SuperLove4Celine Posted December 27, 2007 at 06:35 AM Posted December 27, 2007 at 06:35 AM Hey all, A random thought just popped into my head so I figured I'd share it with you all. You know -- just to see what everybody thinks. Anyway, I remember reading in For Keeps about how Celine saved the jobs of about 12 dancers in A New Day... She said that when she heard that they were going to get fired she went to Rene and told him to find another way because she didn't want to see them without a job since they have families to take care of. This brings me to the purpose of this thread. Do you guys think that one of the reasons A New Day... got shorter was as a way to save these dancers' jobs? By shortening the show it would have meant shorter man-hours needed to produce and run the show each day that it ran. By taking out 2 or more numbers this could have greatly saved the company money - thus saving the above mentioned dancers' jobs. What do you guys think? ...Joe... PS: I know of the other reason - Caesars Palace wanting there to still be enough time after the show for the attendees to go gamble. But I don't know if that would be enough of a reason to cut as many numbers as they did. Quote
Davey84 Posted December 27, 2007 at 10:14 AM Posted December 27, 2007 at 10:14 AM I also still think it's might be Céline herself... so she could be with rené=charles sooner... but that could be a good reason... céline could also have paid them herself! neilg Posted December 28, 2007 at 12:43 AM Posted December 28, 2007 at 12:43 AM When did it get shorter? I went at the start of 2006, and the end of 2007, and it was the same length both times. Anyway - they pump the casinos with oxygen to keep people alert! I've seen people (and have myself gambled ) all night, so I don't know why they would shorten the show to give people more time to throw their money away. Quote

It was shortly after the show started that it began to get shorter. "Have You Ever Been In Love" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" were removed fairly early on. I understand the reason behind "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," though. Something about Celine getting injured and it possibly having something to do with the flying. And then a few years later "At Last," and "Fever" were removed. I doubt my original post's intent really has anything to do with what really went down, but it was just a thought, that's all. ...Joe... Quote
idroveallnight Posted December 28, 2007 at 02:48 AM Posted December 28, 2007 at 02:48 AM Well I remember Celine said something along the lines that some of those songs really didn't do anything for the audience and that's why she cut them. But seeing the last few shows, everything was done flawlessly from beginning to end and the song sequence was perfect...my one complaint is that it all just seemed so fast. I don't think, however, that the show was shortened to accommodate those dozen dancers' jobs. I'm sure Celine would've paid their salaries out of her own pocket if worse came to worst. I think Rene probably thought the Vegas audience was undeserving of Celine, which is true. Many of the people in the audience were shouting stupid things during her speeches, some people were knocked out in their seats, and many of us fans were asked to sit down or were frowned upon when we got up and began clapping while Celine was performing. I felt like giving a standing ovation to her after every song she sang and people were dead silent. I was asking myself what is wrong with them? It was the best show any artist has ever delivered in history and yet you had people slouching in their seats. So why give more when the audience couldn't care less? Anyways, as they say, less is more. Quote
stevethefan Posted December 28, 2007 at 03:05 AM Posted December 28, 2007 at 03:05 AM Well I think one main reason they got rid of "The First Time..." was that she had to have some kind of surgery that I believe was caused by the "flying" part of that song. I think she had a hernia. She mentions it briefly on the DVD. They show her doing that song in the DVD and when I saw it I was thinking..."wow, that's cool but mighty DANGEROUS, especially for the person who is the STAR of the show." It just seemed extremely risky that she was elevated six stories above the stage. I'm surprised they even let her do that in the show, although it was cool to see it in the DVD. Quote

It was VERY dangerous and I also think that insurance companies weren't to happy with her doing that.Plus Céline had an incident with 'flying' before...she did a performance once, I think it was on the Juno's or Adisq in 1998, she performed Terre in a hovering globe and something went wrong and she almost fell out of the thing. You hear her clearly yelling "STOP" at the beginning of the performance, but nobody hears her and you see her clinging on for dear life... scorp82 Posted December 28, 2007 at 02:28 PM Posted December 28, 2007 at 02:28 PM Well, the show had really evolved in comparison when it debuted in 2003. However, I think Celine and Dragone knew changes would have to be made as the show progressed. I am sure they knew certain songs would be eliminated and others added, etc. However, I am quite glad the show changed from its beginnings to the final stages. It has always been a great show, but I guess things do improve with time. In its final stages, the show was just even better than ever before. But I am sure other factors would come into play as well. Celine indeed acted graciously if she intervened on behalf of her dancers' jobs. Also, even if two songs are cut from the show, the cost savings would be significant production wise and what not. And I am sure the elimination of at least two songs in the show makes a difference if an individual is performing 5 times a week for almost 5 years. I am sure songs like Have You Ever Been in Love and At Last were not meant to be on the set list for the entire duration of the show. Even then, Have You Ever Been in Love did not have a major production visually. Quote
remykyes Posted December 28, 2007 at 03:41 PM Posted December 28, 2007 at 03:41 PM I think your right about Have You Ever Been In Love. If you look at the visuals and what the dancers are doing, it's exactly the same thing when they added PQTME to the show: same visual and same dancer movements. Quote New Signature Coming Soon!
