Taking Chances Sign in Australian Music Store

Hi Everybody,

I just thought I'd share what I saw today in an Australian music store. I went into buy the special edition of A New Day Has Come CD, there is a shelf at eye-level which shows all the artists of that sections latest album releases. Under each CD there were hand-written signs I presume made by the store, displaying the name with a bit of a statement about the album and the price. As I was looking at these signs I saw positive statements for all the artists but Celine's, for example I think Miley Cyrus' had "the teen taking the world by storm" (stuff like that) and this is how Celine's looked... "Celine Dion... Taking Chances? NOT LIKELY" I was shocked to be honest... A music store openly dissing an album I know she's not everybody's "cup of tea" but really I thought that was a little low, are they even allowed to do this?

the store manager is OBVIOUSLY a mariah fan, what a$$e$ they are!!!!! , well if it helps all the anger people might be feeling, today i went to a best buy electronics store and there was only 1 copy of taking chances left!!! i was so happy, mostly because to the right i saw shelves upon shelves of mariahs e=mc2 even scattered on the floor lol, that made my day and probably my week! The fact that a store manager allowed such a thing is so incredibly stupid. Not because of the detest for Celine, but on a pure business level. If a sign promoting an album is stating the albums is horrible, who would buy it? They wouldn't (at least not many). So if anything the manager has simply cost his/her store more sales, inturn means less revenue. Some people simply do not think with their heads. Moron.

Right, Heaven forbid someone has their own opinion and expressed it, leaving it up to the customer to make up their own mind. How dare they insult the Goddess!!!

 

It's not like the sign said, "This album is a piece of s***, don't buy it!" If people really want the album, that sign wouldn't stop them from buying it.

 

But it is nice to see so many people would rip the sign down and censor someone else because they didn't agree with what it said.

 

I think the sign is funny.

In my post I said that it was a stupid decision on the store manager's part to allow such a thing, not because of the employees' opinions of the album, but because of a blatant advertisement denouncing an album as good. This inturn will not help push sales of another album to be sold in that manager's store.

 

I was not refering to the die-hard Celine fan's who will buy the album nonetheless. I was refering to the casual, undecided, or other type of person who wouldn't know if they should "waste" their well-earned money on album by an artist they are "middle-of-the-road" on.

 

Try to look at this at a business standpoint and not a personal one.

Sorry. I was giving the average consumer enough credit to decide for themselves whether or not they wanted to purchase something.

I wish I could agree with you, but the sad thing is that the majority of people these days are sheep. They follow the masses. If a sign states or implies that an album is bad they'll pass on it because it's not "cool" or "in." It's simple (or not so simple) social psychology.

I agree with you Joe completely, even though it's a very simple issue we're talking about the fact that it's called Taking Chances, allowed some other non-Celine fans to consider purchasing the album bearing in mind that they might find something new, different and exciting, the sign saying not likely just reassures those easily persuaded people to think "that's just what I expected another 'typical' Celine album, why would I waste my money". Whether or not we're giving the average consumer credit about deciding for themselves, I definitely do not give credit to the store that made the sign... it's just plain stupid, for whichever artist they choose to do this to, not just Celine, it's childish...

wait a minute. is this for real? i mean, c'mon, it's their loss if the cd will only gather dusts and everyone will ignore it and won't even bother to touch the cd. they are of course selling it and what for if they will put such "off" sign to the album? didn't they also pay for the cds they're selling? i don't get the point of the situation. here in the philippines (i don't know if this is the official tag for the album's promo), the phrase they are using is there's the celine you know, and the celine you are about to discover... TAKING CHANCES in the posters. is the sign handwritten? if it is, there's really nothing to talk about. i can put my own sign to any cds i will see and put some rude things in it for the people to escape the cd, anytime. Why wouldn't they be allowed to display whatever signage they want in their own store?

 

Do they generally have a mix of positive and negative comments on various discs, or were they just singling out Celine with those kinds of comments? If they were picking on Celine alone, I would have made your opinion known to the management and told them that you won't shop in a music store where your tastes are singled out for ridicule.

 

That's your right as a consumer, and it would be foolish of them to continue to offend their customers.

 

I definitely wouldn't recommend following the advice of some people here to vandalize their display. That would only put you in the wrong.
