LD1977 Posted December 11, 2007 at 09:12 PM Posted December 11, 2007 at 09:12 PM (edited) I know that there are topics about the new Las Vegas-DVD already, but I think it is worth to open a new topic for this one. I was wondering if you guys notice any striking things or maybe editing-mistakes on the DVD. I always think it is funny to discuss these things, because sometimes people see things I never saw and when someone tells me, I am thinking: how could I not see that??? First of all let me start with the comment that I just LOVE the DVD and I think they did a very good job. I did not notice any outstanding mistakes, like we had for example on the recordings of the Live a Paris-concert (where you saw Céline kiss Jean-Jacques Goldman while you heard her sing). But tonight I was watching the DVD again and I noticed something funny! During 'Love can move mountains' she is wearing the black suit with red belt and black boots. These boots are not very high and a bit shiny. When I was in Vegas in September she was wearing much higher boots, just under her knee and they were more tight to her legs and not as shiny as the ones on the DVD. I was just thinking that I loved these boots more, when I saw them! Right after she smelled in Elija's shirt and says: "Rrrr, thats love!" she runs into the direction of the audience, like she will come off the stage. And that's where she is wearing the higher boots! I did not look at the other songs where she is wearing these clothes, so maybe it happens more times, but I thought it was really funny that I noticed it. And in the category striking things: did you all notice the dancer that turns around really fast in 'River deep, mountain high', making a kind of waterballet with his sweat? I swear, you need an umbrella (ella, ella, ella) when you are dancing next to him! OnlyCeline Posted December 11, 2007 at 09:42 PM Posted December 11, 2007 at 09:42 PM (edited) I noticed lot of mistakes too! the make up (from I Surrender, PQTME etc)... In The Disc 1 (The A New Day Show) she gave the rose ((after the MHWGO performance)) to a fan who's wearing black dress or something, but in the Disc 2 (All Access) she gave the rose to a woman who's wearing red dress. Huh!?Gosh my mum and our neighbour cried while watching "The Secrets" of A New Day... I'm So Speechlesssssss.... keny Posted December 11, 2007 at 10:42 PM Posted December 11, 2007 at 10:42 PM Love the DVD also but, how about this one Opening song, at the end, the theater goes black. SO black you can't even see your hands in your lap (if you recall), yet, The camera pans the audience and it almost looks like it was shot outdoors on a sunny day. But ruins the intro into TPOL. You know, that spotlight event that the camera caught from the nose-bleed section. The camera should have been right in her face with her first word. I guess it could never be like a front row seat. quand méme Quote

celinemaniac07 Posted December 11, 2007 at 10:53 PM Posted December 11, 2007 at 10:53 PM Ok let me first start off by saying that this DVD is an incredible document of the show. Its an amazing capture of the show. Sure it was filmed over 5 days and they intertwined all 5 nights into this one 93 minute concert..so of course there are gonna be a few widescreen shots and other things that wont match up. Again let me say that I am extremley happy with how the dvd turned out..i was alittle worried to be quite honest. I wanted this to represent the show as best as possible..and it does..for the most part. I definitely have a few quips. The editing is good..very good actually, but there are lots of little mistakes they left very visible. First..watch ANDHC..when celine first starts walking towards the audience from the screen..her hand is up on her stomach, then camera show widescreen-celines hand is down, then back to closeup-hand is back up near black belt..its no big deal, but it shows its not the same performance..to me its jarring. Then as someone said earlier it goes pitch black after ANDHC, but then it shows the audience clapping in bright lights. Then it goes black and shows celine in the white outfit. I agree that it ruins the effect of celine in black then 7 seconds later shes in a white costume..its a very cool effect in the show thats lost here. Infact the audience shots after ANDHC is probably edited from another part of the show. So I am alittle disappointed about that. There are little editing mistakes in POL, BYLM..but there is one I couldnt believe. In Im Alive- when she sings..I cant wait for the rest of my life..and gives a dancer a high five..you hear her sing the part but her mouth is closed! Its VERY obvious. I can deal with the small mistakes, but not the big ones like that..it truly takes away from it. I drove all night had one or two consistency editing mistakes...no big deal..Seduces me seemed perfect. If I could seemed perfect editing wise...pour que tu maimes encore had many widescreen editing errors (dealing with consistency) I surrender..look on the screen...her arm is up then down then up. I guess those are my biggest editing gripes, but these are all errors that COULD have been easily fixed..they could have zoomed in, put another shot in their place(and we know from the various trailers and clips that there have been all kinds of edits to the songs ex. I drove all night, River Deep) Bottom line is that at many parts you can tell its not from just one performance..and you just kinda have to be good with the fact it is basically an assembled dvd of performances from 5 nights. I know this may annoy some of you that I am being nitpicky, but this is the ultimate document of the show and it annoys me that these obvious editing errors could have been fixed. This dvd was filmed almost a YEAR ago. Plenty of time to take care of that. Regardless I am still extremely happy with the how the DVD turned out. It is infact amazing. Thanks for reading my mini novel. Quote

Alex_Incognito Posted December 12, 2007 at 03:42 AM Posted December 12, 2007 at 03:42 AM Not a surprise at all. She can't keep the same hand motions. If you've seen Madonna's Ciao Italia video, you'll notice much more editing errors! One night she's wearing a necklace, one night she doesn't. Plus the footage just looks different each night, but the DVD is all put on one. Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990

CelineFanInSoCal Posted December 12, 2007 at 09:12 AM Posted December 12, 2007 at 09:12 AM I got mine today. First off, let me say that I did NOT get my copy from The Boutique as promised [shipped via UPS], rather I had to go buy it at BestBuy [it was not at the 3 Wal-Marts, the 2 Circuity Cities I went to did not have it. I live in San Diego CA] Anyway... it's not the first time I have multiple copies of her stuff. I was there during the recording of the show, on the last night only. I can see myself in the audience in a few places... wahoo... On the last night, Rene was introduced by one of the dancers prior to the show starting, and asked us to pretend as though he were Celine, who had just finished our favorite songs. The filmed the audience clapping and doing a standing ovation with the house lights on, which were to be used later on during editing. Rene told us they had to do this because the house was so dark during the show, they had no usable footage of the audience from the previous 4 recordings. I have watched the entire DVD package twice already. LOL The show itself was a pretty great representation of what happened in Vegas, though obviously edited for home viewing [different shots of Celine, the dancers, audience, etc. ] The Fan Tribute took my breathe away. I was literally crying like a little school girl. I had to pause it a couple times to compose. We Celine fans are the best, just like she's the best. Being the fan of such a real artist like Celine speaks to who we are as people... All Access was awesome. I liked how they paired what was happening backstage to what's going on during the show. Again, awesome! The secrets were pretty cool... neat to know how much all the dancers really appreciate Celine, too. Celine is such a hoot... she's sucha funny gal. Im watching the bonus DVD that came with the "Wal-Mart Exclusive Taking Chances Package" The package is the standard album and a DVD with the recording studio sessions for 6 songs:-That's Just The Woman In Me-Alone-A Song For You-Surprise Surprise-A World To Believe In Happy Holidays. Oh, I think this was my first post on here... HI!!! Quote
rhapsodion Posted December 12, 2007 at 10:44 AM Posted December 12, 2007 at 10:44 AM I love the DVD! Seeing what she has been through, and listening to what others say about her, just makes me admire her even more. As for editing mistakes, I have only watched the All Access and Secret part, haven't had a chance to watch Disc 1 yet. From Disc 2, I noticed 2 minor un-match editing spots. 1) When Celine goes on stage getting ready to start the show with ANDHC, since the stage was so dark, it shows how Celine uses the tip of her shoes to check how far out she is on the moving platform. Then it shows from the back angle, seeing Celine walks down from the moving platform on to the stage and starts singing. But then in the next shot with front angle, it shows Celine still standing on the moving platform. 2) When Celine was putting on her black spanish-outfit, a lady was helping Celine to slip her feet into her shoes. Then Celine said something like "not in yet, not in yet", and she padded the lady's back with her left hand. But in the next shot, it shows Celine pointing down with her right hand. These are the two spots that I noticed, nothing big. Quote
LD1977 Posted December 12, 2007 at 11:16 AM Author Posted December 12, 2007 at 11:16 AM I have to say the things with the hands up and down and changing poses do not bother me that much. Céline moves around all the time during the show and she does not keep her arm up for minutes. So it is possible that her arm is up in one shot and more down in the next. I do not think many people will notice this. What does bother me, is that sometimes they show her close-up and you see her face, but the above of her head is missing. Her hair, to be precize. I also noticed that in the The secrets-part when they interviewed René. The top of his head was missing sometimes (not his hair, since he does not have any ). I don't know if I have to set up my tv differently or if this is the way they taped it. Did anyone else notice it? coke21 Posted December 12, 2007 at 03:43 PM Posted December 12, 2007 at 03:43 PM Hello to all… I appear, I am of the Spanish section of this great diva of the music that is Celine Dion, and want to do a consultation to them with respect to the DVD To “A New Day Live In Las Vegas”. Alive in Chile, the DVD has lamentably not been sent in my country and therefore I want it to request to the United States, but I want to know if the DVD that is commercialized in that country brings subtitles in Spanish… please would be thankful that they clarified my doubt Quote http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/3848/dibujoresize.jpg

keny Posted December 12, 2007 at 05:23 PM Posted December 12, 2007 at 05:23 PM (edited) Love the DVD as well and appreciate all the hard work, but as a fan, and that is why this video was made, they did miss some key elemental moments. Glaring omissions? Or just not in touch with Celine's style. don't know. Non fans would not notice these omissions... that being said. But, if We had been in charge of planning the camera angles? I'm just saying... 2 cents worth... As mentioned at the end of ANDHC, that's just a glaring mistake there. That is such a dramatic moment and intro into TPOL. The other that "should have" been caught and fixed was having the camera on Celine on every high and long note. They seem to always break away to a wide shot just after she starts the note, and then do a pan and scan of the stage, and then back to Celine just as the note finishes. I hate that!! I love the expressions on Celine's face when she does those signature notes. They did this on ANDHC at the end, TPOL at the end, I'm Alive at the end, IDAN at the high note, Ammore Annsscunnuto at the end, LCMM while lying on the floor singing opening notes, (saw that in the front row a year ago and that was incredible. she was lying down in front of you 5 feet away ) MHWGO at the end. I may have missed one but those are very important moments in each song and the camera work should have taken those moments into consideration. All in all it's a great DVD, but I think they moved around to much. It's nice to see some of the stuff you don't see when you are transfixed on Celine in the front rows, but not that much. The only really good long steady shots of Celine was when she was on stage with no dancer's in the background. They had no choice but to hang with her as the center of interest. After thought. I noticed that in the "realtime" all access version of the show, they had much better closeups of Celine in most songs but especially singing Ammore Annsscunnuto. They were actually walking with her in her intro, not watching her enter stage left as in the DVD shows. Edited December 12, 2007 at 05:25 PM by keny Quote
fred Posted December 12, 2007 at 05:42 PM Posted December 12, 2007 at 05:42 PM And in the category striking things: did you all notice the dancer that turns around really fast in 'River deep, mountain high', making a kind of waterballet with his sweat? I swear, you need an umbrella (ella, ella, ella) when you are dancing next to him! I know that was gross, not even Whitney can sweat that much. I thought "oh, he must have trown water on his head to create that effect", but at the same second - why would anyone want to create that effect?! On the other hand they put a lot of focus on it so perhaps it's directed, who knows - what an odd effect if so... "river deep.." and he's like: "I'm starting a river here right now!" /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
