, don't take this one chance you have to show them who YOU are, to show them who Celine is instead. i.e. the part about her song being parts of heaven, or how she looked like in the interview. Things like that definitely show you're a Celine fan, but do not translate into how that makes yOu a better person, and an excellent candidate for the school. Bear in mind also that the non-Celine fan's response to this essay miGht automatically be to switch off the moment they see the word Celine Dion. For that reason you might want to ease into it by starting it with your own, personal strong ideas of who you should be/what you want to do in college/ how you want to succeed, and then show how they have been informed and brought to greater heights by Celine Dion. Use lyrics as inspiration carefully, because you don't want to come across like you're building your life around the platitudes of a song. Going down that direction, you'd also be answering what Song had a deep impact on your life instead of what person. So keeping that in mind, work around Celine's life story maybe, because it's hEr the pERson that has inspired you. Your part on her quote, “My success is my family’s success...” is very good, there's a good start there so keep building on it by saying how exactly you yoursELF have applied this in your life already, and more about why it is personally important to you. Just a few tips! Remember, don't let your Celine fanatacism distract you from the main purpose of the essay! You want to get into college, not convert your reader! But at the same time you have here a lot of good and unique raw material at your disposal because Celine has in fact inspired you so profoundly. Make your essay stand out, over every one else's essays about their mothers or Gandhi. ETA: Lol sorry did noT notice the 'practice essay' part. But anyway, I guess it's still advice to consider eventually, yeah?
