Davey84 Posted October 22, 2007 at 08:43 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 08:43 PM cos the Album thread is getting toward 220 pages and 1000 different discussions, I thought that I'd make a real review thread of the songs, cos they are now (being) posted on TC and the D'Elles songs had them too! And we can talk in the album thread about the album.. alone Alone is the second track on the album, and of course the cover of Heart, the lyrics from Hearts Alone: I hear the ticking of the clockI'm lying here, the room's pitch darkI wonder where you are tonightNo answer on the telephoneAnd the night goes by so very slowOh I hope that it won't end thoughAlone Til now I always got by on my ownI never really cared until I met youAnd now it chills me to the boneHow do I get you aloneHow do I get you alone You don't know how long i have wanted to touch your lips and hold you tightYou don't know how long I have waitedand I was going to tell you tonightBut the secret is still my ownand my love for you is still unknownAlone Til now I always got by on my ownI never really cared until I met youAnd now it chills me to the boneHow do I get you aloneHow do I get you aloneAloneAlone When I heard it on the making of, I didn't really care for it, but now hearing it in better quality on TC, I find it more special, a song that will grow on me... and a great song to sing/shout along with! I'm really curious how the whole song will sound... I didn't listen to the mp3 of the making of Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
Tal Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:06 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:06 PM Ok, here's what I think... This song was always going to be 'damned if she does, damned if she dont' for me. Alone is one of my most favorite songs of all time.....ever. I've loved it since it came out and it came out when I was a child, so its basically been my entire life; before I even knew who Celine was. Its always been on my list of songs I'd love to hear Celine sing (tied at #1 with Roxette's It Must Have Been Love). I just think I would have preferred if she had done it as a live performance rather then a song on an album. I think for the most part Ben Moody did a great job giving this song a new sound and atmosphere. The music box at the beginning and end of the track is a fantastic touch, and gives the song a nice dark mood. I didn't like that he cut the small musical break before she screams out that "oooh". Maybe I feel that way because I'm so used to the original version, but to me it just seems like that scream comes out of no where. Vocally speaking, it falls short for me on the emotional level. Obviously those last two "aloooone" belts are ridiculously powerful and send shivers up your spine. But in the beginning, when she should sound vunerable and broken, she instead sounds more mechanical and detached. The entire part where she's singing "no answer on the telephone. and the night goes by so very slow. oh i hope that it wont end though. alone...." Its all sung on the same level...no cracks in the voice, no color, no vunerability in the voice. I wish she would have delivered this vocal the way she delivered 'Us' with a bit of the sadness from OSEAAC. I still love this song, because Celine definitely has the power to pull this off and sound amazing and I also love the music box arrangement. But emotionally, it falls short, especially considering what an amazing job Ann did. Quote I live my life like a runawayI hide my dreams in a special placeI'm waiting here for my prince to comeTo save me from the darkness...
Thomas Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:14 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:14 PM I like the song, apart from some parts when she sounds really shrill. Like when she sings the first chorus of "Till now, I always got by..." and "...and now it chills me to the bone..." it's a bit piercing and screamy. I really don't like it when she sings this way, I'd rather she was nasal and goaty than shrill like a banshee. Quote

I still love this song, because Celine definitely has the power to pull this off and sound amazing and I also love the music box arrangement. But emotionally, it falls short, especially considering what an amazing job Ann did. So eloquent. What's left to say besides RIGHT ON POINT. Had she sung it with the vulnerability of OSAAC ("...dont on est revenu, comme Adam et comme Eve du paradis perdu"...) it would have been amazing. Despite the fact that Celine's English has gotten so much better over the years, the footage of the recording sessions brought to light to me, for the first time, that Celine doesn't always get the phrasing. Like in This Time when she sings "You call this love", she sings it so mechanically rather than signing "you call this LOVE?". I too have always loved Alone and I really feel that it should be left Alone and not be released as a single. Quote
Kerry Elizabeth Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:28 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:28 PM I adore this song. I liked it when Heart sang it, and I like it with Celine. It could possibly be my favorite new song right now by Celine. I don't kow why, I just ADORE this song Quote Boston, August 12th & 13th 2008 & MSG, Sept 15th 2008, Montreal February 13th, 2009 Check out my Celine Videos From Boston and NYChttp://www.youtube.com/madison52578
Tal Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:31 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:31 PM I'd rather she was nasal and goaty than shrill like a banshee. THOMAS!! Don't dare speak these words!! Had she sung it with the vulnerability of OSAAC ("...dont on est revenu, comme Adam et comme Eve du paradis perdu"...) it would have been amazing. Yes! That part kills me every time! The whole song is just so emotional. I totally get what you mean about not completely understanding the phrasing. But you'd think the producer would tell her to do a retake and be a bit more vunerable. Maybe he was too afraid to say anything. Unlike Kara Quote I live my life like a runawayI hide my dreams in a special placeI'm waiting here for my prince to comeTo save me from the darkness...
Alex_Incognito Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:33 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:33 PM I've never heard the Heart version and never care to hear it! lol I really love it. It's so very much where I am in life right now , too, it's scary! Not everyone has heard it. This will definately be the ALL BY MYSELF of the album, and she worked wonders on that song. fred Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:34 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:34 PM What I think about this song? Well the original is superb and Céline really was heading for deep water by deciding to cover it. I was so looking forward to hear those marvellous pudel glamm rock guitarr arrangements. Instead we got a rather cheap pop rock electric mainstream sound to it. Making me think of the instrumentations which goes for debuing artists who does a cover of a well known song as their first and only hit. Céline's vocals diserved so much more than that. The instrumentals should had been fuller, more real - BIGGER. The orchestra sounds too synthetic and so does sadly the music box which is this tracks only really new feature. Sure Céline carried up the song vocally. She passed the test, and can't be bached for that. But she didn't bring anything new to it, didn't approach it in differently, didn't claim it, and for that she will be bashed if this song is released as a single. This song is as I have said earlier very fine, high quality as album fill out. But as single material, I would really think twice... And that is a shame, coz there are many other tracks on the album which you really don't have to think twice aout releasing as a single. Why wanna risk everything releasing Alone? I seriously don't get that. It's clear Céline and Réné wanna release this and the yessayers around them don't have the gutsto question it - we all see example onthat on the recording session when Céline comes up with the supposed title for the album (The Woman In Me).... /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
PrincesseJen Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:44 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 09:44 PM I do like this cover though I'm a tad bit partical to the orginial. The orginial was way more ROCK! This version isn't bad but I think it should NOT be a single. If Celine wants to take chances she needs to do a song that hasn't been heard before.I just don't think that many people will be impressed with another cover. Céline's Blues Posted October 22, 2007 at 10:29 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 10:29 PM Never believe what Céline is saying about certain album. It's not really a new Céline on it and I really really really would love to see how "Eyes On Me" would show off a different Céline if "Alone" can't? It's easy to criticize Alone cuzz it's a well known cover and all signs in the sky are pointing to a single release so I would be really supportive on this one. Its dark sounds, music box and celinized feel to it make it worthwhile. As long as she will promote the second single it's really not a grave issue for me concerning the choice. Cuzz this time around she will have to do it alooooooooooooooooooooone. Without any support from Sony. Only her and fans. And I happen to support her in every way if she happens to think against the hate wave that Alone is a right choice for a single. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
bluestar Posted October 22, 2007 at 10:33 PM Posted October 22, 2007 at 10:33 PM Alone is definetely a good song. But it won't be a hit for Celine. The album si suppoed to be more rock then why Ben Moody made it softer? With Taking Chances people will see a different side of Celine, that only fans knows, and Alone si not the right single to do it.It's a really nice song but nothing so different from the old Celine's songs and plus is a cover of a very famous hit, and this not helps. I'm glad we have it on this album anyway! Quote
Javier_Natalio Posted October 23, 2007 at 07:03 AM Posted October 23, 2007 at 07:03 AM (edited) Why would they be paying so much if they didn't plan to release it as a single? people first and foremost, Celine and Rene are business people! They are paying royalties to Heart just to record the song, then they paid through the nose to have Ben Moody produce it- you think they intend it to be album fill out? hum, think again.
