search button wont search!

Ok,i have had this problem for some time now,and could do with a little help(or straight jacket,which ever comes first! )

I hate repeat topics the same as everyone else,and when one springs up it is closed down with the dreaded words " repeat topic,closed,please use search". I have been trying to do just that for ages (search)BUT most of the time it just states there is an error,i have not used enough letters in my search!?? for example i want to check if a couple of youtube videos have been posted.The topic has way to many pages for me to trawl through to check if they are there so i use the genius that is the 'SEARCH' button.One of the videos is Celine and Dan Hill singing can't we try,so I try to search just this(can't we try).But all i get is error?

How do i search for titles,words,etc that have 3 or less letters?? ahhhhhhhhh!!

Search won't work for word with less than 4 letters, also won't work on common words like "hello, nice...." Cause those words would return way too many useless results. So MYSQL disabled those words. Search with the right word would be a good start.

Thanks for the reply but i understand all of that,my point was how do i avoid posting things like my example(can't we try you tube video)twice if i can't search for them?

We have a topic for all youtube videos you want to share. We prefer all youtube links in one topic instead of create new topics for random videos on youtube.

Ok im really not trying to be rude here as i know you are trying to help me,but i did already state that i knew there was this youtube topic already,and this is where i want to add these videos i keep on about

what i am trying to find out is how to search this youtube topic we are talking about for the videos i want to add(can't we try,etc),so i do not repost already posted videos,pheeeew

i think i gather from this topic that i can only search for words with 4 or more letters and not a common word(which i have no idea why as i do not want to search one word but a whole title,which still does not work!) anyways,thankyou for your time in replying but i think i will just go ahead and post my videos and hope for the best

Sorry that I didn't read everything you posted carefully. But it's just impossible to search something like "can't we try" "all by myself", "you and i".

There is a search form on the bottom left of each topic. For a search containing 3 letter words or a phrase use the + sign.

 

For example:

 

can+try+dan+hill

 

It will search for posts containing ALL the words (yes, even can't ). That's what I do sometimes and it works. Give it a try.

I ran into this problem before too when looking up topics for Eyes On Me, and even with the + in between the words I kept getting the message that the words were to short, so I just gave up.

 

On a different note regarding Search feature, can you just search by Topic Title only. for example, I just want to see all threads created regarding a certain topic, not necessarily when that keyword was mentioned in another thread in passing. Hopefully that makes sense.

Just tick the box that says search topic titles. Also, I found another way to enhance your searches. If you want to search for an exact phrase, use the quotation marks. For example:

 

"celine rocks"

 

You can also combine the asterisks and plus signs in the search query. For example:

 

+maria* +sing*

 

will return posts that contain BOTH words beginning with mar and sing.

 

So if a post contains mariah sing or maria singing, it will show up in the results. The asterisks means match anything after the letter.
