tonybower Posted February 10, 2008 at 12:25 PM Posted February 10, 2008 at 12:25 PM (edited) I have just discovered the video of Tina Turner, Cher and Elton John performing Proud Mary at DIVAS 1999. It is truly incredible. How wonderful to see these two women, both legends, take to the same stage and perform a classic.They both exude power and energy but most importantly, mutual respect. If you haven't seen it, watch it! It made me wonder if we can expect a similar performance in ten years from Celine and,say, Mariah or Whitney? Can anybody actually imagine Mariah joining Celine on stage to sing a Celine classic, or inviting Celine on stage to sing one of her own songs? I know we had DIVAS 1998 but the closest we get to the Cher/Tina duet was with Celine and Carole King. I'm sure Celine would be more than happy to perform with one of her contemporaries. I just think it's a shame that most singers of her generation seem to have either professional or personal troubles and are surrounded by scandal. Whether it be an inflated ego or drug abuse or a mental breakdown, these singers seem so unstable. Can we hope to see them as dignified and impressive as Tina and Cher in the future? I certainly hope so. Then, of course, the question asks itself: who would Celine perform with and what song would it be? (Of course, I mean actual live performance, not some recording produced separately because the singers can't stand each other...!) Anyway, the clip has only made me more determined to get to Vegas to see Cher's show... What a legend! LEGENDS in one show may sure have a repeat, but no one will do it the way celine does. believe me. she's a living miracle. Quote

LEGENDS in one show may sure have a repeat, but no one will do it the way celine does. believe me. she's a living miracle. i totally agree with you. i was watching mariahs last tour on tele last night (mimi) and noticed loads that she was singing with playback! well celine is amazing...i know that i moan about her mimming but i understand why she does it.....but when this woman sings live its amazing...............i only watched oprah for the first time the other day and she blew me away...remembered why i adored her so much i mean her voice live is stunning.ok she has not got the voice pre00s but its still amazing.when i see her live this year i know im gonna die from the amount of goosebumps ill get........i just wish she did sing live on tele more often! oh and i heard immensitie live for the first time today..........sorry for the verbal but its got to be put here FECKING hell was she amazing...she dont need to mime! oh i also could not stop laughing at mariahs new dvd last night cause of how fat she looked lol and what she was wearing was wrong....cover up love! tonybower Posted February 11, 2008 at 05:01 PM Author Posted February 11, 2008 at 05:01 PM (edited) The problem with today's Divas is the scandal that surrounds them all and the animosity between them.I found it so refreshing to see Cher and Tina on the same stage performing a Tina classic. There was such respect there. I could definitely see Celine and Tina together because they both have such energy and power and Tina's songs suit Celine a lot.But Tina and Cher are a different kind of artist from a different generation. I think it's a shame but I just can't see Mariah or Whitney or Madonna or whoever getting on stage with Celine when they are 60 years old and belting out a classic together. The truth is Celine fits better with Tina's generation because she is uncontroversial and dignified and respectful. She is a true artist. When I saw the Tina/Cher clip I found it so refreshing. But if I'm honest I don't think I would want to see Celine take to the stage with a singer of her generation. I mean, even Barbara Streisand took the shine off Tell Him by being so bithcy so imagine how Mariah would be next to Celine on stage. The truth is, Celine's too nice for all of them. On the topic of legends though, I have just seen a clip of Cher introducing Tina and Beyonce at the Grammys and then the two women went on to perform Proud Mary together. It was just incredible and it's really amazing to see somebody like Tina Turner taking to the stage like that and commanding such respect. I don't always think Beyonce has a very strong voice but her image, her style and her legs make her as incredible as Tina. Although I would have preferred to see Cher and Tina on stage together again, this was definitely another legendary performance and it really is amazing to see the return of such inspiring women. And what I'm trying to say is, as much as I want to see Celine's reign last forever, I look forward to seeing her take to the stage in twenty years time and command the respect Tina and Cher do today! Long live Tina and Cher! I hope Tina is able to do a tour (even though I've already drained my finances buying tickets for Celine!) and I will definitely make sure I get to see Cher in Vegas!
