drama98nut Posted July 11, 2008 at 09:58 PM Posted July 11, 2008 at 09:58 PM Hi Everyone! I'm going to be visiting Montreal for the first time and seeing Celine the first night that she's there. However, while I'm seeing Celine's show and visiting Montreal, I also wanted to visit Charlemagne! Has anyone been there? I'm trying to find information on what the best way to get there is. Should I rent a car? Also, does anyone have any information or tips on what to see and where to go (Celine sites ha ha)? Any recommendations would be so helpful! Thanks so much, Sara... Quote
minniemare5 Posted July 12, 2008 at 03:25 AM Posted July 12, 2008 at 03:25 AM I went to Charlemagne about 5 or so years ago. I can't remember how I got there ( we drove, i just don't know exactly how to get there, my dad drove as I was 13 I think), but yes I would rent a car. I know you have to take the expressway...it's about 15-20 mins from downtown Montreal. In Charlemagne you can visit the Celine globe and her house which is on the main street. (sorry can't remember street names). I know you can also go to her school...I tried to find it, but couldn't. The city is very small so it shouldn't be hard to navigate. Hopefully you speak some french. I had awesome directions with a bunch of Celne sites and restaurants (her favourites) to go to that another fan sent me, but I unfortunately no longer have it. Quote

Yentl Anchel Posted July 13, 2008 at 01:35 PM Posted July 13, 2008 at 01:35 PM If you wanna visit Charlemange, you need to go there by car. The steet the house is located is called Rue Notre Dame. You can also visit Céline's prim. School there, the name of the school is: St jude and you can walk from the old house to the school in about 10 minutes. and is located at Rue Trépanier. The Céline globe is located at a parking close to a supermarket. When I and friends went to Canada, we even visited the church where Papa and Maman Dion were married. I went to Charlemagne about 5 or so years ago. I can't remember how I got there ( we drove, i just don't know exactly how to get there, my dad drove as I was 13 I think), but yes I would rent a car. drama98nut Posted July 13, 2008 at 08:28 PM Author Posted July 13, 2008 at 08:28 PM Thank you sooo much for your replies! They really do help a lot... Now I'm getting more and more excited! I also remember seeing this clip where Celine was in Charlemagne (or maybe it was in Montreal) and she went to this bakery and had her favorite pastry (I believe the same one she had for her wedding cake). Does anyone remember what that pastry was called or what that boulangerie was? I've been trying to find it through my Celine tapings, but I have so many lol. I know that probably sounds crazy, but it would be fun to go there... Plus, I love sweets =) Quote
Jacqui Posted July 13, 2008 at 10:53 PM Posted July 13, 2008 at 10:53 PM Her wedding cake was made of profiteroles. That's all I know about anything in this topic lol. Quote

drama98nut Posted July 14, 2008 at 05:55 PM Author Posted July 14, 2008 at 05:55 PM Yeah, it was from a T.V. special that Celine was being interviewed on. I can't remember what it was called though, but I do remember the owners of the bakery even had an 8x10 picture of Celine in their bakery on the wall there. So it must have been profiteroles that Celine was getting =) Quote

nic Posted July 14, 2008 at 10:35 PM Posted July 14, 2008 at 10:35 PM You don't have to hire a car. It's fairly easy to get there by bus. It leaves from the Radisson metro station (the second last stop on the green line going in the direction of Honoré Beaugrand). You take the service to Repentigny and then change there for Charlemagne. Here's a link to the timetables. http://www.gortc.info/horaire.html Quote

drama98nut Posted July 14, 2008 at 11:30 PM Author Posted July 14, 2008 at 11:30 PM I'm so excited! On another note, I had no idea Celine's Dad was buried in Charlemagne... Awww, it makes me so sad but it's touching to know they buried him there. Quote
Shesings2me Posted July 17, 2008 at 08:42 AM Posted July 17, 2008 at 08:42 AM (edited) So drama...when are you going to be in Montreal 'cause a few of us are planning a tour to some Celine sites and to Charlemagne. We'll be there at the end of August and are planning the trip on Aug 31. For your info, here are some pics of my recent trip to Charlemagne that I took with my niece. From Hwy 15 North to the Hwy 40 East Now we're on the Hwy 40 (or the Metropolitan) About to go over the Charles de Gaulle bridge over the Riviere des Prairies, Charlemagne just on the other side of the water from the island of Montreal ...And here we are... The famous Boul. Celine Dion The Celine Globe needs a bit of paint ...another angle ...and another angle ...and yet another angle Another street sign The Dion Family home In the backyard looking through the trees to the Riviere des Prairies From the front of the house on rue Notre Dame looking down the street to the Globe at boul Celine Dion The town church Town Hall More of rue Notre Dame By the river further down on rue Notre Dame (it was close to the Jean Baptiste holiday) One more famous street sign as we said goodbye Seeing the pics is just not enough to do this town justice. It's so pretty and quiet. I didn't check out the school but will do so next month. I hope you have the luck of meeting someone in town who helps give you a unique experience. It is definitely very exciting to be where it all started for our sweetheart! Edited July 17, 2008 at 08:47 AM by Shesings2me 1 Quote http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/5273/18771156.jpg

VintageCeline Posted July 17, 2008 at 01:59 PM Posted July 17, 2008 at 01:59 PM Wow! Its weird to see where she grew up, and the house she always talks about.
