Liking Celine used to be cool (kinda), then everyone got sick of MHWGO, now they've moved on :-//

 

But really the download thing is an easy excuse but I don't think it's the problem here given that Celine's demographic is mostly soccer moms who are not sitting around searching for torrents. Sony hasn't been doing much promo but she fills her shows and that's where she earns her shopping money and Rene's gambling millions so they don't have much cause for concern. When she stops filling up shows then you'll see Rene worry.

nearly all of her original Sony proponents have exited the company, leaving few to embrace her command of an everlasting base—i.e., that of labelmate Barbra Streisand—if only properly promoted.

actually what makes her stay, what kind of contract does she have? I guess if she wants to leave to another major company she needs another big commercial hit, because they only sign the big sellers nowadays. Kind of sad

Yes it's a good honest review, although quite strange there's no mention at all of the new album. However it get the point across, quite strongly as well, that Sony are truly messing up with Celine and continue to do so and in terms of being able to sell music are slowing ruining her legacy.

Thanks Chuck for this review which hopefully inspire the people who matter to look at thing from other angles. Like many of the fans here I have been frustrated and extremely annoyed by the lack of promotion. Sometimes I feel like they solely rely on her fanbase knowing that even if they do nothing she will still sell a certain amount.

I also wonder why Céline and René let it happen. I know they usually are faithful to the people who helped them first and insist on working with people they trust. But it's obvious Sony is no longer the best choice for her career. She is still extremely succesful doing live gigs and her priority seems to be there in the last 6,7 years. So I guess that a switch to Live Nation would be the most logical choice. I hope Céline and René seriously consider switching labels after her current contract expires (who knows what kind of contract she has now? Chuck?). Chuck, what are your ideas on what would be the best moves Céline team/management could make to get her 'career' back on track?

I think perhaps he didnt mention the new album is because it's not a new album haha it makes for sence to use the review to plug the taking chances album seen as it is rightfully from that.

celine really did deliver a good album (and a great "my love" which should have been the second single right when the tour kicked off)

all signs point to the fact the she is surrounded by the wrong people - record company and management/husband.

 

everybody put celines career to risk lately - everybody was so lucky that the playback issue did not blow in their faces.

bad advisors everywhere you look.

 

again: i was very critical about her lately but she delivered a great album, did a great job performing the new songs live - all this playback s**t was not necessary, if she does sing live she sounds better then ever.

her outdoor shows were a disaster. nothing more to add to that. so many people where shocked by the lack of show and qualitiy.

and the promotion of her album with singles was a disaster as well.

 

this is the perfect expamle how to screw the career of one of the worlds best singers.

That's a good review, very true. Thanks for sharing with us I hope Sony will see this & wake up. I really hated seeing Taking Chances disappear as it did, its has such great songs. And while I'm looking for the Essential album it would have been better to breathe some life back into Taking Chances. Oh well let's see if this has any effects

She could always do what Dolly Parton did and create her own label. True, she'd have to work harder and hire some good PR people and really promote herself, but she could still do it.
