Alex_Incognito Posted July 22, 2008 at 05:39 PM Posted July 22, 2008 at 05:39 PM Estelle Getty: Thank You For Being AlivePosted Jul 22nd 2008 1:29PM by TMZ Staff "Golden Girl" Estelle Getty has gone to the big lanai in the sky and died at the age of 84, just three days shy of her 85th birthday. Estelle passed away at 5:35 AM this morning at her L.A. home surrounded by her family and caregivers. Getty had been suffering for years with Lewy Body Dementia. Although one year younger than Bea Arthur, Estelle is best known for playing her wise-cracking Sicilian mother Sophia Petrillo on "The Golden Girls." Co-star Betty White is also one year older than Estelle. Getty is survived by her two adult sons. What a sad day. Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990

Alex_Incognito Posted July 22, 2008 at 06:00 PM Author Posted July 22, 2008 at 06:00 PM To all of Estelle's Fans, Sadly, today July 22, 2008 at 5:35 a.m. Pacific Time, we said our last good-byes to our little friend Estelle, who passed away and made her journey to the great beyond. Although it was a trip that she never wanted to take, she went gracefully, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her family and her very loving care-givers. Estelle's legacy will live on and on through the comedy and laughter she gave to us all, which will forever keep us laughing out loud. For us here, who have known and cared for her for so many years, we've lost our dear little friend who always kept us entertained by filling our days with joyful laughter. Estelle's fans across the globe have lost the feisty little lady known as Sophia Petrillo, whose quick wit, cutting remarks, and outrageous punch lines will forever be quoted and remembered. Estelle was a fighter. She always stood up for the underdogs, fought for equality for all, and always pictured a world filled with "Love and Laughter" --her most favorite catch phrase. Estelle, we love you and will miss you dearly. We pray that you are met at the Pearly Gate with open arms and a warm welcome by all who have passed before you. If there's a stage over there, I know you'll be on it. If there's a thrift shop, I know you'll be shopping, and if there's a deli, I know you'll be eating there holding court with Rhoda and Sylvia ... and the laughter will be heard throughout the heavens. Goodbye, dear friend. Thank you for all the talent and love that you've shared with us during your time here on Earth. You have touched my life, and the lives of so many others who will never forget you. Until we meet again... Love, Posted July 22, 2008 at 06:19 PM Posted July 22, 2008 at 06:19 PM (edited) This is truly sad! She is one of the greatest television personalities, and truly a talent and a class act. A friend of mine starred with her on Broadway. She was ever-nurturing to him as she played his mother on-stage and was like a mother off-stage. This musical "Torch Song Trilogy" was one of the highlights of the beginning of her career. She was and has always been a beaming light of excellence, moral support, artistic integrity, wit, wisdom, and experience. "The Golden Girls" remains as fresh to me each time I see it, and it's because of Estelle's character as Sophia. There were so many funny and memorable moments from this show - but no one as memorable as Sophia. What a blessing and an honor to have had Ms. Estelle Getty in our world. I will always remember you and your beautiful spirit. Rest in peace little angel... Quote
