Based on what I read from the Chinese forum, during the show, they talked about Celine's 5 years residency in Vegas, and they showed the footages of Celine giving a show on the day her dad passed away. Celine was in tears watching that video, and she later performed the song "Alone" and dedicated that performance to her dad.

I also read from the Chinese forum that as soon as Celine left the stage of the Yan Lan's show, some fans rushed on to the stage and search through the sofa, trying to pick out some fallen hairs of Celine for their own collection. Then some other went up and took away the straw (with her lipstick mark) that Celine used to sip her water, as well as the kleenex that she used to wipe her tears. OMG!!!

Not sure if this has been posted yet, it is a TV news report about Celine's comment on the Olympics. She was asked about the recent protest with the Olympic torch, and here's her response to that:

But...how does the Olympic event costing homes and lives of thousands of people? I do agree with Celine that this sporting event shouldn't be mixed up with politics.

There are many things that happen in this world beyond our full awareness and beyond our control. I don't think Celine should have been asked any questions regarding controversial and sensitive issues such as these, because it was not fitting for her to answer and it was outside of her reasonable comprehension - and it was really pushing her in the corner.

 

And Fred, we all know Celine would answer in the sweetest way possible, because that's her.

Many questions need to be answered but this isn't the right place to ask those questions. And it was not appropriate to ask Celine something that is so controversial. But as always, she answered it the best way she could and I'm happy for it. I hope she isn't asked any of those in the future.

Maybe she doesn't understand that the protests are NOT about the Olympics directly, but about the human rights violations of the Chinese government against Tibet.

Ohhh.... that performance was sooo emotional for her and to see her on that show makes me cry!

To be honest I really don't understand why they keep putting that slide of show. It's something so personal and emotional that in my opinion should not be showing that much . But it is just me

You're not giving her any credit. She's not ignorant at all. She knows very well what happens in the world, she just doesn't want to get involved or comment on such issues, so when she's asked questions like this one she always tries to re-direct them, not to answer them, really. Well, politics affects us all whether we're the President or a road sweeper so asking a singer about politics isn't really inappropriate. It's part of our lives and we should all have opinions on the things that affect our world. Well if she's trying to redirect then she's making herself look dumb in the process, which I doubt is her intention. A simple "no comment" or "I don't really follow politics" would be appropriate if she doesn't know what the heck she is talking about. As a public persona she is open to being asked her opinion on current events. The boycott issue has to do with heads of state going to the opening ceremony, it has nothing to do with the athletes. No young kid's dream will be shattered if Nicolas Sarkozy or Gordon Brown don't show up, it's a political message to China and the IOC. China promised the IOC that they would improve human rights if they got the games but instead they started a crackdown in Tibet and refuse to let Western media film in Tiananmen Square during the Olympics.

It isn't "just" the Tibet issue, the Olympics itself has done huge damage, but like I said to rhapsodion: go do some research on that.

I don't know if this thing is exactly the same as the other article but here's what Rene said to Quebec press.

 

They are 100% for the games. They are against people who try to boycott the games. It's our position to me and Celine. If Celine cancel Pekin, it's not to protest against the games. Celine appreciate the fact that atleths work out all their life for the games and 95% of those people are not chinese. Celine said in the press conference that she's glad she don't know all the details of the canceletation of Pekin, it's a complicated story. The only things Rene accept to say it's that there was complications with the place they were suppose to make the concert. They ask if there was terrorist problems. He said : as fai as i know, no, maybe it's because it's an olympic stadium.

 

10 minutes before the concert, Rene was worried because it was only 10 degres in the stadium, he said it's the coldest place Celine ever made a concert. Rene said it wasn't sold-out but there was 35 000 persons and it was the biggest concert ever made in Shangai.

Of course she was right on, that's not the point here. It's the way she did and the way she got bashed for it (not talking about whether it was the right thing or not). If Celine truly opened her mouth, the media sharks will shred her to pieces. They will use her own words against her. It's already happening right now... I saw an article which said she doesn't care about the people in Tibet. And they supposedly got that from the press conference and the fact that she supports the Olympics (I won't be surprised if this would be spread out within days). This when she hasn't said anything big really.

 

No, Celine is doing the best thing by just commenting lightly on controversial issues, better than giving no comment at al or voicing her opinion strongly (in both cases the media will keep on pressing for more later on).
