amyja89 Posted March 2, 2008 at 02:44 PM Posted March 2, 2008 at 02:44 PM That Celine has only had two #1 hits in the UK, Think Twice and My Heart Will Go On! It's ridiculous! Quote
WaterFromTheMoon Posted March 2, 2008 at 06:38 PM Posted March 2, 2008 at 06:38 PM well, she never was a big #1 song artist, while most of her albums reached #1... a lil strange *lol* Quote
tonybower Posted March 2, 2008 at 08:00 PM Posted March 2, 2008 at 08:00 PM Unfortunately, she just isn't considered cool enough. I know many people who like Celine songs and don't even know she's singing them. I know people who like album songs that should've been released as singles in the UK (I Love You, Water From The Moon, Stand By Your Side etc). Bad decisions and poor exposure have led to this sorry state of affairs... In the late 90s and after 2002 Celine just wasn't Brit-Pop enough to get airplay. And now, to be respected as a musician in the UK, you need to be uber-cool, be from a privileged background but act like your street, and above all be an alcoholic or drug addict. Only then will the radios play you. I Drove All Night, Eyes On Me etc could have been hits but Celine just doesn't get the airplay in the UK. The stations won't play her because they think the public don't want to hear her and the public won't buy her because she isn't played on the radio. This has two consequences: if she isn't on the radio she can't be cool so people don't buy; and if she isn't on the radio, people don't hear her and therefore don't buy. I have no idea why Celine has such a negative image in the UK. People are ashamed to like her! And many who like her music won't admit it or even buy it. Okay, her style might not appeal to everyone, but if it is acceptable to buy and like Leona Lewis, why is it not okay to buy Celine? Are they so different, stylistically? I'm one of the only people in my peer group who openly loves Celine, and I sometimes have to defend my own music choice to people! I guess I get treated differently because I like all of the music that is deemed as 'cool' aswell, (Klaxons, Kate Nash, Amy Winehouse etc), and most people just see it as a weird personality quirk that Celine is my favourite singer! I think what's even worse is if people are Celine fans but don't admit it, what's the point! ALSO, she's managed to sell out two nights at the O2 and nights in Manchester, so she must have a hell of a lot of fans in the UK, GUYS WHERE ARE YOU HIDING! SuperLove4Celine Posted March 3, 2008 at 04:03 AM Posted March 3, 2008 at 04:03 AM First, let me state that I do not live in the U.K. nor have I ever visited the U.K. (although I'd love to someday). The statement I'm amount to make is purely speculation and a personal view. I have no idea what the mindset is of Englanders and won't pretend to start thinking I do. With that said I feel that the majority of the problem is the media and press. THEY are the ones who have made it uncool to like Celine. And sadly the majority of the human race are lemmings, meaning they are followers who tend to not go with their own thoughts and tastes. To go by what was said in the movie, Men In Black, A person (1 person) is smart, PEOPLE (crowds in general) are dumb. If the radio, newspapers, magazines, television stations, etc. were to start making it "COOL" or "IN" to like Celine it's amazing how quickly people would make a 180° and say they love her. The human race is a sad species indeed. LOL - Joe PS CALL THE MAN, HE'S NEEDED HERE! Quote
bfhb Posted March 3, 2008 at 04:19 AM Posted March 3, 2008 at 04:19 AM she is easy to ridicule and that is the standard for most of the media ....they build u up they knock u down ....they have that power.....i cant see celine having more number 1 singles uk/ireland ......airplay for celine is minimal...but taking chances is well advertised on i-tunes ireland but i dont think she has reached the download audience.......celine will never be cool enough for these guys thats why the music has to be superb for it to stand a chance.....it is unfair as her material and certainly her talent beats the hell out of most of whats in the charts Quote love doesn't ask whyspeaks from the heart and never explainsdont you know that love doesn't think twiceit can come all at once or whisper from a distance
RLAAMJR. Posted March 3, 2008 at 04:27 AM Posted March 3, 2008 at 04:27 AM ... that she hasn't visited the Philippines despite of being popular here especially during the Falling Into You and Let's Talk About Love era. Quote
