How much money does Celine get from albums sales?

How much does Celine (and Rene) get from each CD that they sale?

Does they get most of the money or only something like 1$?

im studying this ...

as far as i know an artist can earn money on this situations:

 

signing or re-signing contract:

theres an amount of money just to sign or renew contracts

 

copyright/ royalties:

performing rights (she receives each time someone whants to use her version of "that" song)

 

mechanical royalties - songwriters (melody/lyrics) or publishing company receive this amount on every cd or legal download/ use on commercials ,TV,movies and when someone wants to make a cover of the song.

 

from the total amount she earns

imagine 250.000 cds sold

 

an average price of $15

 

250.000 x 15 = $3.750.000

(to compare, she earn this with 3 concerts from a new day...remember when she donate the profit of a show to the tsunami?)

the money pass trough this division (out of order):

 

pay taxes and the marketing and production costs, like musicians/producers, and cd package.

 

discount of a % of the profit to the label (it can be from 30% to 70%, depends of the contract, and when youre the best selling female artist you can negotiate a very lower % to the label)

 

% to the entertainment attorney who negotiated the budget of the project with the label

 

division to the songwriters (melody and lyrics)

 

so after all this cuts and divisions celine might receive from $1.50 or $2.00 per album

 

but after all of this i say that she always earns money from dvds, books, songbooks, royalties to sell parfum with her name.

but what make them even richer is concerts...

so the album can sell alot to pay all the publicity

promo trips....

 

this costs are even higher than the production itself

I agree with what you guys have already said. On Behind the Music they've spoken about royalties. Usually people make $2 or so. So I would imagine Celine would make $3-4 per CD.

 

But yeah, that won't even cover promotion

I can't remember where I read this but about a year ago a reputable magazine ran an article about the best cd deals in the business. They said Coldplay makes about 2 1/2 Euros per albums sold (do the money conversion - that's a lot of money!!) and Toby Keith negotiated a $2.50 per album which is suppose to be one of the highest in the business. So, I would guess Celine earns between $2.50 - $3 per album.

Basically, Celine's income from the music comes from the actual contract.

But the songwriters and record company make the most money from actual CD sales?

 

Also, in terms of records sold and chart positions, am I right in thinking that record sale estimates are based on how many CDs are shipped to stores originally? So actually buying a record does not improve chart position etc unless demand gets bigger and stores request more discs?

Presumably, stores buy the records from stockists based on expected demand?

Celine doesn't write her material, hence she doesn't get money for the lyrics and music...BUT Rene is very cunning : since her CD's are bound to sell millions of copies, he asks to the writers/musician to giveaway a part of their gains to Celine. It's a win win situation: the musician gets a lot of money by being on celine's album...and celine gets money from them.
