Is Celine Dion Mission Concert artist?

12:50PM Wednesday July 04, 2007

While the Mission Concert promoters maintain a "no comment" stance on who will headline next year's concert a growing number of Hawke's Bay people reckon the "Titanic singer" could get the nod.

Rumours that 39-year-old Canadian- born singer Celine Dion will take the big stage next February have been circulating for the past month - but over the past week had become strong enough to prompt some to contact Hawke's Bay Today with a "we know who it is" message.

Sport and Entertainment Ltd's operations manager Garry Craft would no comment, simply reiterating that an announcement on the artist would be made as soon as the ink was dry on the contract. However, Mr Craft did add that Celine Dion was an artist "we would welcome to perform at the Mission."

A check with the diva's performance schedule shows that a February performance would be possible. Her four-year residency at the Colosseum theatre, at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, ends on December 15.

Her next scheduled performance is in Paris on May 19, 2008, where she begins a six-concert run at the Le Bercy theatre.

Dion is best known for songs like The Power of Love, That's The Way it Is and My Heart Will Go On - the theme from the film Titanic.

Her song catalogue contains pop, rock, gospel and classical.

Umm...because she wanted to ask a question? What's wrong with that?

I'm guessing New Zealand won't be a part of this tour. We would have heard something by now, I think.
