The Perfect French Album

So - last night - I was driving a friend home...and I introduced her to Celine's French music. She was, needless to say, blown away - at the intimacy, the quality of her voice, etc.

 

She asked for a CD encompassing Celine's greatest French songs. And I know which ones I believe to be the greatest...but I'd like other opinions.

 

I want a well rounded CD - with all the greats...as well as different tempo and style.

If I were making a French Celine CD for a friend, it would probably look something like this:

 

1. J'attendais

2. On ne change pas

3. Les paradises

4. Je danse dans ma tete

5. Regarde-moi

6. Terre

7. Tu nages

8. Je ne suis pas celle

9. Pour que tu m'aimes encore

10. Le blues du businessman

11. Dans un autre monde

12. Tout l'or des hommes

13. A cause

14. L'amour existe encore

15. Contre nature

16. Destin

17. Et s'il n'en restait qu'une...

19. Tous les blues sont ecrits pour toi

It's not necessarily that these songs are all my absolute favorites (though many of them are), but I think it gives a good overview of the variety of Celine's French music.

There are many songs that surpass the ones on ONCP - Mon homme, Papillon, J'attendais, as well as a couple of songs from the D'elles album.....

It's amazing how similar my tracklist so far is in comparison to this one! Even opening the album with the hauntingly amazing "J'attendais" to closing it with the bittersweet "Vole". Exactly what I had invisioned. We do have some differences though...

if u want a collection of her best french recordings, pick up a copy of On Ne Change Pas and For You.

 

BUT if you want a REAL gem, pick up S'il Suffisait D'aimer or D'elles.

There is no perfect French album - all the French songs are great!! It's hard to choose which are the best to put in on one CD. The best album will be if you have all songs on one CD
