Celine mentioned today on 'The View'

The topic was Hugh Hefner saying he would allow Miley Cyrus to pose in Playboy when she turns 18. The topic then moved on to older men who watch little girls grow up from a very young age then marry them once the girl is legally old enough. Celine and Rene were the couple they mentioned. They mentioned that some see this as a form of pedophilia (which to an extent, I can see).

 

So, I find Celine and Rene's story EXTREMELY romantic but I feel like I know them so I'm biased. I thought this would be neat to discuss... What does everyone else think?

I think that if both parties involved have mutual feelings, then its fine. AS LONG AS they are of age when they start "seeing" each other. The "younger" person involved should be careful, but I actually have a couple of friends who married MUCH older men than they, and they are just as happy as Celine and Rene...so it just all depends on what kind of situation it is, I suppose.

I don't really care about the situation, but I do wonder how Rene could possibly want to make love to a woman that he's known since she was a child. I just think that would be so weird! Almost like it was his child or something. It seems to work just fine for them, but in some cases it could probably be considered as wrong. I'll never understand that much of an age difference. 7 years is probably as far up as I could go past my own, let alone 26! That would be me dating a 52 year old! EWWW!

but i guess that was never an issue to them. i would prefer seeing a may-december affair, than seeing a both 25 years old couple, and file a divorce after a month of their marriage.

I was 19 when I met my 35 year old partner - we've been together 8 years now.....

 

Who gives a stuff how much older Rene is than Celine - she trusted him to look after her and her career when she was younger and now trusts him to look after her and her heart now she is older. I can see how mutual admiration and respect can turn into love - i'm much happier seeing Celine and Rene happy together despite the age gap - there is never any scandal about them, she's clearly mad about him still. I can't accept that there were smacks of paedophilia in the infancy of their relationship, I imagine that Rene saw the beautiful woman that she turned into and was attracted by Celine as a woman, never as Celine as a girl. They work though, don't they. Bloody good luck to them and Rene-Charles.

Patrick is the one that is Celine's age. Anne-Marie was born in 1977, and is the only girl.

I don't think Celine's story is anything like Woody Allen's. Celine had genuine feelings for Rene and was madly in love with him...it's not like he pushed her into marrying him like Joy implied.

That's actually the problem! We can't be sure if he was at first attracted by Celine as girl or as a woman and we'll probably never know the real truth and all the details about the beginning of their relation.

well i don't think there is any problem there. Nothing happened well until she was older and new what she was doing. I don't understand whats wrong they are in love. they always have loved each other but the love just grew and they found each other in a romantic love! that will last forever.

 

As for him being so much older...... i personaly have no problem with it at ALL! and to that i can only say one thing.........................

I think the thoughts expressed on the view are completely valid. We all must hold some kind of bias because we are Celine fans and we know how beautiful the love story between Celine and Rene is. Had we not have known them as the fans we are I think that of course we would see it differently. Twenty-Six years her senior is a huge age difference but I don't think that that matters... what does matter is the point at which Rene did start having feelings for Celine and I don't think we'll ever know the truth there. If he had feelings for her as a child then it's a totally different story...

I can understand that some non-fans who don't know the whole story think the age difference is weird... but to say it's a form of pedophilia, is just wrong! If they only knew the story... To quote our dear Céline, "Love has no age."

I saw this live and I had Celine and Rene in mind when they were talking about it, and then, ha, Joy mentions them.

 

Honestly though...love is love. It's as simple as that. People shouldn't care who you fall in love with.

I too was 19 when I met my partner who was 32. We are still together 14 years later. I think I was possibly more mature than he was when we met! lol!

 

Celine was a little girl when they first met and she was looked after by both Rene and his wife at that time. Like most girls do, when she got to her late teens she changed quite dramatically. All of a sudden she was a long legged, graceful, and attractive young woman. Rene was an intelligent, sophistocated and smart older man. (who had recently got divorced) The age difference has nothing to do with it. I would imagine Celine suddenly noticed that she was working with a respected and kind gentleman and fell in love with him at that time. Rene would have seen that Celine was now gorgeous, but I imagine he would never dream she would be interested in him. Until that fateful night!

 

To me, this relationship seems very natural. There are millions of people on this planet who have age gap relationships that work very well. I can't see what the fuss is.

No, they weren't negative. Just saying it is sometimes seen as 'wierd' or 'gross' for a man to watch a young girl grow up, be a father figure, then marry them. Celine and Rene and Hugh Hefner and his girls were the couples they highlighted.

 

BTW.. Im 28 and my partner is 43 ..

I personally think Celine and Rene are great together. The love they have for each other is evident in the way they act around each other and the way they look at each other. Celine looked up to and admired Rene for years and he did a great job of looking out for her. Its no wonder they fell in love, they are a great couple and unlike so many married couples, they have stood by each other and have stood the test of time. That can only mean true love.
