Tennis: The Australian Open 2008 starts this Jan.14

Men: Roger Federer - Just recently recovered from a stomach virus but I dont see anyone challenging him until Novak Djokovic (recently injured) in the semis. David Nalbandian who beat Roger twice in a row late last year is injured and is in the same section of the draw as Djoko.

Women: Serena - She's looking fitter and post-heartbreak angst will help her(haha). / Venus - She's more prepared at this time of the year than usual and she should wear down her opponents under the scorching sun. But both will have their hands full vs. sneaky Juju.

*knocks on wood*

Sorry, dj4celine, but Maria has the toughest draw among the women. She could face a comebacking Lindsay Davenport in the second(!) round and might have to get past sneaky Juju in the QF.

Serena Williams.

And anyone who plays Justine Henin.

And Federer.

Manuel, when did I tell that I liked Maria?? :P

I'm rooting for Juju in the women's and Fedex in the men's

:cheer: GOOOO ROGER !! :cheer:

Let me get this straight, dj, you don't like her game but she's doing to you what Sushmita Sen failed to do?

Sushmita Sen :o What a comparison!!

Well, Maria does look good and she has almost all of my friends bawling after her :giggle: But I can't bear her shrieking :pinch: And yes, she isn't my fav women's tennis player... heck! she doesn't even rank in my top 10 fav women tennis players

But she sure is an eye-candy :shifty:

I've already been twice and it hasn't started yet :P I went to the wildcard playoff in December to see Jelena Dokic and I went to qualifying last Friday to see Dokic and Olivia Sanchez.

All year long I support mainly all the Australian girls, Chinese/Taiwanese Girls and French girls, as well as Richard Gasquet and Florent Serra :D

Have a nice time, Celinefull! The AO crowd is the best in Grand Slam tennis! The French can be rude, the British are reserved and the New Yorkers are noisy.

Andy Roddick or Lleyton. Im sick of Federer winning all the time

Lleyton's best days are behind him. Andy has the bad luck of not possibly meeting Roger until the final. The Swiss guy hasn't played a match since Nov. and I do see him struggling with the new surface in the earlier rounds. If he makes it to the final, he'll be fully adjusted by then and it will be a very tall task to beat him.

Rafal Nadal has a good chance too - he's been very good lately.

I think Nadal vs. Roddick in the QF will determine the finalist from the bottom half of the draw. We'll see. Edited by manuel morriso

The mastery of Fedex was just too much for Diego Hartfield today... and that too in straight sets with almost no competition was kinda (forgive me Fed) boring to watch... 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 was just pathetic :pinch:

Ah, dj would rather be a bag of delirium-inducing nerves than be bored.......

Anyway, I'm waiting for the 3rd round match of Sania Mirza vs. Venus Williams :w00t: I know the Indian gal is gonna be thrashed but that is one match I wanna watch after the match of Maria Sharapova and Lindsay Davenport turned out to be so boring -_-

Yes, dj, you're bound to be bored and feel pity for his opponent until the semis where Novak will give him a nice challenge and you an irregular heart rate. :giggle:

Whatever happened to Sania Mirza? There was so much hype around her at one point but she has remained outside the elite circle. Didn't Tony Roche (Federer's former coach) work with her last year?

ugh always the typical Indian fan, so critical of Sania. :whistling: she has good chances to win this match if she brings her A game.

Don't you dare say that, Manuel :giggle: If Novak does anything "harmful" to Fed, then I am so over having a crush on him :P

And about Sania and Tony Roche, I ahve no idea cos I dont follow her tennis that much.. no offense to her.. but she and her type of game is just too weird for me... one day she is in top form and the next day she's down with an injury

Damien, I didn't mean it that way  I like Sania and proud that she's the first Indian woman to do so much for tennis and is kind of an inspiration for all the girls here, but I don't think she has much of a chance against Venus

Today was shocking: Andy Roddick ousted by Philip Kohl... (I can't spell his name)... but it was an awesome match

lol..well I love Sania and it's so annoying how much some Indian people beat up on her.

Damien, today I was so damn proud about Sania cos not only did she play amazing, but it looked like she even had a chance of beating Venus in the first set. But the second set produced tons of double faults from Sania's side. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed today's match.

And I dont wanna even start with Hewitt and Baghdatis' match. It was

dj, how was your heart rate during the Feddy-Tipsy match? :sofunny: Now, that was not boring, was it?

And don't go wasting all that love on Djoko. Hasn't he been keeping Ana I. happy for years now? I suspect that they popped each other's cherry.

Poor Andy, 42 aces and still lost. His ground game leaves a lot to be worked on. Too much spin w/o any damaging depth, power and angle. I just hope that Paris Hilton was on standby to give him comfort.

S. Mirza actually played well vs. Venus but she simply doesn't have the ability to whack the ball with consistent authority.

It's the women's QF tomorrow. dj will be torn between his love for Juju's game and his lust for Masha's "eye-candiness". :P

HOLY CELLINI!!!! The unseeded Tsonga guy is through to the final after OVERWHELMING Nadal. This tournament really has a knack for producing surprise male finalists. On the women's side, Masha vs. Ana has got to be the most telegenic final ever.

I felt bad that Juju had to lose the match like that.. I mean, the second set was a disaster :o What in the world happened to her??

I loved every single bit of Nadal and Tsonga in that semi-final match... just AWESOME!!! :wow:

In the women's side, I could have sworn that Daniela Hantuchova was gonna win, but Novak's gonna lurve hum*ing Ana more than ever now :shifty: If only she could beat Masha in the final, then it would be victory for Novak :P

I'm anxiously waiting for Fedex and Novak's semi-final match... by the looks of what's been happening with the grand slam this year, anything can happen

I don't see Ana beating Masha. Poor Daniela. She had no business losing that match. I actually find her more talented than Sharapova. Her problem is her lack of steely self-belief. She tends to unravel when her opponent starts digging in her heels.

When the Fed-Novak match airs, dj will be sighing over Feddy's shots and Novak's looks. :P

HOLY CELLINI....HOLY MIMI.....SANTA HAGDONNA.....why have you 3 abandoned him? Why, why, WHYYYYYYY?????!!!!

:eek_drop: WHAT IN THE F**KING WORLD HAPPEN?? :shocking:

I can't believe what I saw

This is the weirdest Grand Slam in recent times with so many surprises and shockers :o

Yiu know what, dj, I wasn't really feeling good about Roger's chances bec. of the stomach virus that struck JUST DAYS before the tournament. When he needed five sets to beat Tipsarevic (10-8 in the 5th at that), I just knew it would be a tall order for him to win the title this year. Anyway, pundits have been saying over and over that the ONLY thing he needs now to be proclaimed as the greatest player ever is to win the French Open. He doesn't even need to surpass Sampras' 14 majors. He just has to win the French. Can he do it?

As for Maria winning the women's crown, I think she deserves it considering how much disappointment she had to endure in this tournament in the past. In 2005, she had 3 match pts. vs. Serena, in 2006, she lost a very close match to Juju, and of course, last year, she was ruthlessly demolished by Serena.

Meanwhile, Manuel is trying his best to console the Dancing Mystic Cat and the Undie-Hating Bear but they're busy shedding a tear for each strand of hair in Feddy's body.

Hantuchova's main problem is that she's an idiot.
