I think the perfect pitch topic is really interesting since it doesn't seem to be really established how you learn it.

I still think most people that claims to have "perfect pitch" only has a extremely high degree of "relative pitch". I mean you can still learn to such high degree that you can be mistaken for "perfect pitch". At least what I've read about this.

but i want to learn to play piano. I can play piano using one hand only by listening. So, if i listen to a movie score. I can play that on piano by just listening to the tune but first i need to find the note on the piano keys after finding them all.. i can play it smoothly It’s hard to use both hands. By the way, I’m playing piano on Garageband on my iPad lol

 

i can even play the intro of Incredible. I didn’t even look on the internet. I‘ll just play it until i find the right note on the keys on piano

if i study music maybe. Vocal coach can know that without going to the piano. I think if you study music more you can know these notes without going to the piano.

 

The issue here is we’re assuming that Céline can’t read notes. She’s playing instruments like guitar and piano. I’m sure she knows F5 or B natural lol

i rather believe that she can read notes than assume that she can’t since first of all we really don’t know for sure but she’s a singer, she did study music compared to us

I’m pretty sure Céline doesn’t play either of those instruments, at least not to a significant degree of proficiency. Yes, there are clips of her “playing” the piano but anyone can memorize a few chords. She said it herself in ‘Céline face à Dion’ a few years ago “Je joue pas du piano”. About the guitar, I vaguely remember something about Céline and a guitar but that was long ago (maybe 20 years) and I don’t think she ever really took it seriously.

I am pretty sure I've read or seen a video discribing this story somewhere in the past. No? So many unrelated musical proficiencies being conflated here.

 

Perfect pitch does not equal singing on pitch does not equal ability to read music does not equal playing by ear does not equal knowledge of music theory does not equal ability to play a musical instrument.

 

While these abilities can certainly complement and inform each other to make someone more musically well-rounded and proficient, one is not a requirement for any of the others.

Interesting link. And that link shows how "perfect pitch" is an automatic ability rather some ability you've learned. Although perfect and relative pitch goes hand in hand pretty well. Also a musician has more use of relative pitch compared to perfect pitch alone. Also from what I've found is that there doesn't seem to be any known cases of where true perfect pitch has been learned. The statistics shows that like 1 in 10000 have the ability and with that far from all becomes a musician. I mean what are the odds that Celine have the ability AND one of the best singing voices in the world. So I'm sceptical....sorry.

it is Dan Bigras, a well knowned singer sho says so, who would not say bullshit, to save his life. . He was quite impressed with her talent in that regard. I searched for the interview, but they don't have it anymore on the radio-Canada website.

People say stuff just to be nice sometimes. It was not part of any kind of study with regards to Celine's talents or voice. So he can say whatever he wants, it doesn't make it real.

 

Also, I remember once in a French interview that Celine said that she cannot play the guitar, which was why she loved doing the air guitar (which she did a lot around 1 Fille & 4 Types) because at least she can pretend.

 

If Celine had perfect pitch, or could play a melody by just reading notes, we would know by now. They would be talking about it in every interview. And she definitely would have done lives with her singing while playing the piano, a la Aretha or Alicia Keys. It wouldn't even have to be extraordinary, because it would be a big thing by itself. But she never did such things.

That proves nothing. Anyone can strum a few strings. I think if she actually played the guitar she would’ve at least known what the word “strum” means when recording “Map to My Heart”.

it’s understandable if she didn’t know the word “strum”. I wish they played the background when she was playing the guitar. Like they did back in 1998 when she was playing a piano when recording SSDA

 

But yeah we didn’t know for sure like all were talking about here are assumptions anyways
