celinefan1985 Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:26 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:26 PM We are all adults here and it is safe to say that, besides a few markets, TC was a great commerical dissapointment in terms of a comeback single. Hate to say I told you so, but told you so. Moving forward the focus has to be to get radio to play Celine's next single. If the single does not get picked up, things will go downhill fast. Let's not kid ourselves, record companies are in it for the money. When an artist is no longer commercially viable, they get promoted less, and sell even less, and so on and so forth... That is why it is imperative to choose the RIGHT next single. Doesn't have to be the BEST one, but the right one. Eyes on me and Alone are not the right ones! The same thing happened to Mimoo when her first "comeback" single flopped. But she redeeemed herself big time with a massive second single and they album sales skyrocketed. We all know by now that Sony focuses on album sales but as we have seen with the past few releases, Celine will have huge first week numbers and then fall off the radar. I realize it is not "cool" to like Celine Dion anymore (was it ever ) but this album, from what I have heard so far, can go a long way to make her music popular again. BUT THEY MUST CHOOSE THE RIGHT SINGLE AND GET IT PLAYED. Again, Eyes on me and Alone will not do it! And remember, she's got a heck of a lot of concert tickets to sell... Quote

celinefan1985 Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:37 PM Author Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:37 PM In retrospect, TC was a good "radio friendly" song but it was not HIT material. Celine needs a hit. They focus so much on everyone else's opinion but never really bother asking the fans. They are aware of our existence (on this forum and others), why don't they innovate and have a contest to choose the next single. I know we could do better than chossing Goodbye's the Saddest Word or Have you ever been in love or You and I, when much better choices existed!!! Quote
celinefanonline Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:37 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:37 PM as i said before this album won't be as big as we hoped for this year...but next year... after the tour begins..!!! the album will be huge!!! and hopefully every station or tv channel will play the video! tcherno Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:39 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:39 PM this time is great as a song but the theme is so serious, so she needs something light and fresh like EYES ON ME. the 2nd single from ANDHC was for Lundin, and it seems that this will happen again with Eyes on ME. shadow of love looks great also and it is something fresh. TC need to do some polls on the net so the fans can choose the next single. Quote
krazy_kool_dude Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:40 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 12:40 PM Celine must release This Time and Eyes On Me. Both have reasons, Ben Moody on one, Delta Goodrem on the other. I've seen lots of articles about Eyes On Me over on Australian websites so if she does a music video she should get Delta featured! As for This Time, Celine should perhaps release it under the name "Celine Dion Featuring Ben Moody". Quote http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/4136/siggyju5.jpg
Daysleeper Posted November 2, 2007 at 01:08 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 01:08 PM It's been a while since I posted on this forum last time, but I read it often and I can'tresist to comment these news about Taking Chances album. Taking Chances is a nice radio friendly song that should have been released as a single before orlater. It shows us a "new" Celine and opens a promotion of this new album in symbolic way.I can't judge the album from the 30 sec clips, and it's still hard to tell which song should bereleased as next single. At the moment, only one has a potential to become a hit in my opinionand it is THIS TIME. I doubt in Eyes On Me... Quote
Frida Posted November 2, 2007 at 01:23 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 01:23 PM I think that Fade away would be the most successful choice for a swedish radion station like RIXFM and if would definitely help the album sales, I honestly don't think that Eyes on me, Shadow of love or This time would be good... at least not on swedish radio Quote http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p234/celinedion_56/tcc2copy3_zps08f18352.pnghttp://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p234/celinedion_56/tccgallery-1.png
Immensité Posted November 2, 2007 at 01:37 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 01:37 PM I definitely think that the next single should be a ballad-or an uptempo-ballad(maybe "New Dawn"-if that's a ballad...??I don't know yet-because I haven't heard the full version.) She's known for her voice and ballads(like "My heart will go on ","Because you loved me","The power of love","Think twice" etc.)And they were all ballads, and they were all played on the radio-all the time. So I definitely think it should be a ballad as next single-maybe "Alone" isn't a bad choice after all...?? Quote

Tal Posted November 2, 2007 at 02:21 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 02:21 PM But I think TC was a good song choice. Its really catchy and radio friendly and everyone I played it for (non-celine fans) really liked it as well. I hate to say it but I think a big part of the problem was the fact that it was Celine. Her reputation preceeds her. Look at what that intern from z100 said...people like the song but as soon as they hear its Celine they get turned off. Even Sony knew that and took the song to stations as "Mystery Artist". Its sad but its true. Javier_Natalio Posted November 2, 2007 at 02:28 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 02:28 PM I think the THIRD single will redeem the album (This Time, Fade Away, My Love, who knows!). Let the second one be Alone, it'll be alright. Quote
fred Posted November 2, 2007 at 03:10 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 03:10 PM Well mr Joey, I too told ya so! Now don't call me a hater! Could we please chill with the melodrama for two sec? And I too have underlined the importance of choosing the right singles, it is no news! And it is no news that they keep on doing the other way around. Why? Probably because they're old fashioned living in a little buble and yessayers nodding to their every whim - you have proof on the recording session when Céline mentiones the woman in me talk, everybody says "yepp, ya, that's a good title for the album"... And making the fans choose the singles, works really well in theory, but look someone has alread brought it up already in this tread - A World To Believe In. It goes the opposite direction to what is needed to achieve what this thread is about. So all in all, it would probably be best to let the non-fans who listen to all kinds of music with a critical ear, knowing what they like an knowing what works and don't, choose the single. My two cents. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
cannonball Posted November 2, 2007 at 04:13 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 04:13 PM I don't think her whole commercial viability hinges on one single. Sony represents plenty of artists that don't bring in the huge album sales. The days of people selling 16 million albums in a week are LONG over. I think Sony understands that. Sony Epic represents Tori Amos too, and her last album only sold about 50,000 copies the first week and still managed to hit #5 on the charts. If you think Celine gets no promotion you should see Tori's promotion. Her single didn't get play anywhere and she still managed to hit #5. Celine's never going to sell like she did in the 90s. It's just not going to happen. When artists hit a certain age and certain point in their career sales are going to decline. She's got a built in fan base that ill buy her album whether they hear the single or not. Elaine Posted November 2, 2007 at 04:32 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 04:32 PM as i said before this album won't be as big as we hoped for this year...but next year... after the tour begins..!!! the album will be huge!!! and hopefully every station or tv channel will play the video! I agree with you! This album will really set the world on fire when Céline goes on tour! But I also agree on the fact that they pick the wrong singles most of the time... Taking chances in my opinion was a good one, but I don't think Alone will be a good choice. I have some friends who are not totally crazy about her as I am, and when I showed them Eyes on me they said it's strange to their ears, so I'm guessing many think like they do.Therefore, I don't vote Eyes on me either. But it's difficult to talk about any other song as a single as we haven't heard the album completely yet. With only 55 seconds we can't say if a song is good or bad. We may be let down sometimes. But my faith is still strong that they'll choose right this time... Let's sit and wait. Quote http://img807.imageshack.us/img807/1352/opo3.jpg
MTJ Posted November 2, 2007 at 04:49 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 04:49 PM (edited) In perspective to other artists, celines albums are still some of the best selling. She's an asset to Sony. I definitly agree that these two are not the best single oppertunites, and I agree the album may end up like D'elles (a flop), but as for the tour.... The tickets in England are upwards of 700 pounds! NO new fan would pay that much to go a concert, it will be the die-hard fans from IACBTMN and MHWGO times that sell it out. and like celine said, she feels comfortable with this album and she did it for her sake, because she wanted to try something, not to get number 1 Edited November 2, 2007 at 04:55 PM by imgoingtobiteyoure_face Quote
jjlovescéline Posted November 2, 2007 at 08:00 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 08:00 PM What is 700 lb in US dollars? Just curious! I agree with Fred that it would take a non-fan or a fan that isn't as die hard as all of us are for Céline to pick a good single. Because, I love all the songs on this album and think they all would be good as a single! I'm really surprised the "Taking Chances" single didn't do so well because I think this song is great! And, I can't believe D'Elles was a "flop" as someone said here. Is that true? Because this album totally rocks! I really feel sorry for non-Céline fans. They are missing out "big time"! Ha ha! Quote

It is true that the right singles are important but Celine has had more exposure in terms of TV that more people probably have heard it that might have if it had better airplay. It's not ideal but I think its a good song and many non celine fans do like it. I think Sony were trying to have a "safer" first single to make the most of her fanbase. So TC appeals to the fanbase but hints at the rest of the album. TC is not over yet and the exposure will go up after the album release because that is where a lot of the promo will be done. I do agree with you that Alone and Eyes on me will not be the songs to make it for her. Alone is a cover great to use as album promo but not single material. Eyes On Me is good and might work but I think its too weak a production like I'm Alive it needs more meat. If someone like Timbaland rather than Lundin had produced it would have serious beats but it sounds quite cheap to me. Quote I never even knew the song the orchestra was playing........ KimboCosmo Posted November 2, 2007 at 08:59 PM Posted November 2, 2007 at 08:59 PM People need to quit worrying about what song is Celines 2nd single. All of them are great, and I personally love them equally. Anyone who hears any of them would be amazed. The woman is pure talent, and nothing will ever take that away from her. I've had a ton of non Celine fan friends come up to me and tell me they LOVE Alone and Eyes On Me, so there is nothing wrong with those. celinerific Posted November 3, 2007 at 05:13 AM Posted November 3, 2007 at 05:13 AM Hmmmm. "Taking Chances", in my opinion, was a great choice as a first single. It's doing so well here. Now... Sony must be super wise on their next single selection. If they are to release another single, I think a wise choice would be "This Time", "Fade Away", or "Shadow Of Love". "Eyes On Me" would probably do well on the more "modern" stations, but not so much in the Adult Contemporary stuff. miracle_girl Posted November 3, 2007 at 01:33 PM Posted November 3, 2007 at 01:33 PM I think that its very hard now days to acctually pick a song that is going to do well every whereUnless your in your mid 20's blonde hair and have big breasts In the Uk i know that the music over here has changed dramatically since the release of Miracle and ANDHCwhich done surprisingly well.... The Uk Music scene is a bit more Indie rock (with the exception of Leona,,, who's famous from The Xfactor)And even though Celine has gone for a more edgy look and sound,,, she was once known as the "Titanic Singer"So its pretty much safe to say that in the UK i think she should focus more on selling Albums!! Im not sure with other countries though I know that the USA Has loads of different chartsand they love R'N'B music But im not even going to suggest how well she will do there because she does better there than she does here!! And we all know that she will do well in france no matter what she releases!! I think that,,even if her singles flop,,, The album will do pretty well!!and aslong as her fans buy her tickets who cares??? Celinenvegas Posted November 3, 2007 at 05:47 PM Posted November 3, 2007 at 05:47 PM Let TC PLEASE first run its course! Céline is now in full swing promoting it so it isn't dead quite yet. I totally agree, it's working it's way up and Celine is out there promoting the heck outta the song and the cd. She'll be all over the place this month and that'll give the single and album a HUGE push in stores and at radio. She's never been a big "singles" artist & Sony has never promoted her that way, that's why her album sales are so high. In the US they hardly ever release commercial singles for her. Heck Sony didn't even wanna release one for MHWGO but did reluctantly then only released a limited amount. I think the reviews for the album will be GREAT and it'll make it's way up the charts and intopeoples hearts because it's solid. As far as singles go, I do think Sony is looking at "Alone" for a single. It's a great song but I hope they don't. It's better as an album track. I'd like to see Fade Away, Can't Fight The Feeling. or This Time as singles from the cd. I think This Time would make an awesome video but the song may be a little too filled with issues to be a Celine single. It would be "taking a chance" though! Quote ~J O E Y~

Shaun Posted November 4, 2007 at 12:12 AM Posted November 4, 2007 at 12:12 AM It is of course not fair to confirm that the single "Taking Chances" is a flop just yet. It hasn't even had its commercial release in some countries yet and Celine has still to hit the promotional trail in the USA. Give it time. I totally agree though that careful consideration and thought must be given to the next couple of singles, not just the 2nd one. Whoever chooses singles for Celine has made some catastrophic errors in recent times and Celine is an artist well known for her successful singles so something has gone wrong somewhere. "Taking Chances" has so much potential to sell and sell and sell in the long term but only, and I mean only, on the basis that the correct singles are chosen. Celine will sell loads of albums during week 1 and 2 around the world but the last 5 years will tell as that she very very very quickly falls away and down the charts. It's no coincidence that her subsequent singles have all been flops. Did Goodbye's The Saddest Word, or even Immensite, do ANYTHING for the respective albums they were on? There were far better choices on both of those albums and therefore greater scope for the album to sell more. Celine is crying out for a hit record globally, her last hit single around the world was probably "A New Day Has Come." She's got the hype, she's got the voice and she's got a stellar album on the way. Now Sony must pick the right songs to promote it. krazy_kool_dude Posted November 20, 2007 at 12:45 PM Posted November 20, 2007 at 12:45 PM Sony must also get radios to play the songs - i believe they once did this with Mariah, not they're gonna have to do it with Celine. Get them to play the new single once every few hours or something. Quote http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/4136/siggyju5.jpg
