Si J'etais Quelqu'un Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) I was watching TV the other day and I came across a made-for-tv movie about Celine's life, called Celine (of course). I watched it and was sort of weirded out. First of all, they spend more than half the time focusing on her career pre-Unison. When she finally hits in America, everything is just thrown off balance. Rene has a heart attack in 1992 and while he's recovering she's onstage singing Because You Loved Me, and then she has a breakdown in 1997 on a live interview because she can't reveal the name of the man in her life, and then they get married around that time, and then we just skip to Vegas where she has that RIDICULOUS platinum blond hair singing My Heart Will Go On and little Rene-Charles is an infant backstage (seriously, right behind the curtain). Now, Celine wasn't involved with the production of the film, which is made obvious by the fact that they have someone else's vocals doing her songs. And it's not nice at all. It comes off as very fake, and the vocals are just...they were probably thinking "This sounds just like her!" but no...it doesn't. Oh, AND the actress playing her doesn't even bother adopting a French-Canadian accent. Did anyone else see this travesty? I understand that if it were a theatrical release, it wouldn't be so cheap. So I'll judge it as a television biopic. I think the standard for the past decade was that brilliant Judy Garland one they did on ABC in 2001 or so: well-acted, accurate, smartly paced, and haunting. This...was not any of those things. By a long shot. Edited July 1, 2008 by Si J'etais Quelqu'un http://oi39.tinypic.com/dzjgva.jpg
Si J'etais Quelqu'un Posted July 1, 2008 Author Posted July 1, 2008 Ooops. I just realized this isn't the first thread about this. If someone could close it or merge it or something, that'd be great, thanks. http://oi39.tinypic.com/dzjgva.jpg
