Why are most of concerts in USA held in an arena, not a stadium like other soils?

Is it impossible to sell out as much as 50 stadium concerts? Is an arena concert easier to sell?

Well I know for sure that when I saw Celine at the O2 Arena the sound and all the technicals aspects were about 1000000% better than when I saw, for example, The Rolling Stones at Twickenham (a huge rugby stadium in England).

 

I don't know whether it's the whole reason, but I think part of it is to do with the fact that arenas are specifically built for things like concerts, whereas stadiums are more sporting events. Therefore staging the concerts in the arenas proves for a better show, albeit with a smaller crowd.

I have a couple of theories on this.

 

For one thing, in North America there are many more venues available. Large stadiums, medium sized arenas and smaller outside ampitheatres are available. The arenas are probably the best because they are all inside, so you don't have to worry about weather, and the capacity is just about the right size for each city and you have more control of the sound/light/etc.

 

In the summer there are a lot of concerts at ampatheatres outside, but those hold less people. Celine might not be able to sell out a big football stadium in the US but she can and has sold out the arenas, which still hold a lot of people.
