In honour of the 50th anniversary of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Billboard has compiled a list of the most successful Billboard Hot 100 chart artists from the past 50 years. Madonna is #2 behind The Beatles. She is the highest ranked female and solo artist on the list. Celine Dion comes in at #70

Why is it funny? The list is based on the total number of hits artists have had on the Billboard hot 100 since 1958. Mariah has had more hits on the billboard hot 100 than Celine. It's nothing personal, it's not anti-celine or whatever. It's the reality.

This isn't anything particularly we should be worried about- Celine leads in many other polls and hitlists. Mariah has done phenomenally well in the US charts single and albums sales wise so that's why is is ranked so highly...Celine isn't a singles artist

PLUS IN THE USA THEY LOOK AT RADIO AIRPLAY MORE SO THAN SALES...SALES WISE CELINE IS MUCH HIGHER..(MORE IMPORTANT IN MY OPINION, BECAUSE IN MOST CASES THE STATION PEOPLE CHOOSE WHAT IS PLAYED....SADLY NOT THE FANS (ALTHOUGH WE DO HAVE THE CHANCE TO REQUEST.....WHATEVER GOOD THAT DOES.

 

Worldwide though she has sold more than 45 million singles and 200 million albums, regardless this is a big FEAT......

 

Janet for instance has had loads of number 1's but hasnt sold nearly as many albums....its just luck.

This is not true.

 

Here's the formula how Hot 100 is tabulated.

 

Sales are divided by 10

(so 100,000 downloads sold = 10,000 chart points)

 

Impressions are divided by 10,000

(so 100 million impressions = 10,000 chart points)

 

Streamings are divided by 500

(so 50,000 streams = 100 chart points)

 

In common terms, 100,000 downloads is equal to 100 million impressions.

 

So sales are what matters the most in the USA whereas in the UK they don't count the airplay.

 

 

And someone said that Celine is #1 in the Philippines ? Dhena can you please comfirm that ?

 

Some of you got some serious issues with Mariah and I can't understand it. They are both extremely succesful why should every ''best-voice'' countdown or ''best artist'' countdown thread to turn into a Mariah VS Celine thread. Get over it already.

I always read and could be wrong that most songs enter the billboard charts on high airplay well before they are released as Digital singles??? which must mean that it has a large impact, hence the reason certain songs stay on the chart for long periods of time and has changed over time. Anyway im from the UK and probably dont know what I am talking about.

 

On ur last point I dont think people have serious issue, some people just simply dont like Mariah. I personally think it is great she is successful but dont like her music and want celine always to be ahead of her

well i obviously can't speak on behalf of all the people here in the Philippines, but i can say they're equally huge here.

especially now that Charice is gonna do a duet with celine, celine is getting more attention than mariah.

 

but of course, if you're gonna ask me, i will pick celine any day, any time, any place.

I'm glad Celine speaks French. At least we know most of her fans don't centered just in the US. We know she'll definitely be famous in French speaking countries -> Canada + France + some other european countries that speak French.

This has definitely increase the sales of her English albums in these countries.

 

If Celine releases an english album in France, French people would think oh Celine sang Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore, I am sure this album would definitely rocks and therefore people would buy her album. So I think Celine does have a huge market on album sales around the world.
