Why Don't the UK get singles anymore

It makes me frustrated because I want to collect all of Celine's material, but this makes it extremely hard to do so.

well, i think its just a problem world wide now because of the single being a dieing breed. The US hasnt had any pysical singles for ages now. The UK i think has even been quite the exception of late if you look at eyes on me....it was only released here. So that wa sa treat! hahaha. But yeh i dont think we'll see many more single releases which is a shame coz they're my favourite things to collect!

The last US single was "I Drove All Night", and they released it in July of 2003 (the album was released in late March!)

 

It would make sense if they JUST offered singles on a certain website. Then they could make so many---see if they sell and sell them---and just make more.

yeah that's true! singles are dying out! The netherlands hasn't had a single since TLSD, which first wouldn't be released, then later it was... and also TC was not a real single here! I don;t think there are even download singles in the netherlands of céline!

 

the last real single in the USA was TTWII/IWYTNM. France has been a bit lucky with TLDH/EJTAE,JNVOP, TSL and TC, but other songs like CN, I, AC were only radio songs

 

and that freaking sucks!!!

With the whole singles releasing, How do they do the charts? Because the "top 40" and even "top 100", people can't surely be buying them all?!

 

Its sad that they don't release her singles much anymore, Because we can't go out and buy it

 

I don't think albums in general will be out much longer, so many people download things these days, its hard for any artist to sell their records. I personally prefer having a physical CD to have.

well you see, the problem I think, is that now most top 40's or top 100's are based (too much) on airplay... and that is so biased! Everytime this 'new' artist comes along, it's the new madonna, or the new beatles, or they play the song 'because it's madonna!" (that sucks the most cos her new songs don't deserve that much airplay) and the songs are played to death, but someone like Céline isn't giving the chance to be played, because they find her 'uncool' etc...

I hate the way the music industry is gone, seems if your not into rap, punk r n b heavy music where in the videos everyone is pole dancing then you may forget about seeing anything else. maybe if celine took off all her clothes and sang crappy meaningless tunes like i.e madonna wed see more of her etc. sucks

I couldn't agree with you more. It used to be that there were different styles in music and you could listen to what you liked. Now you have to listen to what they play because there just isn't anything else. Everything sounds the same... Oh my god, I'm starting to sound like my mom

But as far as singles go, I also prefer to have one in my hands. All this downloading is fine until your ipod breaks down or your computer crashes.. It happened to me and it's not funny to try and find everything back... Is it so difficult to sell CD's on demand? Make a site where you order your album and they produce it for as many as they need? Or am I being naive here?

I think it should be why don't the major English speaking nations get her singles anymore. Here in Australia I think the last Celine sing I heard was TTWII Too long ago! Even if she did release singles in the UK or the US I'm sure if they were popular they would filter down into other country's radio airplay or charts. Given that Taking Chances is so different from her previous material I don't understand why everything is a flop. I remember reading somewhere on the forum about artists paying to have their music played I don't understand why they didn't do this with Celine quite clearly her popularity has slipped so introducing the newer material in a big way seems only natural. I know people know will be thinking "Celine doesn't care about #1 and chart success" even though she has been in the business for a long time it seems pointless to have her talent wasted

I guess nowadays, people prefer to download music using itunes. I don't think there will be many CD's selling in the future.

The reality is, pure and simply, physical CD singles just do not sell these days. In the latest UK charts last week the song at number 1 was there on downloads alone selling over 40000, the song at number 3 sold 31000 but only 6000 of them were physical cds. Madonna's "Give It 2 Me" sold 20000 and only 5000 of those were physical, so whilst there is still demand for physical single you can see downloads now far outweigh the demand. Very soon physical singles will be a thing of the past.

 

And being honest, whilst Sony UK must be commended for continuing to support Celine's albums with single releases they aren't really getting a return on their investment for doing so. The last few physical singles they have released have all charted very poorly: I'm Alive, Goodbye's The Saddest Word, One Heart and laterly Eyes On Me. All of Celine's singles in the 90's easily reached the top 10. I'd be very surprised if we seen another Celine single in the UK released physically.

I think the last single to be released in ireland was like one heart i dont get why none of her songs from taking chaces have been released here . its very strange.

i agree guys but i dont think albums will ever die out on cd....too many people liek to own the pysical release. Not jsut us. Loads of people do and thats whats happening really surprisingly with Vinyl at the moment. Uk bands are all skipping cd single releases and just releasing on download and 7" limited run vinyl. It makes it more special and something to collect.

 

I think people will feel the same about cd albums even when the single dies.

 

I love cd singles god damn it tho! always have done - coz albums are so mass produced arnt they, theres no joy in buying falling into you if you know 30 years later your still going to be able to buy it along with everyone else.....eyes on me.....i wanted it coz i love the song and want to support it and have it and lick it! hahaha. Its special and becomes eeeven more special coz it goes out of print.
