Live arrangements... do you wish she'd switch it up a bit?

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day. He saw 'gurfren' when she performed at the O2 in London. He thought the show was fantastic BUT, as a huge Celine fan, he was disappointed that the arrangements of the songs are still the same ones, save for "I'm Alive". He says that he doesn't mind a few of the songs being presented in the "true to the album version" arrangement but wishes that she'd take a few chances. I found myself agreeing with him. I've seen Celine a few times but the song arrangements are getting a bit stale. I'd love some surprises... maybe doing songs in different styles like electro, or atmospheric electronic arrangements... big band or even lounge. We know that 'gurfren' can sing and that would show her versatility!

This is indeed a major disappointment. she explicitely promised new arrangements for the songs in 2007 for the 2008 tour. She did not deliver.

All she could is to cash in up to 4000€ per one single ticket. That much she delivered big big BIG time.

Bravo to our Céline Internationale.

o well the only song i wish she would change is LCMM to its orginal glory from the LTAL tour; and MHWGO sing live for once after all its her last song it should be live.

Don't really care too much about it... It was nice to see the new I'm Alive arrangement though :)

i think they should stick to the original version of LCMM, instead of celine singing some unnecessary adlibs that kills the song big time. so tired of "you gotta feel it right here, right there, u gotta feel it everywhere!"

Yes, it would definitely be nice to hear some new arrangements...... Would love to hear her do something different with hits like "To Love You More" and "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."

I kinda love the way she's singing "Alone" lately though. There are a bunch of recent bootlegs up on the Multimedia section and she's making subtle changes to her vocalizations which are amazing. She totally hits "the note" at the start of the second chorus and has added a riff to it. I wish she had recorded it like that in the studio. It's incredible.

Yes and no...I mean I'm glad to be seeing her as many times as I am...but there is a couple of things I would change, but I don't complain to much about her...I mean whatever is going to be is going to be...can't change anything :)

Well, the thing she should change...is Mego. This man has litteraly killed most of her beautiful songs with live arrangements that make them sounding horrible. But I appreciate it very much when he manages to make songs sound exactly like on the album, this is a kind of performance for some of them. But well, it would be so nice to hear some new stuff, to "play" with songs that we all know...

I always considered it a bit weird that her live songs were 100% identical to the studio versions. I don't mean her singing and performing because at least that is always unique and superb, but the arrangements of the songs. What especially bugged me was that the instrumental solos were also the same as on the album. I mean, give some freedom to the musicians and let them improvise a bit.

I also had hopes up, when it was mentioned that for the TC tour the old songs would be rearranged. But what happened to that???? It would be so awesome to hear those older songs in edgier "clothing"! Wasn't TC itself about being edgier? I'd be thrilled to hear MHWGO for example as a rock song with extra guitar parts thrown in. The same goes for the rest of the songs... It's just a thought. Or maybe a dream...

Yeah I do. I love her, love seeing her live. But new renditions of some of the standards would be awesome. Better yet Celine could ditch the usual ones (LCMM, IA, BYLM for starters) and sing songs like That's the Way It Is, ANDHC and even include again TFTEISYF.

I couldn't agree more... this has to the the number one disappointing thing from this tour. Had she kept the promise of refreshed arrangements, this tour would have kicked some major booty...

I've said it before, and agree with others who have said it, but Mr. Mego gives the same old, lackluster live arrangements for the same old live numbers that are being performed... this pseudo-grunge feel with too much electric guitar from the Falling Into You tour has made it's way from the 90's, into Vegas, and now on this tour.

Unless your musical director is more "of the moment" or younger, or has newer influences, the live sound of your band will never change. Mego needs some updating. Either get him an assistant who is willing to push the envelope a little more or get a new musical director all-together.

This is the reason why I have not purchased tickets to ANY show for this tour. There is no need for me to pay that much money to hear music that I've been hearing for over 10 years... I am a die-hard fan and spread the word of our songstress every chance I get, but I will not spend my money on something that I can watch on youtube or wait for a DVD to see.

Not only would the SOUND of her music be updated, but the songs that she's signing would change, too. I am over hearing the SAME SONGS with the SAME SOUND from 1996. Celine has recorded too many good songs, that could be freakin' awesome live, to over look them, for the same crap that the band has been doing for song. Don't the musicians also get tired of the same stuff year after year?!

There have only been a few times in her recent catalogue of live performances that have been "updated", or darn, even "different". LOL I welcome change to the musical direction of Celine's band; it would keep me engaged as a wanting more. How many bootlegs of the SAME stuff do we need on youtube? It's almost embarrassing. Everyone posts MP3's or videos, but they all sound the EXACT same. The only interesting vids are when she messes up on a lyric or something, or someone showed us someone new on the stage, etc.

This topic really grinds my gears... LOL I really really wish there were a way that we could let SOMEONE know this... I'm not asking for a NEW SOUND, but darn, wasn't Taking Chances supposed to be something fresher for Celine? Now the new songs that she's doing from the album sound like they were recorded in 1998... Taking Chances? More like "Taking Money"

I agree with you! The only reason Celine still sings those old songs is because they want non-fans to see the show! I mean, if I wasn't her fan, I'd really like to listen at least MHWGO!

But for me, enough. I looove The Power Of Love and To Love You More, but, come on, aren't they [the team] tired of them! OMG, Celine must have sung LCMM now more than 10.000 times! Awww :pinch:

As suggested in another topic, it would be great once in a while to hear Celine perform songs from Unison, or never performed ones like If Walls Could Talk, or any of the rares one. Please Celine, TAKE CHANCES!

Celine *defanitly* needs to spice things up with her arrangements with live performances. She should do what Madonna did, and have a Re-Invention tour, where she sings all of her old hits, and some of her lesser known songs, with new arrangements(My Heart Will Go On as a rock song, for example). That would defanitly be a tour worth going to. Quite honestly, it's not worth going to a Celine tour over and over again if it's the exact same arrangements over and over(unless it's your first time seeing her live, of course). It gets boring after a while. Also, it needs to be completly LIVE. No remixed versions of the tracks she uses to lip her biggest hits. :P

I haven't seen her live but what I have seen of her live, I like. I think that she does an awesome job at what she does and the song selection. Lots of them are classics but I do wish that she would include That's the Way It Is. It's one of my favs along with The Reason I Go On and Map to My Heart.

One of the things that I think would be at least "interesting" to hear would be a version of "My Heart Will Go On" with some electronic flourishes or a more stripped down version of "The Power of Love".

It is indeed. The only songs which got some sort of remake are I'm Alive, Taking Chances and Shadow Of Love (which got the worst possible remake ever, slowed down, what could had been a highlight on the set list became a major bummer). Besides these are all new songs with no particular need of new arrengements (even though the IA is fairly nice actually). That doesn't go for the oldies which REALLY need, and has been needing for a long time a new approach to them. It's still a mistery Céline still doesn't puke on them.

Even though we were promised new arrengements on the oldies, I didn't get my hopes up coz we know the story by now a LOT of talk about almost nothing... and what do you know, this time it was actually about NOTHING.

I can definitely see both sides of the spectrum here. I know that most of us want to see Celine change up her arrangements because we all have every live performance that you could possibly get from her just about, so we've seen and heard these songs 18 gajillion times. Obviously there are tons and tons of songs we'd die to hear live because we're sick of the same old TPOL, TLYM, BYLM, MHWGO, IACBTM.

There are also a ton of fans who don't actually belong to a Celine Dion message board and share every performance she's ever done. There are millions of people who love Celine yet do not follow her every breath so the classic songs they love her to sing would not sound pleasant in some sort of remix style. For instance, I'm sure songs like SOL and FA are not going over well with her older crowd. If Celine did arrangements like the new one for IA on a lot of her older songs, or sang songs that the general public haven't heard from her previous albums I can't imagine it would be a successful tour. Though I'm sure people just buy tickets based on seeing Celine Dion, they would probably be upset if she changed a lot of the classic songs.

Well I aint talking about a techno version of TPOL with a porn movie on the big screens. I am just sayng that a new approach ould do, new instruments, different way of singing it. And to be frank you really have to be a die hard fan to notice that something is not sounding like the album version, so I don't agree with your theory.

Gee Fred, it's like you read my mind with the whole porn movie on the screen! ;) I don't even agree with my theory, but it's always a possibility. I'm with everyone else, I would very much love some changes to her songs! But if it's as subtle as a few new instruments are you even going to notice the changes? And she can't change her singing style for songs she lip syncs anyway :P New versions of canned songs would be great though!

Yeah I agree. She's been doing the songs the same way for years, perhaps with the exception of I'm Alive on the tour. Another thing that bugs me would be the way she uses the same speech for every single concert on tour such as for the Queen medley or My Love. It does seem a little rehearsed.
Posted
I hear ya with the speeches! When you watch a concert from the past, like Live in Memphis, you can notice the difference in her personality nowadays! She always acts kind of somber, or subdued. She used to get really excited, but now she talks very slow and low. And its like her English is getting worse by the year. I don't know, she just seems pretty burned out, which I wouldn't blame her for a single bit!

I get what you mean about the speeches being pretty much the same in every concert...when did that start, in vegas maybe? I don't think she's "always" subdued though! She still has her random hyper moments sometimes, in interviews and stuff... Maybe she just "matured" from "being a Mommy" LOL.
