Oprah' Visit Helps Groban Soar To No. 1

After seven weeks on the chart, Josh Groban's holiday set "Noel" finally overtakes The Billboard 200 at No. 1. The 143/Reprise album ascends 2-1, selling 405,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The 81% increase was fuled in part by his surprise appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last week.

 

"Noel" is the first Christmas-themed set to top the chart since Kenny G's 1994 album "Miracles," and the 405,000 units marks Groban's best sales week ever.

 

Alicia Keys' "As I Am" (J) flip-flops with "Noel," slipping 1-2 with a 53% sales decrease to 349,000. The hits compilation "Now 26" climbs a notch 4-3 with 234,000. Garth Brooks' "The Ultimate Hits" (Pearl) moves up 5-4 with 192,000 (-6%) and the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" (Eagles Recording Co.) follows suit, ascending 6-5 with 184,000 (-7%).

 

The soundtrack to Disney's "High School Musical 2" rockets up 14-6 with a 130% sales increase to 183,000; with that, the set surpasses Daughtry's self-titled set as the top selling album in 2007.

 

Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride" (Arista Nashville) climbs 9-7 with 141,000 and a 25% sales bump, while Celine Dion's Columbia album "Taking Chances" falls 3-8 following a 40% sales decrease to 128,000. Inching up 10-9, Chris Brown's "Exclusive" (Jive) sells 121,000 (+10%).

 

Jordin Sparks, who was crowned the winner on "American Idol" earlier this year, starts at No. 10 with her self-titled 19 Recordings/Jive set, moving 119,000. It is the lowest start and smallest sales debut for any of the show's winners on the tally.

 

Keith Urban's first best-of collection, Capitol's "Greatest Hits," debuts at No. 11 with 117,000. It's the Aussie country singer's fourth straight album to start in the top 11, dating back to 2002's "Golden Road," which also entered at No. 11. MercyMe's "All That Is Within Me" (Columbia) lands at No. 15 with 84,000 and is also the act's fourth No. 1 on Top Christian Albums.

 

Only two other albums bow inside of the top 50 on The Billboard 200: Philly rapper Freeway's "Free at Last" (G-Unit/Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam) starts at No. 42 with 36,000 and the soundtrack to "Enchanted" (Disney) debuts at No. 48 with 31,000.

 

This week, the top 11 albums all sold more than 100,000 copies, helped by the first week of the post-Thanksgiving shopping season. However, sales this week (13.94 million units) are down 18.1% from the same week last year (17.02 million). This week's sum is up 19% from last week's.

 

 

Celine is #1 in Canada once again selling 44,000 copies. :kicking: :yes:

Celine Dion continued her mastery of the Canadian charts with the release of her latest album.

 

Dion's "Taking Chances," debuted at No. 1 last week with just under 80,000 in sales, and actually surpassed her own album as the top debut of 2007. (Her French-language album "D'elles" sold 72,000 in its first week back in May.)

 

It marks her 11th No. 1 album in the SoundScan era, and her ninth to debut at the top position.

 

Dion's high-water mark for Canadian sales remains 1997's "Let's Talk About Love," which had opening week sales of 230,000 -- a record debut which still stands to this day.

 

This week, the Quebec singer remained at the top of the heap, despite the usual second week drop in sales. "Taking Chances" rang up 44,000 copies, a drop of 45 percent, according to the latest figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.

Not far behind was Josh Groban's holiday album "Noel" (39,000), which moved from No. 5 to No. 2, thanks in large part to a surprise appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last week

Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" (Columbia) starts a second week at No. 1 on the new European Top 100 Albums chart, as does "Apologize" (Mosley/Blackground/Interscope) by Timbaland presents One Republic on Eurochart Top 100 Singles.

 

Dion's set falls from its debut positions in several European markets, 2-5 in Denmark, 2-6 in France, 5-7 in Germany, 5-8 in Italy and 5-10 in the United Kingdom. But it climbs 5-3 in the Belgian region of Wallony, 12-9 in Portugal and holds at No. 2 in Switzerland and No. 3 in Austria. The title track single falls 12-16 on the Eurochart.

 

In an unchanged top four on Top 100 Albums, the Eagles' "Long Road Out Of Eden" (Polydor) is at No. 2 again, Alicia Keys' "As I Am" (J) at No. 3 and Led Zeppelin's "Mothership" (Atlantic) at No. 4. "Long Road" falls 1-3 in Norway, 3-5 in Holland and 4-5 in Germany, but holds at No. 6 in Germany.

 

Keys is No. 1 for a second week in Switzerland and holds at No. 7 in Portugal, but falls 2-3 in Holland, 3-7 in Italy and 5-10 in France. "As I Am" arrives at No. 14 in the United Kingdom on sales of 28,000. Her first album, 2001's "Songs In A Minor," remains her most successful there, with sales of just over a million.

 

Zeppelin's compilation moves up 2-1 in Norway in its deluxe CD/DVD edition. "Mothership" is also up 5-3 in Ireland and 13-9 in Italy, but falls 4-5 in the United Kingdom and 7-10 in Germany.

 

"Jazz Ist Anders" (Hot Action) by German punk veterans Die Ärzte is back up 8-5 on Top 100 Albums, reversing its move of last week. The album holds off another German mainstay, Herbert Grönemeyer, to keep top spot there, as Grönemeyer debuts at No. 2 with "12 Live," a two-DVD in-concert package that provides the sequel to the studio album "12," released last March. The live set hits the pan-European chart at No. 14.

 

British chart sensation Leona Lewis is up 9-6 on the European survey with her debut album "Spirit" (Syco Music/Sony BMG), which continues its reign in the United Kingdom and Ireland. "Spirit" followed its opening U.K. tally of 375,000 with a second-week scorecard of just under 197,000.

 

Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" (Universal Island) falls 6-7 in its 19th consecutive week in the pan-European top 10, while Eros Ramazotti is down 5-8 with "E2" (Ariola). "Black" is up 6-5 in Switzerland, while "E2" loses its crown in Ramazotti's native Italy, dropping 1-4. "E2" succeeded in Italy by another local favorite, Ligabue, who debuts at No. 1 with "Primo Tempo" (Warner Bros.). That's the first of two planned best-ofs by the Italian rock singer, with another due next year.

 

His countryman Andrea Bocelli breaks into the composite European top ten 11-9 with his own retrospective, "Vivere" (Sugar), which falls 1-2 in Hungary and 3-4 in Norway, but holds at No. 8 in the United Kingdom. Irish vocal group Westlife holds at No. 10 on Top 100 Albums with "Back Home" (S/Sony BMG), which moves back 3-2 in the United Kingdom.

 

Timbaland's single is No. 1 for a second week in Germany and climbs 3-1 in Austria and 3-2 in Ireland and Switzerland. It also stays at No. 2 in Denmark and Norway. Rihanna's "Don't Stop The Music" (SRP/Def Jam), its predecessor atop the Eurochart, holds at No. 2.

 

Also in the Eurochart top 10, north-of-England club crossover "Heartbroken" (All Around The World) by T2 featuring Jodie Aysha is up 44-9 after climbing 14-2 on the U.K. chart.

 

French star Jenifer debuts at No. 10 with "Tourner Ma Page" (Mercury) after a local debut at No. 3.

刚在CN看到TC近来的战绩，实在喜人，难道大家都不激动吗......

 

这周TC在加拿大又重回No.1了！！！！

2007年年终销量排行Celine第19位！！！！这个实在太强了！！！！！

TC目前累计全年世界销量有219万多，这个销量比想象中的好很多！！！

 

另外 A New Day... DVD 的销量也是一样 Hot Hot Hot ！！！！

都多久了二单还没影呢，是不是要等到专辑下榜才开始二单的宣传？

AK和Celine一天发片，人家的二单早出来了，Sony到底怎么回事？

Eyes On Me 在英国的成绩惨不忍睹，#113，只卖出了 1000 多张，好像是有史以来 Celine 在英国成绩最差的一支单曲。SONY 根本就没作任何宣传，甚至很多想去买单曲的 Fans 都找不到这张盘。

我看了下英文区，里面提到了Eyes On Me#114？

我觉得这首歌好好宣传下成绩应该会不错的

Sony真该死！说什么很重视Celine这张专辑，我看到的却是Sony的心不在焉

现在都什么时候了，只在英国发了二单，成绩还这么差

美国连影儿还没有呢，难道打算给这张专辑只出一支单曲吗？

天哪，赶紧吧，美国赶快出Fade Away

目前反而比较看好AWTBI，虽然这首歌只是在日本发行的单曲....

歌曲本身的旋律琅琅上口，是很典型的席式情歌那种，另外，和本土歌手的合作应该对歌曲会有很大的促进作用，再加上Celine本身的号召力，希望Celine会在日本这块福地出来一首有所作为的单曲！！

唯一可惜的是，这首歌的合唱版里Celine的部分太少了，如果Celine也能加入一些日文进去就好了，还有最后的桥段部分，几个高音好希望出现的是Celine的高音！！

我想也许是Sony看到这次Celine的专辑销量很一般，不想再继续投入资金了

真的如楼上所说就等着Celine巡演来推动专辑的销售，Sony不是一般的变态

Celine09年退出后，不知道还会不会复出了，Sony就不能对这位昔日立下汗马功劳的功臣好点吗？
