Great find! Did you see the zipper on the Givenchy dress? It's like one of her costumes - a wetsuit zipper.

Thank you! Can you believe it only took me 5 minutes to find that ring, and several hours to find that dress?! "Oh, never noticed that ring before. Looks like feathers, must be a bird. What kind of bird has pointy ears like that? Probably an owl. Let's google 'diamond ring owl'. Oh, there it is, great". Why isn't it always that logical and easy?!

Yeah I saw that zipper and the seamstress in me cringed LOL

That is SOOOO funny. I have seen the ring many times before, both on her in the Paris pictures and all over the place when searching for other jewelry, but I never made the connection. Good for you to realize they were wings!

THE ORIGIN ASSURED PROGRAMME

In today’s global markets consumers are increasingly demanding information about the products they are buying. They expect information on where products are sourced, openness and transparency in the way they are produced and assurance on the humane treatment of animals.

The Origin Assured programme is a demonstration of the fur industry’s commitment to these same principles.

Possibly the single most important initiative, ever to emerge from the fur industry, the programme gives assurance that the fur in a garment or fur product that bears an OA™ mark, originates from a country where national or local regulations or standards governing fur production are in force.

Only fur from approved species, sourced from approved countries, which is sold through participating auction houses, is entitled to carry the OA™ mark.

The programme was publicly launched at the International Herald Tribune’s Supreme Luxury conference in Moscow in November 2007 and has been enthusiastically embraced by the fur trade, with the number of approved retail

outlets growing continuously.

_

A country must have national or local regulations or standards governing fur production in force before it can become approved for OA™ fur.

The majority of the world's fur is sold through international auction houses. Since the programme was first introduced to the fur trade in December 2006, the international auction houses that are partners in the OA™ programme have been responsible for sorting OA™ fur, ensuring invoices clearly identify that it is OA™ and for distributing OA™ labels. At this stage only OA™ fur sold through participating auction houses can attract the OA™ mark. The participation of other auction houses is in the pipeline and, in time it is anticipated that other distribution sources will be able to join the programme.

Buyers of OA™ skins from these auction houses are entitled to ask for and receive OA™ labels (or auction house brand labels with the OA™ integrated into the labels, if preferred). The OA™ labels and invoices accompany each other through the supply chain to the retailer. A garment or fur product can only be sold with an OA™ label if the fur is 100% OA™ fur.

The OA™ supply chain is audited and monitored by an independent agency to ensure compliance.

The OA™ mark thus enables consumers, designers and retailers to make informed choices with confidence.

_

To become OA™ approved, a country must have regulations or standards governing fur production in force. Currently the standards are:

FOR FARMED FUR

In Europe, any EU country as it is bound by EU animal welfare and slaughter directives; any European country which is implementing the Council of Europe recommendation specifically concerning fur animals via national legislation or a code of practice. In addition, the same EU environmental laws that apply to all EU agricultural sectors also cover fur farming. For example, the Water Framework Directive is also linked to farming.

In the USA, fur farmers are regulated by their state department of agriculture and must operate under federal environmental standards, such as the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. Fur farmers have also developed a comprehensive set of their own standards, in consultation with veterinarians and animal scientists, to ensure the highest quality of animal husbandry. These standards are administered by Fur Commission USA, which is also responsible for ensuring they are revised and updated whenever required by current knowledge of animal care and farm management techniques.

In Canada, codes of practice are in place, which were developed with the federal Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies.

In Namibia, Karakul producers operate under a Code of Practice governing the Care and Handling of Karakul Sheep. The code was prepared with the assistance of the Namibian Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry and the European Union; it has been approved by the Veterinary Authority of Namibia, which is a member of the world animal health organisation (OIE) and it is implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry.

Any country that has ratified and is implementing the Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards (AIHTS) or is implementing similar standards to the AIHTS for wild fur production. These aim to ensure that only the most humane trapping methods are used and that improvement continues to be made in trapping, based on the latest available scientific research.

Seals: The main seal producing countries are Canada, Greenland and Norway, where the Seal hunt is supported by regulations, monitoring and enforcement.

FICA (Fur Information Council of America)

The production of farmed and wild furs in the US is regulated by state and federal government authorities, and by industry codes of practice in conjunction with scientific advice from a panel of highly respected veterinary scientists.

In common with all livestock, domesticated furbearers such as farm-raised mink and fox come under the jurisdiction of state departments of agriculture. Meanwhile, any furbearing animals taken from the wild, for any reason, come under the jurisdiction of state departments of natural resources or state fish and wildlife agencies.

In the animal welfare department, state statutes cover everything from mistreatment and neglect, to intentional cruelty, and reports are investigated by the appropriate local and/or state agency, oftentimes both. Under current anti-cruelty statutes, anyone who mistreats an animal faces investigation, prosecution, fines, jail time and even the loss of his animals.

_

The international fur trade does not trade in endangered species and all furs used by the trade are abundant.

_

The respect the farmer has for his animals and land is well documented and today’s farm-raised furbearers are among the best cared-for livestock. Good nutrition, comfortable housing and prompt veterinary care have resulted in domestic animals very well suited to the farm environment. Only the healthiest and best cared for animals produce the finest pelts, and it is precise attention to animal care and strict adherence to animal husbandry guidelines and recommendations that enable farmers to produce the quality fur that is demanded in today’s marketplace

We have designers like J Mendel, Michael Kors, Oscar De La Renta, Alberta Feretti, Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Derek Lam, Carolina Herrera, Rodarte and many many more. These are all names you'll recognize if you've been following this thread.

Remember that the items found here comes from Celine's closet. They're high end items from the world's top fashion houses, they're not gonna use anything but the finest fur, and for a fur to be top quality the animal has to be cared for the right way. Yes there's animal cruelty in the fur industry, but not on the level we are dealing with here. By choosing to buy quality fur Celine is supporting the humane part of the industry, not the shady and cruel one. There are laws and regulations to follow, try finding one of those that allows mistreatment of animals.

I wish people were more aware of this, because the disappointment in, and bashing of, Celine's choice to wear fur is unreasonable IMO. I personally cannot afford this level of quality, and refuse to get a cheaper substitute, because that would be irresponsible. And so I don't wear fur, period. It's them the activists should target, not bash and destroy property of those who care for animal welfare. Just because they get more publicity that way? Give me a break...

I never said it was an unwelcomed subject, this is a forum and we all have a right to express our opinion, but it has been discussed before and it never ends pretty

I fully respect those who believe that it, in today's society, is no longer necessary to consume meat and other animal products. However, it is my personal opinion that we cannot rely on the wildlife predators/consumers in the food chain to control a possible overpopulation among animals, not in developed countries anyway. So it's my belief that humane slaughtering of cattle etc is part of preserving a balanced ecosystem (and yes, there is such a thing as humane slaughter). There's a law in the US called Humane slaughter act (or Humane Methods of Livestock Slaughter Act), and there's a similar, if not almost identical, law in Sweden. Animals are not to be slaughtered before they have been stunned (through electrictrocution for example) into unconsciousness to ensure a quick and painless death. This is obviously not the same thing as chopping of the head of a non sedated animal, that is inhumane.

By doing this we achieve that balanced ecosystem (endangered species not included since legal hunting of those is prohibited), and not to utilize its meat and leather/fur would be a waste considering that faux fur, as opposed to real fur, is a synthetic fiber and therefor contributes to pollution (how's that for "eco-friendly"? )

I can't help thinking of that Versace dress Celine wore for the TC photoshoot, it looks very similar to this Versace worn by Nicole Kidman tonight at the Golden Globes

It also reminds me to the J Mendel dress Celine wore at the 2007 Oscars
