Black Kitten Posted April 27, 2008 at 01:39 PM Posted April 27, 2008 at 01:39 PM (edited) with all honesty, this is the only thing that makes her less of a great artist, really. i am really tired of hearing her critics bashing her about distancing herself in the whole process of making her albums. i mean, is she afraid of giving her ideas and getting involved on what direction they are going to take for her projects? it's sometimes bothering and it makes her albums unpersonal and uninspired because she keeps on focusing only on her singing? PS: admin and moderators, feel free to close this if it's already discussed here. i searched before i openned this topic, but i didn't see any topic with this subject. thank you! CyberCat Posted April 27, 2008 at 02:21 PM Posted April 27, 2008 at 02:21 PM Maybe for the same reasons that were revealed in the recording session of "My Love" with Linda Perry.I think she is getting into really controlling her life now, but last year's experience with Linda was absolutely necessary for this. First I was very shocked when I saw that session, but I think at the end the whole experience gave something extra to Celine, though the process was painful. So, who knows. She is definitely changing, and maybe she will return after the second baby break as a producer also. Just give her time. Quote

CelineFanInSoCal Posted April 27, 2008 at 05:37 PM Posted April 27, 2008 at 05:37 PM Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYkKAi_wCWc Linda wrote 'My Love' for Celine and explains why during the studio sessions. As for Celine not writing or producing... She's a singer. A vocal entertainer. A voice that will be remembered forever, and is one of the most recognizable sounds in our lifetime. Be excited that we're living during the reign of her voice. That being said, she may write a few lines here and there, or a little poem or love note, and may even hum a tune or something. We can all remember back to the TAST TV special countdown special on VH1 those many years ago when Celine told the story of "writing" Don't Save It All For Christmas Day. Let's also remember the COUNTLESS interviews where Celine publicly admits that she's the singer, others write the material she records and others produce it. She thanks those folks for their talent and for thinking of her when they send songs her way. She's not a musical magician or someone who's sitting for hours on end in the studio trying to ham out the last few lyrics of a song or figure what beat goes best with what tune. I just think of the evolution of her career, and no where do I really see any point where it could have fit in to the rest of her routine, and especially now, considering what we all to be the reasons why she's "cutting corners" [family life, son, marriage, thoughts of another child, etc.], she's certainly not thinking of writing or producing something now. I am not holding my breath for it anytime soon. I just don't peg Celine as the type of person who is that musically inclined, or even who is that much more involved in the overall process. I'm not saying that I think she's any less of a person, an artist or a thinker, but I just don't associate her with being some musically gifted person; vocally gifted, most definitely, but musically talented, no. It just so happens that she's someone who is so vocally talented and is singing AC/Pop Music, and a lot of her contemporaries are getting more involved in the process. But, they are just her contemporaries, and are in different places in their careers and personal lives that Celine is. Not really a true comparison, I think. I also liken Celine and her role with the music making process to that of an opera singer: others write, produce, prepare and get the product ready for Celine, then she shows up and buts her gorgeous talent to work, transforming the words on a page into a vocal masterpiece that will be remembered forever. tal-sh2 Posted April 27, 2008 at 06:22 PM Posted April 27, 2008 at 06:22 PM (edited) Yes, I think you right and I think Celine sould be more connect with the songs before she gets the studio. In "Eyes On Me", it was hard for her to sing it and on "Map To My Heart" she didn't knew the words... Don't get me wrong... I'm sure Celine is connected with the lyrics and with all the song but sometimes I think she treat herself like she's here only for donate her voice.. She is THE VOICE, and if Mariah and Madonna do it, she can too! She has to be complete with what around the album and not choose the best songs from 100 songs that she get. Celine was not searching for any Rock songs... She wasn't behind it, she only got the song from a list and she did love that. But honestly, I don't think Celine has so much time to be so involved in album... Especially in "Taking Chances", for example. Before she got into the studio she was in "A New Day..." show so I guess she has no time to say what she wants the songs to be.Or maybe, she just don't know what she wants. We all knows that her albums over the years was fantastic anyway if Celine was not ordered especially each song . We all knows that her albums over the years was fantastic anyway if Celine was not ordered especially each song . I remember older interviews from the late 90's where Celine talks about her and Rene choosing the songs for their albums... I for one have never gotten the impression that they actively search for material; songwriters seem to be happy to have Celine say "yes" to their offerings of lyrics. As for not knowing the words when she's in the studio, Celine has historically not studied, demo'd, practiced or memorized the lyrics, as she wanted the recording of the album track to be fresh and unrehearsed. Not "knowing" the words, to me, is more than ok, considering she didn't pen the lyrics herself. Mariah and Madonna are doing it because they are also writing or co-writing some of their work. Sure, Celine is in the age demographic as these others singing ladies, and maybe even in what's considered to be the same genre of music, however, I do not compare Celine to Madonna, nor do I compare Celine to Mariah [anymore... at one point, 10 years ago, yes, but not anymore]. I am not overly concerned that Celine isn't writing or producing her own material. I would actually be a little nervous about it... I can imagine "Miracle II", all written and produced by Celine Dion. Quote

If she hasn't tried (or maybe she tried but we don't know about it) so many years I think it's clear why. I don't mind that she doesn't write her own songs but the thing that is getting on my nerves is that actually other people tell her how to sing which is... I don't know. It's confusing. But since she let them to do it I think it's for best. She has never been very creative as an artist. Edited April 27, 2008 at 09:00 PM by Nikosn17 Quote

Shaun Posted April 27, 2008 at 09:59 PM Posted April 27, 2008 at 09:59 PM We've seen from all the session videos that Celine does know what it takes technically to produce a record but she simply doesn't want to become more involved than she currently is. We all know that now, more than ever, her priorities are somewhat different. sayyed Posted April 27, 2008 at 10:36 PM Posted April 27, 2008 at 10:36 PM (edited) Of course she can.... maybe not in the ordinairy professional way, that's because she doesn't believe in her ability, but she wrote songs according to René, one song called "Drop by drop", but she doesn't think it's good enough. Since we know what kind of person she is, I wouldn't believe that, I think she is fully able, but only to afraid, to write an album on her own....(time is what she needs, so maybe the album after her break ...) edit: remember - she wrote Tout pres du bonheur! Jacqui Posted April 28, 2008 at 12:20 AM Posted April 28, 2008 at 12:20 AM I remember reading in For Keeps, that she can write and do all that, but she chooses not to because she just doesn't want the added pressure.Oh well, she can sing better than most producers, singers, and writers out there... I second half of it... Céline is a perfectionist and she doesn't think her songs are good enough... but Céline didn't write TPDB! She wrote music to 'I'm gonna love you forever' for Anne-Marie, but someone else wrote the lyrics to céline's music Also I think that (i've read it somewhere) Céline does more in the studio then she's credited for... She comes with suggestions etc... but doesn't become a 'full' producer. Someone said that Céline doesn't have time... that's not true, you can make time for it! I was hoping for some own stuff after her break but alas... Also, I made a topic about this before; I think she should have been encouraged more by Eddy Marnay, Luc Plamandon and JJ for writing her own music! She worked with so many great people! they could have helped her a lot! I don't understand why this never happened... maybe it's rené, lack of time, céline doesn't wanting to, or they never thought about Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
