caitlin Posted April 20, 2008 at 12:13 PM Posted April 20, 2008 at 12:13 PM Hey, i was thinking about how rare this is actually, do many celine fans out there own a copy? And how much did you pay for it, not to sound rude, but a while ago i saw it on ebay for 300 US dollars and wondered/hoped if that was an outragous price. I hate to say i would struggle to spend that much on an album! Quote
Dionesque Posted April 20, 2008 at 12:47 PM Posted April 20, 2008 at 12:47 PM I think US$ 300 is an outragous price for this album. I mean, it is quite rare but not that rare! I think some people want so much money for it because they state that 1st album from Céline must to be something rarest but actually it isn't. There are a lot more rare albums (for example "Céline Dion chante Noël" or both French-only LPs). I can't tell you exactely how much is "La voix du Bon Dieu" worth, I got mine in exchange for other stuff so haven't paid a cent for it but I saw it many times on eBay and sometimes even for less than US$ 100. Often it's just a matter of luck and you may get it really cheap and still in good conditio. L'amour Posted April 20, 2008 at 05:59 PM Posted April 20, 2008 at 05:59 PM Well i don't know how much it worths...the only thing i know is that i paid something like 15 € for my copy..VERY CHEAP but the quality isn't that good...i mean everyone can see that it's used..it's not mint let's say!!but still it was definately an affair... On the contrary last week i saw from the same ebayer who sold HAND IN HAND promo for 400 €that he sold a copy Ce n'était qu'un rev for less than 40 € i paid mine almost 70 €did i paid too much? caitlin Posted April 20, 2008 at 10:45 PM Author Posted April 20, 2008 at 10:45 PM Oh i saw that Ce n'était qu'un rêve for sale, i was bidding on it but its so difficult to know how much these things are worth so i let it go, I was thinking maybe that was a bad thing to do, Quote
J-Man Posted April 20, 2008 at 11:06 PM Posted April 20, 2008 at 11:06 PM Well I recently got Ce N'etait Qu'un Reve for €8.50 and while it's not mint it's in pretty damn good condition considering it's age. No writing or tears or anything like that,I got my La Voix Du Bon Dieu for €45, and Chante Noel for €35, they are both in near mint condition, in original shrink wrap, But I agree it's hard at times to know what's a good price for stuff with some items selling for €100 or more in price difference.I know I've paid a lot for some items before that I could have got later for €30 or so less, but it's a learning curve and sometimes you just want something so bad you can't help yourself, well I can't anyway! Dionesque Posted April 21, 2008 at 11:36 AM Posted April 21, 2008 at 11:36 AM The question is also: which edition of "Ce n'était qu'un rêve" single do you mean? There is Canadian edition released in 1981 which is indeed Céline's first single ever, it comes without any picture sleeve. This one has instrumental version of the song on its B-side. And than there is French edition released in 1982 which comes with a nice picture sleeve and "L'amour viendra" as the B-side track. I think the French edition is much more rare than the Canadian one. I tend to see Canadian edition quite often on eBay and it's not so expansive, sometimes you can get it even for less than US$ 10 whether tha French edition seems to be quite rare and usually reaches much higher prices. I think a price over US$ 50 would be too much for this one though. But you never know... As I often say: it's just a matter of luck, sometimes you can get pretty rare stuff really cheap... Good luck to you all! J-Man Posted April 22, 2008 at 08:31 AM Posted April 22, 2008 at 08:31 AM (edited) Yes Chante Noel is regarded as the rarist of Celine's standard LPs. It's because it is a Christmas LP and they never make as many of those as they do for general albums, as they are only ever going to sell over a 2 month period, not 12 months like another album. It was a strange choice for a second album and many new artists would have never recovered from such an ill judged release, but as you may have heard, Celine did! Even stranger is the fact that this album was released only 3 weeks after the release of LVDBD. Of course LVDBD is a more important album in Celine's career, but in terms of rarity, a collector needs to search that bit harder for a copy of Sings Christmas.Vivre, a compilation package from Germany, is also considered a fairly rare album Of course the rarest (and most expensive) Celine items are generally the promo singles / early one-off vinyl singles. Dionesque Posted April 22, 2008 at 11:16 AM Posted April 22, 2008 at 11:16 AM (edited) Exactely - John already said it all! I can only add that "La voix du Bon Dieu" has been sold in approx. 50 000 copies where "Céline Dion chante Noël" sold only approx. 25 000. Never again a Céline album sold so less copies. That's also because, as John said, there were not many copies produced of this album - first Céline was still a "newbie" and second it's natural as for holida season's albums. Of course some singles/promos or special releases are more rare than these early vinyls but as we are talking about the rarest album (not a compilation - so that's why I haven't counted German "Vivre" in), "Céline Dion chante Noël" is most likely Céline's rarest full album. And for me it was also the lattest in my collection - I already got all the others but this one Christmas album was hard to find for me or when I once or twice saw it somewhere, it was way too expansive for me to afford. But finally I got them! I wouldn't pay for this record more than $30, and $300 is just ridiculous, unless it has been signed or something like that. Only the cassette tapes of this album would be valued at that high amount, but they never show up.
