My first attempts at sigs!

Ok i have just started creating my own sigs,hopefully when i get the hang of my programme i will make avis and wallpapers too.

Please tell me what you think so far.The first 3 are quite simple and the one in my sig was the first one i made,ever!

Im using Microsoft photo premium 10,its great but there are a few things i dont think it does(or i have not worked out how to do) like crop a person in a pic.All it does is crop in a square,possibly a circle.Also im having 'issues' with some of the shapes.They are not that good and i cant change the colour??(ie the butterfly).I can't really afford photoshop.

 

The quotes are from Celine's french songs.The first is from Rien N'est Vraiment Fini and roughly means 'As long as your voice follows mine,Nothing is really finished,Really'

 

The second is from Tous les secrets and roughly means 'I don't know,All the secrets of your heart, But I come anyway'

Have you tried GIMP? It's a free download and it has some pretty amazing features. If you want to try GIMP the website address is:

You might like it. It takes some getting used to, but there are all sorts of tutorials and free plug-ins for it. And it really is completely free!!!

 

Actually, you don't "crop" a figure out. I'm not familiar with MS Photo Premium. Do you have any selection or marquee tools, like a lasso or a magic wand? These are tools you use to select portions of pictures that you want to keep and then cut and paste them in new layers. That's one way to get rid of the stuff you don't want in the picture. The other way is to erase what you don't want. But that can be time consuming and a little iffy sometimes.

 

If you want to try GIMP and need any pointers or hints, let me know and I'll be happy to help. I've been working with it for a few days now and I'm finally beginning to catch on to it.

I am getting on ok with the programme i have (MSPP)although will probably try a couple of others too,so i will look into GIMP(what a bad name btw!! )

 

MSPP does have a magic wand but when i clicked it and tried doing stuff it didnt really do anything helpful?I need to go look at the tutorials in the help section of MSPP to get a hang of it.And the erase tool is really annoying as it leaves a grey area in the picture,i think i will look into this tool more as well because i may be able to fill the grey in with colour??

 

I cant belive there are no tools to outline a figure or shape to cut out,just block shapes??!!maybe on PS but im not going to spend money just yet

 

I read in another post about 'brushes' (e.g. flower brushes) can you get them on GIMP (or anywhere apart from PS) because that is exactly what i am looking for ?

I was bored this morning and wanted to have a play around with some pics.I made this as a stand alone pic or sig(is 600x400 pxl).It may not be very creative graphically but i had fun making it looking through lots of Celine photos

I just found out that Photoshop brushes will work in GIMP. I copied my favorite Photoshop brushes into the GIMP brush folder and when I opened GIMP, there they were! I was very excited.

 

I don't think Photoshop gradients or styles will work with GIMP, yet. But there are tons of Photoshop brushes, flowers and all sorts of things. Stephanie Shimerdla's site (www.brushes.obsidiandawn.com) has some really nice brushes. If you Google on Photoshop brushes, you'll get a ton of them, free.

I have been trying out my new PS brushes in GIMP and they are just what i was looking for! If any of you can not afford photoshop get GIMP!! Its free and you can download some amazing brushes from paintshop into GIMP and they work!(as long as you get the newest version) so expect more sigs and stuff from me with swirly,glittery,flowery,etc stuff on

I have only just got Gimp and am finding it quite hard to work out,so i am just trying to play with it as much as posible.There is a downloadable help file(or tutorial or something) which i think i will go get soon.

The best think about it though is,like i said before,you can use PS brushes with it!!
