i know this is old & all but i was just curious. Is Celine wearing it backwards?

I don't think she is, her's has a piece of material that hooks in the front the runway version doesn't. the runway one looks like it either doesn't have one or hooks in the back. Edited by Belle Céline

I was curious if Frida or someone else could post, 3 or 5 of the most expensive items we have found. Either clothes or jewelery. I am just curious what the most expensive items you guys have found are.

These definitely belong to the top 5, but both were borrowed I believe...

Yeah the Titanic necklace was borrowed but Rene later bought it for Celine and ( I think ) they've loaned it to a musuem around cornwall/devon here in the UK.

Well, like Darren, I once read on Wikipedia (although not the most reliable of sources sometimes) that the necklace was bought at auction by Rene and later donated to the Cornish Maritime Museum in the UK. However, Wiki now says it belongs to a wealthy client of Asprey's and they bought it at auction on the condition that Celine could wear it to the Academy Awards - so not sure what version is the correct one. I have a vague recollection of her saying or perhaps a magazine/book saying that she couldn't wear it because it was too valuable so it just sat in storage as she was afraid to take it out - not sure if that is accurate but it's in the pack of my head...? :hmm:

Last year I rewrote the wiki article. I did a huge amount of research on the necklace for a university paper and went through tons different newspaper and magazine articles from the time via my school's library references. I also contacted a number of people (including both Asprey and the Cornish Maritime Museum). You can see the sources I used at the bottom of the wiki page. Many of my sources weren't listed because they just verified information I already had. I found sufficient conformation through my sources that the "Rene buying the necklace" story is totally fabricated. Celine is not quoted referring to her ownership of the necklace (or even referring to the necklace) in any printed media. As almost every single article said something contradictory to another, and almost every photo caption I could find seemed to be totally made-up, I pieced together a storyline based on similarities between the articles and my responses from Asprey and the museum. After a lot of detective work, this is what I pieced together:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_of_the_Ocean

London based jewelers Asprey & Garrard created the necklace used during the filming with a blue cubic zirconium set in white gold. The cost of the necklace was approximately $10,000. Today, it resides in Twentieth Century Fox's archives.[2] They were also commissioned during the release in 1997 to make a real "Heart of the Ocean" necklace using the original design. The result was a platinum-set, 170 carat heart-shaped Ceylon sapphire surrounded by a row of 65 round diamonds, totaling 36 carats. The necklace was valued at $3.5 million. It was sold at a benefit auction for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund and Southern California's Aid For AIDS for $2.2 million, with the condition that Celine Dion would wear it to the 1998 Academy Awards ceremony. She sang the film's theme song "My Heart Will Go On." [3] The necklace now belongs to the daughter of a wealthy Asprey client.[4]

During the same period, jeweler Harry Winston used a 15 carat blue diamond in his interpretation of the "Heart of the Ocean" necklace. This $20 million necklace was worn by Gloria Stuart to the 1998 Academy Awards.[5]

Less expensive reproductions have also been available since the release of the film. Nouveau Treasures makes reproductions consisting of 1½" or 1" heart-cut blue cubic zirconia. Price Range $249–299.[6]

The J Peterman Company made reproductions in 1997 when the film was released. Their necklace consisted of 137 Austrian crystals and a detachable, inauthentic "blue diamond" pendant packaged in a navy blue, hinged presentation box.[7] Although no longer available at retail, this necklace can often be found on eBay.

Oh, and I did read conflicting articles about the Cornish museum's display of the necklace. They verified to me that they have never owned or displayed either of the Asprey necklaces. Their display is another reproduction.

I heard that Celine didn't want to buy it because, if she wore it ones she would not wear it again. I think it was in the Rosie interview

Thank you for changing my life!
