Did Celine lose her voice during the D'eux tour?

Her voice was definitely weaker in 2003 compared to 2002. Her tone was always very soft in 2002, but in 2003 all of a sudden it turned 'hard' again, she had lost almost all the softness she had the year before. Comparing performances of I'm Alive from these 2 years clearly shows the change - when she tried to sing softly at the start of the song in the Vegas reharsal/CBS special it was so quiet you could barely hear her, but in 2002 this style of singing was easy for her. As for the high notes towards the end, she really struggled and sounded really whiney.

I agree about the performances of ''I'm Alive'' but the odd thing is that her 2003 performance of ''At Last'' (the one from the opening night) was just as good as her performances of this song from 2002. It's weird considering this song is harder to sing than ''I'm Alive''.

I remember watching the news on TV in Quebec during that time (Deu'x)....

 

I don't know in which city she was, but she entered the stage and she was wearing that same black dress. She told the audience that she was sorry that she had to cancel the show because she had lost her voice. People started to scream "Celine Celine Celine" and she said something like "alright, i'm going to sing one song, but you will have to help me all and sing with me" And she started to sing really lightly "Pour Que Tu m'aimes Encore". I remember they said in the news on TV, that her people weren't pleased with that cause, she wasn't supposed to sing at all because it could have caused more harm to her vocal cords....

 

Does anyone remember that?

well she certainly didn't learn her lesson because she went onstage at caesars with a broken voice and look where it got her! but i guess that's just what celine does....pushes the limits of vocal possibility. why i love her, of course...

She spoke about that incident in an interview with Sonia Benezra. It indeed happened at the Zenith in October 1995, and since they were going to film the concert that night, we have footage of Céline crying on stage and telling the audience she's not able to perform. (At least I think that's what she's saying, I don't understand French at all...)

and yeah I agree she lost most of her head voice after 1995 that's why she could never bring back those beautiful head notes from "With This Tear" or many of the songs from Dion Chante Plamondon

So, just trying to recap the issue of this topic. A few days prior to the Zenith concert series in 1995 she had serious voice problems, despite having planned a concert and album taping, right? However, she managed to get 'her voice back' right on time in order to do these concerts nonetheless.

 

I've album thought her voice on LAP was in GREAT shape, her tone beautiful, her singing wonderful; never noticed anything at all. Someone has a different take on this? Can you hear she still was not 100%?

There is hardly any footage of this tour apart from LAP. She sounded great on the DVD, but who knows - maybe she was still recovering at the time of taping? It could be that the other shows during this tour were even more impressive vocally than what we see on LAP - maybe closer to the quality of Olympia in 1994...

I noticed she lost her breathing during LCMM - which was unusual for her.

Isn't "Live a Paris" done in Oct 1995? How she lost her voice when that is one of the epic Celine performances! That Le Blues de Businessman is fabulous!
