Prince Whiskers Posted November 19, 2007 at 12:57 PM Posted November 19, 2007 at 12:57 PM (edited) NOTICE: Please bear with me as this is quite a long post. 1. Release "Alone" to AC stations.2. Release "I Got Nothin' Left" or "Fade Away" to pop stations. "Alone" - They need to send this song to the AC market to keep the older Celine fans happy. If this was the first single instead of TC, we would now be looking at a respectable European hit and a top 10 if not top 5 US hit on the AC charts. Modern production (Ben Moody's arrangement is the best on the album IMHO) but also with the trademark bombastic vocals that Celine's older fans are always looking for. I know it's a remake and everything but we can't deny the good response on iTunes. And now to the more interesting part...the pop stations. Honestly, does EOM really have what it takes to fight off forthcoming releases from "cooler" divas like Mimi, Esther, Whit or JJ? I'm sure their new songs will be as "cool" as any song can get. Pulling a Beyonce or Shakira won't help Celine get in a DECENT amount of airplay when that diva competition comes around. Celine, I think, needs to rely on modern collaboration or sheer musicality not necessarily to beat them but to at least keep them within her sights. "I Got Nothin' Left" (modern collaboration) - I really believe in this song. An updated RNB ballad that progresses effortlessly. The music is fluid and it doesn't try too hard unlike EOM or CFTF. Celine's "unique" vocals are what makes this song interesting along with Ne-Yo's suave background singing. We all know how shallow pop stations can get so the song getting billed as "Celine feat. Ne-Yo" (don't mention the "uncool" Dion LOL) just MIGHT help Celine get some decent attention in pop stations. A music video feat. Ne-Yo won't be bad either. Of course, there will be some calling Celine a sellout but it's not like she's doing a sequel to "Irreplaceable" or even "Hate that I Love You", right? This is a Celine moving with the times without surrendering her commanding voice or snatching the sound of a current hitmaker. If not IGNL then "Fade Away" (sheer musicality) - Forget the inevitable Kelly Clarkson comparisons. This song is a NATURAL HIT. A natural hit in the sense that it will connect with the masses instantly. I'm almost sure that even the self-avowed Celine "haters" will be hearing this song outside the knowledge of their friends. Ha ha . FA is a semi-classic soft rock song, if you ask me. This could give Celine her first bonafide hit in the US since........the Jurassic era!!! She must release this at one time or another, or Clive Davis just might use his influence to put this song on the next Kelly album!!! So what do you saaaayyyyyy?? Meow, meow. Esty Posted November 19, 2007 at 02:15 PM Posted November 19, 2007 at 02:15 PM Too bad you don't work for Sony or Celine... Quote
Kyle_Jared Posted November 19, 2007 at 02:42 PM Posted November 19, 2007 at 02:42 PM Boy do I ever agree with you!! "I got nothin' left" could be marketed as "Featuring Ne-Yo" on the single....plus this the song the media will jump all over given his name is on it, he sings background AND produced it. Plus, its a fantastic song. This could do well on all formats "Fade away" is a no brainer for a single. Really, its IMMEDIATELY catchy and if Sony or celines camp read this board they'd see the consensus that we ALL AGREE . But if for some frigged up reason they have there hopes pinned on Eyes on Me or Alone......go with Alone if you have to pick. I GUARANTEE you Eyes on me will go no where. Why don't they listen to the fans......put 4 or 5 singles on the website and allow us to vote??? Quote
Nando Férri Posted November 19, 2007 at 03:49 PM Posted November 19, 2007 at 03:49 PM I love "IGNL" but I can't agree with you. It's a ballad song. I just can't see how it could work. But I keep FADE AWAY! Quote http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4ejungtQy1r9swpco6_250.gif
salsacolin Posted November 19, 2007 at 05:38 PM Posted November 19, 2007 at 05:38 PM (edited) If I were sony I would pull a "THE REASON" in the Uk and get Alone to all station ASAP and market it as the 2nd single. Use the studio video if need be as its never hurt her in the past for The Reason, Im Your Angel, or Immortality. A proper Alone video can be made when she gets a chance. I would then ensure the Audience With Celine is shown in a couple of weeks with the Alone single released physically in December with TC as a b-side and a completely new track. It may not get to number 1 but it would sell the album over Christmas. I have a feeling it would do rather well. Its a song everyone loves and its clear taht its the one everyone is downloading from the album and most people I know love it. I heard the original Heart version yesterday and it sounds so OLD - I think people will rediscover the song. Especially in the UK where covers are done constantly. In January / February I would then release Fade Away to coincide with the start of the tour. If anything I would keep Eyes on Me for the Summer as teh rock songs suit winter. Cesdra Posted November 19, 2007 at 08:00 PM Posted November 19, 2007 at 08:00 PM I think Eyes on me is a perfect single. I liked it from the start and it has full single potential. So does Fade Away and Shadow of Love but that's just IMO. Eyes on me is a good choice. As for Alone - somewhere down the road because it's a cover song, a good one but nothing new and original. Let's be "Celine" and only "Celine" before singling cover songs!!!!! Quote
takingchances83 Posted November 19, 2007 at 08:09 PM Posted November 19, 2007 at 08:09 PM I agree that eyes on me is a bad choice for the single no 2 It should be in summer. This Time with a powerful video should be the next single or alone or fade away , also cant fight the feeling is brilliant, i love the chorus, Either of these should be single no2. id also like to hear i got nothing left get a release its so unique and cool. and i love ne yos vocals on it. Prince Whiskers Posted November 20, 2007 at 08:25 AM Author Posted November 20, 2007 at 08:25 AM (edited) I CAN'T believe some of you here are proposing CFTF as a single!!!!!!!!! Maybe it's fun and everything but it's just sooooooo.....un-Celine!!!! Too playful and all those rowdy notes???!!! Not to mention that the lyrics are some of the cheesiest on the album! Alone, IGNL and FA are the best songs to go with bec. while they are modernized sounds, they still bear the usual big, dramatic vocalizing of Celine!!! Come on, we just can't ignore the typical Celine fans, can we? The three songs that I have mentioned strike the PERFECT BALANCE bet. attracting non-fans and retaining the loyalty of Celine's traditional fans!!! Now, I know that IGNL is a ballad but it's not like those ballads that Celine came up with in the 90's!!!! Those ballads we used to hear were very strenous, THEATRICALLY emotional, aria-like in terms of atmosphere. IGNL has a cozier , more fluid, more DOWN-TO-EARTH , LESS IMPOSING tone to it !!!! IGNL's THEME maybe just as dramatic as the 90's ballads but not in PRESENTATION!!! IT DOESN'T GET TOO DIVA-ISH until towards the end where Celine is just incredibly producing all those high notes very reminiscent of her FIY days!!! And let's all remember that this song is RNB and not dormant-as-of-the-moment pop!!! MARK MY WORD, the billing "Celine feat. Ne-Yo" will encourage top 40 stations to add it to their playlist even without SCF's around here faking their nationalities, multiplying their e-mail addresses, and overtaxing their clicking fingers!!! A music video feat. Ne-Yo will prevent the kind of relative indifference to the video for TC. (Ne-Yo better agree to appear with Celine or else I'll take over the universe and declare those perky hats as 100% illegal!!) I'm really afraid that EOM might not work bec. of the SEXED-UP presentation that this song demands. Celine will never and should nevet go the Beyonce and Shakira route! We all know why! Do you think the general public will accept Celine just like that? It's not like she ever did something that says, "This is my investment for the sultry singing that my comeback song will have." She's all over the place talking about Maria Callas, for goodness' sake!! Somebody more "uncool' and "unsexy" than her!! This is the Celine who celebated without reserve the mush factor on Oprah!!! All this and the fact that EOM is too multi-layered to be a top 40 hit nowadays! All this said, I'm still leaning towards FA for the top 40 stations simply bec. I like it better! But "Alone" HAS to be relased in Europe and American AC market where this powerful remake just screams hit!! So what do you saaayyyyy??? Meow, meow. Prince Whiskers Posted November 22, 2007 at 06:05 AM Author Posted November 22, 2007 at 06:05 AM (edited) Oh yeah, "Fade Away" indeed has a trace of "Since U Been Gone" but the melody of Celine's song is more memorable! And it's more emotionally accessible, if you know what I mean. And just 2 questions about this song: 1. Is it possible to listen to FA without bopping your head and tapping your feet? 2. FA is best played at FULL VOLUME, right? And for the sake of Mimi's melons (honestly), can we please, please, lay off the "IGNL is a ballad" line of reasoning? IGNL is RNB Celine-Ne-yo, not an overwrought, past-its-time, let's-sink-the-Titanic Celine-Foster/Warren POP ballad.
