godessceline Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Okay, so...maybe I sort of know what most of you will say considering I'm posting this in a Céline Dion forum. But I listen a lot to Marilyn Manson and I am really curious about what you all think about him? When I was about sixteen, seventeen (I'm almost 26 now) I used to be of the opinion that he was this really creepy, strange, rather effed up person and I believed all the stories about him ("he's had a rib removed, he's killed animals on stage, he worships the devil"...) in a heartbeat. Now...I am so in love. To me, he is such a huge inspiration and the most intelligent person I have ever come across. Ever. He has so much to say and he sparks my creativity immensely and I have such, SUCH respect for him. He is such an artist. It's really interesting to compare his on stage persona to the "him" you see in interviews: privately he's really quiet -almost shy- and well spoken and thinks a lot before he speaks. I'm trying really hard to not make this a convertion thread but it's hard, haha. Below are some interview clips that are really worth watching and that show a lot of what I've mentioned. I know there's quite a few but they are really, truly great. Now, then...bring it on! * First: Bowling For Columbine. A fantastic movie in its own right about the gun policy in AMerica, the Columbine shooting and Marilyn Manson being blamed for it. He usually just shoves his beliefs down his guests' throats and yells and calls them names but in this case he couldn't because Manson debated him with facts. And I think in some weird, twisted, latent way...O'Reilly respected him. Davey84 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 well I have seen him twice live! one time in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam and last time in the Brabant Hallen in Den Bosch Rick is a big fan of him and well... if he goes to céline with him, I have to go to MM with him! hahaha he puts on quite a show and you have to take everything with a grain of salt, but artistically I think he's very good! My fav song of him is Beautiful People and I also like the Pumpkin Song! Although in Gothenburg he was high as a kite. Still rocked that stage as hard as ever though. destin139 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 im not sure about him. true i havent heard many of his songs and have never seen him live and without seeing the interviews (thanks goddessceline!) i think my opinion of him would be completely negative. but i think its wrong that he was blamed for columbine. ok, so his appearance is a little different and his lyrics are full of expletives but the same could be said for many bands. i dont agree with everything he says or does and i think he looks weird but i guess having watched those interviews my opinion of him has changed. he certainly is very intelligent and articulate. some kids are gonna take his lyrics/appearance/actions the wrong way but there is an element of risk with everything - there are so many bands whose lyrics and image could be interpreted in the wrong way too. everyone has the freedom of speech and the freedom to dress like they want and thats just his way of expressing himself. i wouldnt call myself a fan at all and his appearance does creep me out somewhat but i guess i have to respect him for doing what he does - i dont like to follow the crowd either!!the last sentence of the first interview about columbine was so profound - it was incredible! I know, I got goosebumps the first time I heard him say it. It's totally alright that a lot of people don't like his music -or him- but there's no denying that he is extremely intelligent.
