wolfepaw Posted April 1, 2008 at 06:54 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 06:54 PM I was just wondering about this the other day. Almost everything I have ever Celine do on stage involves a handheld microphone. Does she ever use just a headset to leave both of her hands free? Since she is so expressive with her hands, it would be nice to see her have the use of both of them when she is singing and dancing. Does anyone know or have an opinion about this? ce-line Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:12 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:12 PM I guess it's because she isn't doing so much on stage... Isn't headsets mostly used, when you dance on stage? Or maybe she just feels more comptable with a handheld one?! Dionesque Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:22 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:22 PM Or maybe she's just sooo used to it through all this years? For me, I like watching her holding the mic, playing with it etc. It has it's charm and somehow it looks classy and traditional too. I like it. But I think she used headset a few times as well, I just can't point on exact recordings at the mo'. KimboCosmo Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:26 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:26 PM I've wondered that as well...but it does make sense because she isn't like Britney Spears who dances (or trys to) all the time, so she really doesn't need it,...plus she very may well just be comfortable with that in her hands...after all these years... Javito Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:50 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:50 PM (edited) It comes to my mind the fabulous performance of Refuse To Dance in TCOML concert in 1995. What a great performance she did Look this video and seek for another one in which the diva performs like that today, you won't find another video with such drama and character. I miss this kind of performances Refuse To Dance - youtube She also did Misled without microphone in this concert Edited April 1, 2008 at 07:51 PM by Gonzalillo Quote "Hush, now... I miss these days too, this whole album is amazing! I just honestly think Celine uses her mic, because it's like a security blanket to her... CelineFanInSoCal Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:58 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:58 PM I think that as a performer, especially one who commands herself on the stage like Celine does, holding a mic gives a feeling of more control. If she did some of the same stage movements or really got into the song as she does, not holding a mic and having BOTH hands to go crazy with would be way too much. LOL Maybe it's like someone who drives a stick shift... they could never go back to an automatic... they would feel as through they aren't in as much control. Celine has used a headset a few times, most recently during the AND show when she was singing TFTEISYF and was flying around in the air. She used a skin toned head set then. She also used on during TCOML concert during Refuse To Dance. Headsets are more difficult to keep in place, in front of your mouth, and performers are always fumbling with the mouth piece to keep it close to their mouths. A traditional mic like she uses now best suites her. You can't thump yourself on the chest, skip around, or fall to the ground if you're too busy worrying about a mouth piece not being near your mouth. Just the thought of it seems awkward to me. She's holding the mic with one hand, and has another hand raised to the ceiling singing "anymooooooooore".... with a head set, shed have both hands in the air doing crazy stuff, and asking us to pull around to the first window for our food. VintageCeline Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:58 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 07:58 PM Because headsets look stupid lol. And Celine doesnt really need one, because she doesnt do much over the top dance moves which requires a headset x Quote http://24.media.tumblr.com/94198518f8a09aef1d336d6fde8fc8b3/tumblr_mkdcezs36X1r7lwiso1_400.jpg

celinerific Posted April 1, 2008 at 08:05 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 08:05 PM I remember I tried using a headset once... It was awkward. Perhaps Celine doesn't wear it because it's uncomfortable... or it might mess up her pefectly perfect hair. Or maybe because it makes her look like she's telemarketing. But in all seriousness... like most people said, I think it's a comfort zone for her to have a mic in hand when she sings. She grew up that way, and I find it so cute now that I think of it. wolfepaw Posted April 1, 2008 at 08:30 PM Author Posted April 1, 2008 at 08:30 PM Such good answers from everyone. I tend to agree with the idea that she has gotten used to using it over the years. I have so many pictures of her holding the microphone, that it is almost part of her persona. From roberry82:...with a head set, she'd have both hands in the air doing crazy stuff, and asking us to pull around to the first window for our food. Can I have onion rings instead of fries with that order? -------And thanks to Gonzalillo for posting the link to RTD. I had never seen it before and you're right, what a great performance. stevethefan Posted April 1, 2008 at 10:31 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 10:31 PM Personally the only time I think performers should use the headset microphones is if they are dancing more than singing. I've always thought those mike's look silly. I remember when I first saw some country singer use one of those a long time ago like Garth Brooks or someone and I thought it looked ridiculous. Practically speaking it may be better for someone who has to either dance or play an instrument like a guitar, but I still think it looks better to either use the handheld mike or even use it on a stand. Also, if you are singing, the handheld is probably better because if you notice when singers have to sing higher or louder they will move the microphone farther away from themselves so it won't distort the sound and you can't really do that with the headset ones. smw Posted April 1, 2008 at 10:33 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 10:33 PM I think it all goes back to when she was a little girl - singing for Rene in his office. He let her use his pen as a microphone. And he mortgaged his house for her. I think it's a comfort for her. ...and if anyone was ever meant to hold a microphone, it's Celine. Quote
dimence Posted April 1, 2008 at 11:09 PM Posted April 1, 2008 at 11:09 PM Well I think she doesn't use those headsets because she got a powerful voice and keeping the mic really close to her mouth would blow away everything fragile around her ) looool. P.S. Nice 1st of april skin:))) Quote
Black Kitten Posted April 2, 2008 at 12:25 AM Posted April 2, 2008 at 12:25 AM celine's #1 asset is obviously her VOICE. look who are using headsets, Janet Jackson (love her!), Britney Spears, Madonna etc... because they are focusing on showing their dancing skills than their singing. celine is no way a dancer, so i just can't imagine her using headsets all the time.
