Yeah I know, but you really can't compare the two films, lol. One is about ending segregation and the other one is about finding yourself.

And now I have switched over to my Hairspray music. hey davey, welcome to the 60s.!

haha, im glad you enjoyed that little joke. the sad thing is i had to look up a post to see how Seba writes it, lmao. I don't understand the photo tho?

Posted

hmm well I think Hairspray is also very much about finding yourself, or be proud of who you are, even more then the segration part!

hahaha it was funny to find out that mr. Pinky was the father in the orginal movie!

"whahaha that is sad :P well that's cos you never did watch cartoon network!

Hmm, well I was thinking of a quick write up of the two films when I wrote my post, but I still stand by it. Being proud of who you are, who wasn't proud? The obstacle of the music was in OTHER people telling them they weren't welcome. The Turnblads lived in their own little world, and Tracy was a very happy kid whose dream was to be on tv. She didn't have to find herself. She was strong and set out to destroy the accepted norms of Society.

lol.... that goes way too deep for me right now :giggle:

i thought one of the producers said [about being accepted and the meaning of the movie]: we are all combined by our combined differences :)

I bought the DVD a few months ago, and had no idea what to expect. I wanted to go and see Hairspray at the cinema but never got round to going. I'm so glad I bought it in the end though because it's an awesome movie, the casting was just phenominal and that was the selling point for me to begin with. I love Michelle Pheiffer and was interested to see her play a villain and star in a musical (I refuse to watch Grease 2) and I loved her. John Travolta as Edna was just brilliant and I was actually quite shocked but I loved him and he did an excellent job.

Seeing the movie has really made me wanna go and see the musical, hopefully I will at some point this year - the soundtrack is just <3 I love ''(The Legend Of) Miss Baltimore Crabs'' and ''I Know Where I've Been''. I actually forgot Queen Latifah was a singer, and I have to say she can belt out a good tune.

I havent seen it but by all the positive reviews on here I think i will have to watch it very soon.l

I saw it in DVD in march and I adored it since the beggining  . I bought the soundtrack inmediately and can't get enough of it. You Can't Stop The Beat, Without Love, Come So Far and Welcome To The 60's are my favourites.

Michelle Pfeiffer its BRILLIANT :in_love: (what an actress!) but Travolta is amazing. He really looks like a "she" :P

Btw, maybe you'll like to hear that there are plans for a Hairspray 2 :w00t: :w00t: .

The film version of the Broadway musical Hairspray, which itself was based on the original John Waters film, was such a hit that New Line Cinema has asked Waters to pen a sequel to the movie musical.

Variety reports that the project will reunite Waters with Adam Shankman, who directed and choreographed the film; producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan; and Hairspray songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Shaiman and Wittman will write new songs for the sequel.

No casting has been announced, although Variety reports that New Line hopes to snag much of the original “Hairspray” cast. The “Hairspray” movie musical grossed more than $200 million worldwide, and New Line hopes the sequel will be ready for a mid-July 2010 release by Warner Bros.

The “Hairspray” film cast John Travolta as the frumpy Edna Turnblad with newcomer Nikki Blonsky as daughter Tracy, the energetic teenager who shakes up her Baltimore town. Also in the film were Christopher Walken, Zac Efron, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Marsden, Amanda Bynes, Elijah Kelley and Allison Janney.

Director Shankman told Daily Variety, “I never thought of musicals as franchises, but it certainly worked with ‘High School Musical,’ and the idea of working with that cast again, and creating new material and music, is a dream come true. John (Waters) has such an original and extraordinary voice; we all can’t wait to see what he has come up with.”

The sequel will likely pick up where the “Hairspray” film left off, in 1962 Baltimore.

Can't wait!!
