ce-line Posted September 7, 2008 at 07:27 PM Posted September 7, 2008 at 07:27 PM Try not to think too much about it. Think about something you look forward to later in the week... And maybe try to tell yourself that there are much worser thing in life! It usually works for me. I feel the same way about dentist and exams! hehe... cdclore Posted September 7, 2008 at 09:09 PM Posted September 7, 2008 at 09:09 PM During my Senior year in high school I took a course called Allied Health which would enable me to obtain my Certified Nursing Assistant License upon graduation. Part of the course involved a working in a clinical setting for a certain number of hours, including working with actual patients at nursing homes and hospitals. Of course, before doing so we needed to be caught up on all immunizations and shots including the dreaded tetanus shot. Weeks before the actual injection day I spent a great deal of time hyping myself up for the event by asking any and everyone about their experiences. None of the stories were pleasant. Normally, I have a high tolerance for pain but when it came to needles, I actually have a ridiculous fear. My already intense fear rose even higher and when the day finally came, I felt so completely panicked that I almost opted out of having the immunization all together! After much coaxing and comforting words from my teacher and friends, I nervously took my place beside the clinic nurse and clenched my teeth in anticipation for what I thought would be the worse experience of my life. In my head I saw horror scenes of painful burning sensations and several days of not being able to move my arm. Seconds later, to my surprise, I felt a band-aid being applied. It was over! I'd had the injection and felt absolutely nothing at all! :D Thankfully, there wasn't too much soreness afterwards and I was able to work as soon as later that afternoon as well as beginning my clinicals the very next day! All the horror stories were completely untrue. I think it also depends on the nurse who gives the injection. Most experienced nurses know exactly how to apply a needle without the patient feeling so much as a prick! I wish you luck! Quote
CelineRox Posted September 7, 2008 at 09:16 PM Posted September 7, 2008 at 09:16 PM Just think, it's only a needle...there is worse pain you could have....believe me Quote http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm31/celinedion82/Emilylove-signature-1.jpg

Jacqui Posted September 7, 2008 at 11:41 PM Posted September 7, 2008 at 11:41 PM (edited) Never look at the needle. Try to think of other things. Remember how much pain and needles Celine had to go through with IVF. If you're anything like me, that'll help a little bit. I still almost passed out, screamed, cried, and ran away from the doctor though LOL.Edit: Not because of the pain, because I am a chicken. Edited September 7, 2008 at 11:41 PM by Jacqui Quote
Krys Posted September 8, 2008 at 12:28 AM Posted September 8, 2008 at 12:28 AM hmm needles...to me, they dont scare me that much. sure im bloody nervous before the injection but i stared at the needle as the nurse poked it in i know, im nuts one thing to remember though: NEVER TENSE UP YOUR ARM. you're gonna have a tough time if you do Quote
KimboCosmo Posted September 8, 2008 at 04:37 AM Posted September 8, 2008 at 04:37 AM Well, that shot is one of the worst ones, it just makes you sore afterwards...BUT, don't freak out...try to stay calm, don't watch them do it, and breathe easy...if you get real tense, then your muscles tighten up and it makes it worse when the needle goes into it, so try not to do that! It will be over before you know it! I know how you feel, I hate needles too! And I have had my fair share of them in my lifetime with all the problems I've had medically. You'll be fine...
