Interesting question about Celine's family

Recommended Posts

We all know about Celine's ancestry from her father's side, which is truly extensive and amazing. So far she is related to Camilla parker bowles, the current wife of prince Charles, Madonna, and Many quebec politicians such as Stephane Dion. My question or questions are what about her mother's side of the family. I hear that maman Dion, or Therese, who was born Tanguay, had a rather large family herself. The problem is that o one talks about her side of the family, just the dion paternal line which began with jean guyon 400 years ago. So i'm hoping someone can give me insight into her mother's side of the family and who she is related to from that side. One other question. I read on a website that celine's paternal grandmother was also of syrian background. is there any truth to this or not. I would like everyone to be a part of this topic because We have discussed her father's line before but not the mother's and her own notable descent from the Tanguay family. I hope everybody will participate.

This is a little "in-depth". Are you sure we should be digging this deep? :ermm:

To tell you the truth, I don't think its in depth because everyone knows about her father's side of the family and the desent and the famous people she is related too. All I am asking is if anyone knows about the genealogy regarding her mother's side of the family which I hear is large. Bellamy or koolan do you have any information regarding this? I think its an interesting topic

Genealogy is indeed very interesting. I'll be working on my own from next year on. But it's quite hard to do such an in dept research on Celine's family, it can take years and I don't see many people interested... or just don't have this much time to spare.

Hmm, this is a very unique topic. :) However, I do remember a long time ago, randomly coming across Céline's family tree on an ancestory site. I remember because I'm related to Céline, haha. It's on her dad's side if I remember, and I'm distantly related to her great-great-great-great-great grandparents! :D I didn't research any further than that, and haven't since - but that is interesting that there's not information on her mom's ancestory.

I have done some research in the genealogy forum and here's whats interesting. Celine's mother Therese Tanguay Dion, is the daughter of "Laureat Achille Tanguay and Antoinette Sergerie who were married Nov 18, 1913 Sayabec, Matapedia county, Quebec." Laureat Tanguay who is Celine's grandfather was the son of "Achille Tanguay and Malvina Parent married sept 5, 1876 Ancienne-Lorette, Qc" The tanguay line, which includes currently 15,000 Tanguay desendants. (talk about a family reunion) officially began in quebec with the marriage of Jean Tanguay and Marie Brochu, who were married in St-Jean de l'ile d'Orleans in 1692. Jean Tanguay's parents were both from france and their names were Yves Tanguay and Marguerite Ascaral. All the Tanguay's are descended from them. In fact whats interesting is that some of the branches of the dion and tanguay families spreaded out so much into the new england area, as well as some parts of upstate new york and ontario. The tanguay family included a famous vaudeville star by the name of Eva Tanguay, distant cousin to Celine since they are descended from the same tanguay branch that began in 1692, was one of the most important stars in early 20th century america. Apparently when broadway rolled in, she lost her career and died rather young. But apparently she was a fantastic performer, who had a great personality and who really made people smile. I think her picture can be found in the internet. I guess the Tanguay family is known for stardom, two big stars in one family, in the same century only 60/70 years apart. Well 15,000 living and dead descendants of the tanguays are recorded. And I guess thats the best I can do for now with her mother's history. The problem that i have is that i could only go back to her great grandfather "achille Tanguay" but it doesn't go back until it reaches the first quebec tanguays. Well i did the best i could for now. Amazing history

I'm definitely interested in this, but I doubt I'll end up doing any research.
