Need help from the computer experts!

My computer had 128mb memory. I installed 256mb memory stick in addition to the 128mb memory. Everything was fine until I had to have the motherboard replaced last Spring. Now the computer does not detect/use the 256mb memory, only the original 128mb memory. Do I need to remove that memory stick and reinstall it? Is there any other way to get the computer to use/detect that memory. The 256mb memory is shown as being "not used" when I use Everest to get info about the computer. Yes, try reinstalling the stick. But it may also be that the new RAM stick does not work with the new mainboard at all.

Generally speaking 2 different sizes of ram shouldn't be used together, at least thats what I've been told in the past, depending on the motherboard that is used it is often that the memory in the first slot (in a case like that) will be used. I'm not very good at explaining it... maybe switch the two is what I'm trying to say, otherwise just use the 256 on its own...
