Well at least a Celine Dion song on the show (already with the top 12), finally! Haha just hearing a Celine song on AI makes me wanna vote for him/her no matter who s/he is hahaha.. too bad we're not in America..

Personally, I thought it was the best performance of the night. Of course no one will ever compare to Celine's version but I'm glad to see him take the challenge. Good job!

Anthony Fedorov, 19, Trevose, Pa.: What does it say about Fedorov that he not only chose to sing Celine Dion's "I Surrender," but he said he had been wanting to sing that song for weeks? It might be better not to even think about it. The vocals were OK, though Randy Jackson accurately pointed out that the high notes sounded a lot better than the low ones.

Grade: B-

Fun fact: Fedorov's parents have a tape of him singing when he was about a year and a half old. Could that be a bonus track on his first CD?

The judges: "I personally hated it. But a large part of this competition is picking songs that are appealing to people who like you, and you did that tonight." – Simon Cowell.

Stay or go: Do people really expect or want Fedorov to cover Celine Dion ballads? Fedorov is always tough to predict – like Scott Savol, he survives each week in spite of lukewarm reviews from the judges. There was nothing objectionable about his performance this time around, but he's still far from safe.

Yeah it's the first time a guy has performed a Céline song, at least a finalist. I'm not sure if he is a fan, but if he was a REAL fan he would be smart enough not to sing a Céline song!! Maybe I'm being too harsh, but it was just wrong!! However I did think Kelly and Diana did well, because they brought the song to their level!

I'm not an Anthony fan... ( I don't have any favs this season ) but he did an amazing job!!

I think he did ok...it was really wierd to hear a guy sing that song. I LOVED when Kelly Clarkson sang it on that show a few years ago. My friend hosts a morning radio show here, and this morning i told her all about it and they talked about it and mentioned Celine alot.

It seems everyone has something to say about "American Idol," and MTVNews.com is no different. Here's the latest edition of our weekly performance-night roundup:

 

April 26 - Theme: The 2000s

 

Surprise performance: 

 

When Ryan Seacrest teased that Anthony was singing a Celine Dion song, America sighed a collective "oh no." But what do you know — he pulled it off. And with that sentimental home segment before, how do you not vote for this kid?

 

Fashion hits and misses: Finally Carrie lost the '80s hair and looked like a cute country girl again. Bo also played up his image (Southern rocker dude) and pulled it off, despite Simon's opinion on the sunglasses. Anthony dressed up in a suit for his idol, Clay Aiken, who was in the house. Really the only misses were those leather straps flinging all over while Constantine sang.

 

Judging the judges: Randy was unusually harsh on Carrie, Constantine and Scott, but dead-on for the most part. That meant Paula (who usually just rewords Randy's critiques) had a few rare negative things to say. Simon, as usual, was the most insightful, especially with Constantine, whom he said was better suited to crooning vocals.

 

Best audience sign: Moms for Rockers. Did you catch the look of disappointment on Heather Locklear's face when her daughter said her favorite was Anthony (even though she was whispering "Constantine")? She's definitely a mom for rockers.

 

Who will go: You know how at every party there's someone there who really shouldn't be, but he just won't leave? Sorry Scott.

 

Who needs to step it up: Constantine should make his first trip to the bottom three for his rendition of Nickelback's "How You Remind Me." He's a performer, but the vocals were off.

 

Who is the one to beat: At this point, Bo's stolen back all the momentum from Carrie. A Bo vs. Anthony finale is starting to look like a possibility.

I definitely think that Anthony Fedorov is stealing America's hearts, but mine still belongs to Bo. He is the best by far. It will come down to a contest between Carrie and Bo, and Bo will ultimately win.

It has surprised me that Scott has stuck around so long. At this stage of the competition, anything can happen. Each finalist better give their all each time they perform. Anthony could be next to go, although he has been impressive lately.

Thanks Vic for the video. I haven't watch AI since the first season with Kelly Clarkson winning,but you have to give this guy credit for singing I Surrender. It is a difficult song to sing and ONLY Céline can sing it with the strength that it requires. Simon was classic Simon as always Good to hear a Celine Dion song used, finally w/out negative remarks.

Anthony said he is a fan of Celine's which is great to hear and he loves the song. How true, it is a beautiful song

I agree with you. I think Kelly over screamed the notes. although her performance is not too bad. and they both only sang half of I surrender, not the full song.

I didn't like Kelly's rendition of this song. I think Anthony's one is much better than I expected reading some comments on the web.
