Well, I know that most Celine Dion fans sing well ( I hope ).(",) I sing good i think. But who among you auditioned for the American idol? Or are you gonna audition?

I would love  to be there singing for American Idol '08. The problem is that I'm argentinian but here in my country and more especifically in Santa Fe, the city where I live, I tend to sing more songs in English than in Spanish.

The music is my work as it is for Celine and it's also my whole life and a way to express myself and my feelings.

I sing in pubs, restaurants and weddings but someday I'd like to see my dream come true.

So now you know that I'd die to take an audition for American Idol.

I wish you the best. :flowers: Hope to see you in the program.

Good luck!!!!

I did it THREE times. To be honest with you, I really don`t recommend it. If it was the first or second season I would say go for it, because they were actually looking for talent, but now its a joke. This isn`t me being bitter or jealous of others or anything like that either. Its just what I witnessed when I auditioned this past summer. Here`s what happened when I auditioned in Philly:

I got there on a Friday night and I had to stay in a hotel that was way out in the boonies because it was close to the venue. I woke up @ 3am and got to the venue around 4am to see a HUUUUUGE line already forming. So I got in line and plopped on the ground and waited....and waited....and waited. Then around 8am we started moving and we went inside to register, get our wrist bands etc. This took only about 5 minutes then we could go off and do whatever and come back the next morning to audition. This part wasn`t bad, I actually met some cool people. The next day we had to be there at the crack of dawn again and we filled into the stadium and took our seats. The producers had us sing a song (I love Rock n Roll) and yell "welcome to the city of brotherly love!" etc for the crowd shots. This was kinda fun. Then we sat down and waited allll day for EVERY PERSON to audition. There were some amazing people there...I mean like crazy talented and they were being picked over by people in stupid costumes making fools out of themselves. At about 1pm I finally got to go. And no, you don`t sing in front of Paula, Simon and Randy. There are about 10 or 12 tents on the floor and there`s one or two producers sitting at each table. Sometimes they`ll pay attention to you, sometimes they won`t. Sometime they`ll even talk to each other during your audition! If you make it pass this one, and then pass other one...THEN and ONLY then do you get to sing for the fab three. Anyway, so it was my turn and I gave it my all. I sang 'Why' by Annie Lennox. The judge said I was good then had me step back in line to let the others sing (you go four at a time). After everyone was done he had us all come to the table and he said we`re good singers but just not strong enough for the competion. He was saying that to everyone in front of our group as well. And that was it. I did my walk of shame across the whole stadium and it felt like the longest walk of my life. I was disappointed at the time, because I thought with my experience I would make it, but no.

The experience gave me a new outlook on life though. I am now more dedicated to singing than ever, and I think I would have a better shot of making it if I do it the old fashion way and sing in bars and stuff. I think its more rewarding too. So my advice to you is, if you want to go just to experience it, then do it once. But if you`re going to get discovered, do it on your own. Sing at open mics, make a myspace music page, do a vlog on youtube. More and more people are getting record deals now because of the internet.

Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do :flowers:

what!?! whoa, i didn't know idol auditions were that long and picky

so that's how all of those thousands of people get narrowed down...

what a bummer to wait for so long, not get even chosen, and get your hopes brought down

what a shame that they just look for ridiculous people that stand out and good looking people that can't even sing, than to pick real talent...guess that's just how the music industry works nowadays

but that`s the thing...its NOT how the industry works. A&R wants people that are unique and truely talented...people who can sell records. Not people who can make the label look foolish.

It's a TV show. They bring in the weirdos to get rejected on TV for peoples' entertainment and then they bring in people who can sing AND are TV friendly for the rest of the show. The Idol format is an A&R department's dream because they let the American public take the guess work out of it for them. By the time the winners start their record deals they already have a built in national fan base. Major record labels want people unique enough to stand out as a distinct artist but similar enough to what's out there to be a safe bet. Just like major motion picture...it's all derivative. The indy world is a different story. They probably pass over people so quickly because they're pros and they've heard so many singers that they know exactly what differentiates someone with a good voice and someone with a superstar voice.

Wow that's cool that you got to audition.

I used to watch that show but now it's starting to be like all the other reality shows where they seem to want to focus on some of the crazy people that show up in the beginning. Although, in the beginning some of those people really were crazy and now people just act that way since they know it could give them the possibility of being seen by millions of viewers.

Obviously there are a lot of talented people that audition, and I'm sure most of them don't get picked. So then you end up with a few that make it. Of course they are going to usually pick the "beautiful" people.

I think AI will start to lose ratings soon. Two recent winners just got dropped by their record labels. What surpised me was that one guy (forgot his name) got dropped and he had sold half a million albums! At one time that would have been a lot but now they need million sellers.

I auditioned the Dutch Idol 2008!

I don't really recommend it! I had to stand outside for 4 hours waiting.. and every half hour we could move like 12 steps.. We counted them because we didn't have anything to do:P

Maybe I'll enter the American Idol someday!

Well.. After being at the auditions in Amsterdam my goal is to try as hard as I can to meet nice and important people in the industry... Write songs.. Sing as much as I can.. Believe.. And I'll get there! Just work as hard as you can.. Give it your all and a little bit more;)

I wouldn't enter the Dutch Idol! But you probably won't :sofunny: It's all sooooo fake in there!

I have no idea what the American Idol auditions are like but I would recommend that! Maybe you're the one! At least they get somewhere!

The Pinoy Idol audition here in our place is this coming Febraury 7, 2008. I'm gonna audition. It'll be my first time. I might sing "Flying Without Wings" by Westlife. And if I make it to tv, I'll might sing "Aun Existe Amor, It's All Coming Back To Me Now" and "SIn Miedo A Nada" by Enrique.

I'm so nervous now. I hope I'll make it. And of course, no matter what happens, if the judges will ask me who my favortie artists are , I'm gonna mention Celine's name.

I highly reccommend that you DO NOT sing a Celine song, or Whitney or ANY of the divas. You can sing something popular but those types of songs are just too well known, and most people cannot pull them off.

Best of luck to you.
