I want it to mean that the last love is the first and I think it means that but I'm not sure-so I'm asking you... Forgive me for this really stupid question-but it's a poem so it could be hard to construe... Please-someone who has french as their first language must know exactly...(or anyone else that knows for sure) I'd be so grateful to anyone who has an answer... Quote

The writer has their own personal intent, but to many others it has different meanings that even the writer may not have considered & realized later. Listen, take the line and think about how it makes you feel in your own life. I think for Celine the line definitely points to Rene as being her first & only love therefore being her last love. For others who've had several lovers in their lives it's different. It could mean that their first love stays in their heart forever and will remain their only true love resulting in that person being their "last" love. Having said that, it doesn't necessarily mean that the first person you thought you loved is your true love - you could meet that person later in life and remain with them for the rest of your life - hence "first real love - last love".
