BEIJING -- Chinese talk-show host Yang Lan made her fortune through television, newspapers and magazines, but she has spent the last few years building a free Web site boasting an almost 50-million-strong readership.

 

Now, Ms. Yang, who is frequently likened to Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart, is trying to convert all those readers of her collection of female-oriented electronic magazines and blogs into paying customers. First step: a site selling diamonds in a somewhat unlikely partnership with Canadian diva Céline Dion. Their venture, called HV Love, made its debut this month.

Alors que se termine son engagement à Las Vegas, Céline Dion se lance dans la vente d’une gamme de bagues de diamant en Chine. Elle s’est associée à une célébrité de la télé chinoise et à un manufacturier de bijoux dans une affaire de 35 millions de dollars.

 

La partenaire principale de Mme Dion dans cette aventure est Lan Yang, une animatrice télé et productrice de 39 ans dont l’influence en Asie dépasse celle d’Oprah Winfrey et de Martha Stewart aux États-Unis, explique René Angélil.

 

«Céline est l’artiste occidentale la plus populaire en Chine. Ça (la mise en marché d’une gamme de bijoux) fait partie de notre tournée de spectacles à annoncer. Quand Céline sera en Chine en avril 2008, on va faire de la promotion», a-t-il révélé hier.

 

La notoriété des deux femmes a attiré dans l’affaire Neoglory Jewellery, la plus importante compagnie d’accessoires d’orfèvrerie en Chine.

 

Cette dernière investit 35 M$ pour la mise en marché des bijoux des 2 femmes et la construction, d’ici à 2010, de 1 000 boutiques dans lesquelles leurs collections se retrouveront en bonne place.

 

Les premières boutiques devraient ouvrir à l’automne, précise M. Angélil.

 

Quant aux divas, elles n’y mettent pas un cent.

Her Village Media Co. Ltd - Feelings Productions Inc., and Her Village Inc., owned respectively by international, pop-music, superstar Celine Dion and famed, Chinese journalist and multi-media host Yang Lan have announced that they have joined forces to create a new line of diamond engagement rings, personal jewelry and exclusive women's accessories to be sold under the corporate name HV Love.

 

 

In a recent interview, Yang Lan said that she and Celine Dion will cater to China's urban female consumer, through leveraging China's growing love-affair with diamond jewelry. With the Chinese diamond and precious stone market reaching $20.8 billion (USD) in 2006 - one third of which represented diamond sales alone - and gift and accessories sales reaching $13.1 billion, the new company will combine the extensive multi-media penetration of Sun Media with the mass-popularity of Yang Lan and Celine Dion in China to rapidly establish customer awareness for HV Love.
