Garou quitte la compagnie Gestion Artistique CDA, dirigée par René Angélil, quelques jours seulement avant le lancement de son premier album en anglais.

 

Du même coup, le chanteur annonce qu'il met sur pied sa propre compagnie, Wolfgang Entertainment International, avec laquelle il entend mener à bien quantité de projets.

 

Garou avait confié sa carrière à René Angélil il y a huit ans, peu après que la révélation de Notre-Dame de Paris eut participé au spectacle de Céline Dion au Centre Molson, le 31 décembre 1999.

 

Leur contrat se terminait le 15 juin prochain et le chanteur a décidé de ne pas le renouveler pour voler de ses propres ailes.

 

«J'ai plein de projets, a mentionné Garou à La Presse, jeudi. Ma carrière, bien sûr, mais aussi celles d'autres artistes. Ma blonde (la chanteuse française Lorie) sera probablement la première artiste à signer un contrat avec Wolfgang pour sa carrière au Québec.

 

«J'ai envie de prendre des risques, a ajouté Garou pour expliquer sa décision. J'ai trois scénarios de film en écriture, trois projets de télévision, des choses que j'avais en tête depuis deux ans. «Mon seul regret est de ne pas avoir démarré ma compagnie plus tôt, ça fait des années que ça mijote, mais chaque fois, René me convainquait de rester, d'ajouter Garou. Mais c'était inévitable. Peut-être que je vais tellement me plaire là-dedans que je vais faire des pauses dans ma carrière de chanteur pour m'en occuper et revenir chanter plus tard.»

 

Garou et Angélil en sont finalement venus à une entente aux Fêtes l'an dernier et ont confié l'affaire à leurs avocats respectifs. Le chanteur collaborera encore avec la compagnie de René Angélil, d'abord pour l'album anglais Piece of My Soul, qui sortira chez nous le 6 mai et en Europe deux semaines plus tard, mais aussi pour un certain nombre de spectacles déjà prévus jusqu'en septembre prochain. Le chanteur n'exclut pas d'autres types de collaboration entre eux à l'avenir.

 

«Je vais monter un conseil pour Wolfgang Entertainment avec des gens très importants et René va recevoir une invitation, a indiqué Garou. Qu'il l'accepte ou non, j'aurai toujours un immense respect pour cet homme-là et pour sa compagnie, et je sens que c'est réciproque. C'est sûr qu'il y a un malaise présentement, mais René a toujours encouragé les initiatives de plusieurs artistes, il a aidé Grégory Charles à Las Vegas. Et René ne s'est jamais éparpillé; en fait, la première fois qu'il l'a fait, je pense, c'est quand il s'est occupé de ma carrière.»

 

Des investisseurs québécois et européens se joindront à Wolfgang Entertainment. Garou a déjà recruté un acteur important, Mario Bertrand, «qui a des antennes dans plusieurs pays». Il quitte donc le Groupe Juste pour rire dont il était vice-président du conseil chargé de la stratégie internationale.

 

Par le passé, Mario Bertrand a notamment occupé le poste de président et chef de la direction de Télé-Métropole et du Groupe TVA en plus d'avoir été chef de cabinet du premier ministre Robert Bourassa de 1986 à 1990. Wolfgang Entertainment pourra aussi compter sur Hervé Gaillard, ancien collaborateur de Guy Cloutier, qui travaille avec Garou depuis deux ans.

 

La Presse n'a pu parler à René Angélil hier. Le manager et mari de Céline Dion est présentement en vacances avant le début du volet européen de la tournée mondiale Taking Chances, le 2 mai à Manchester.
