Dominique Lemieux a signé les costumes de tous les spectacles du Cirque du Soleil entre 1989 et 1998, y compris Quidam, O et La Nouba. Elle vient de reprendre du service pour Corteo, le dernier-né des shows pour chapiteaux de la compagnie, qui sera lancé en grande première mondiale la semaine prochaine à Montréal. Elle a même habillé Céline Dion et ses danseurs pour le spectacle A New Day, présenté à Las Vegas.

 

La créatrice exceptionnelle, à la touche reconnaissable entre toutes, est le sujet de ce documentaire. Ce dernier suit Mme Lemieux chez elle, aux États-Unis, en Europe et au Japon pour tenter de faire comprendre ses sources d'inspiration et ses méthodes de travail. On la voit par exemple arpenter le labyrinthe de la cathédrale de Chartres, un des points de référence visuel et spirituel de Corteo. Des morceaux choisis de différents spectacles et des prises en coulisses permettent aussi de voir comment se comportent les costumes sur scène.

 

Les témoignages des autres créateurs montrent le profond respect qu'inspire la Montréalaise. Le Belge Franco Dragone résume bien le point de vue partagé en disant que Dominique Lemieux ne «déguise» pas, mais «aiguise» les personnages dont elle révèle finalement l'âme.

 

On peut reprocher au film de ne pas assez bien suivre les différentes étapes concrètes de la conception d'un costume, de la table à dessin à l'atelier. Ainsi, on n'apprend rien, ou si peu, de ce point de vue, sur les habits de A New Day. Le texte de la narration pourra aussi un peu énerver par son côté poético-pompier. Mais bon, le documentaire demeure très instructif en plus de rendre hommage à un des piliers méconnus du Cirque du Soleil.

i like the first and the last one!!!! the pink one looks great... i wonder why they didnt put it in the show... they have many songs, and costumes, but not changing at all....

This is a great show about A new day. They showed many rare photages.

They even showed Celine, Rene and RC watching rehearsals.

I have only LQ version and I would really love to have it in better quality.
