Forum Suggestion

I don't know if this is in the right place, so sorry if it isn't, but I have a suggestion for the forum.

 

I've noticed a lot of theads are locked because they're repeat topics, yet the older threads with the same subject matter, might be like a year or two old. If someone wants to make a topic that has already been done, but it hasn't been bumped in forever, can we just leave the repeat topic up? Because that means we have to go through some 40-50 pages worth of threads just to see if it's already been talked about, and that's very tedious and time consuming. Plus that thread had died a long time ago, and is long since forgotten and way in the back of the forums.

 

So just a friendly suggestion...if there's a repeat topic that was always posted about, but it's been several years, can we just leave the topic open?

 

What I'm really referring to is the "What Other Forums Are You A Member Of?" thread. I saw it was locked because it was a repeat topic, but no one has responded to the old thread in over a year, and it would take a long time to keep searching and find it.

 

Again, just a friendly suggestion.

I totally agree with you. I had never read that old thread and the new one seemed very interesting to me, and a lot of people were posting.

 

At least what could be done is that both topics are merged, so that the comments on the new topic are not lost.

If it has died a long time and and is forgotten, why create a new topic about it? I say if you really care about the subject matter, bump the old topic.

I totally agree, it's happened many times with me!

 

And more: The moderators have the habit of closing the topic without any explanation. Sometimes I keep look for a topic to answer whithout knowing that it was already deleted!

You should post a message explaining why it will be closed, close it, and a few hours after, delete it!

True but, that doesn't mean a year or two later that people won't want to talk about it again.

i dont see whats the big fuss. closing a topic and coming back to delete later is a pain in the butt. especially for the admins. they have to keep the forum in check. and there are tons of topics around this forum. you dont expect them to remember every single thing do ya?

I made a sticky Threads INDEX for Celine forum in VN. That way, it is much easier to prevent repeated topic and to search infos in the right place. You musnt browse all 100 pages but only one page, and it saves a lot of time.

bad idea. what if the thread has gone to page 2 or 3? each page contains 30 posts. its a nightmare PMing soooo many different people

Sorry I thought it could be automatic like creating a message and I dunno, clicking somewhere to send everybody! Well, nowadays the technology... we never know lol

I agree, but don't agree. There is the search function, however that only works up to a certain extent. Any search engine has its limitations.

 

One example I can give when I feel a repeat topic is okay to keep open is if a poll has been applied to either the new and/or old thread. For instance I have created topics about which songs should have been a single or what should be included on the next "Collector's Series." As new songs are released, new albums are released, etc., this would make the older threads out-of-date. If there was a way to have the ORIGINAL POSTER go back and delete the original poll and create a new one then I'd be all for keeping the old thread, but since there isn't (that I know) a new thread should be allowed to be created.

 

Just my two cents.
