Yes, Edwin, she did mess up royally. Both on the balance beam (fell off when she first mounted) and on the floor exercise (she fell on her back and stepped out of bounds).

 

All the American girls stepped out of bounds on the floor exercise, even Shawn Johnson, who had been so rock-steady during the other rotations. But at least they got the silver.

Cripes and we were still able to pull a Silver?! Well, I guess that's lucky for us. I was really hoping for a gold though after China took Gold in Men's Gymnastics.

Yes, I agree. And they were only a little over one point behind China going into the last rotation. If China had faltered a little and the Americans had performed at the best level, they might have been able to pull it off. Plus, I don't think China is being completely truthful about how old the girls on their team are. They look 12, not 16-20 years old. Even Bela Karolyi said that one of them looks like she's missing a tooth, a "baby tooth" being the insinuation.

But all 3 of the American girls really did not do well on the floor and Alicia REALLY tanked on the balance beam, so I guess it just wasn't in the cards.

this article is a load of codswallop. everyone knows that by the age of 6/7 kids will have lost their baby teeth and the permanents will be coming through. by the age of 8 the permaments are through. the only baby teeth left are the molars and kids start losing the molars from about the age of 12. so unless this person made these chinese girls open their mouths wide, they should just shut up. these "little" girls have probably had their growth stunted to keep them small and petite. it's a fact in gymnastics.

people have to be very very careful about this "lost tooth" issue. it's not her baby teeth that she has lost. by the age of 13 she would have all front permanents. she could have had her tooth knocked out while practising for something.

I would have preferred two more golds in gymanstics (team and uneven bars), but our women's gymnastic did medal more than the host nation. I KNOW we will get all the gold we deserve in London.

I agree USA women gymnastics team is better than Chinese. Guess we are just lucky.

 

USA is catching up in gold. 26 VS 43 now. Still a long way to go though.
