Problem with downloaded files from the site.

Yesterday I installed FlashGet, and it labeled all my file extentions as .mp3, but they're not mp3. They're the weird file type I keep having trouble with.

I can't play them, I can't convert them, and I can't burn them to disc. I've tried the reccommended things and nothing works. I can't find .M2V in my file extention types box, and at the moment, they're absolutely useless. Could someone please help me? I'm desperate. I want to be able to listen to these files on my vomputer and in my CD player, and I have yet to accomplish anything passed downloading them.

Now, after encountering an error in Window's Media Player for the fifteenth time that says "Windows Media Player has encountered an error and needs to close...", I switched to Real Player, thinking that it might play them. But it says that it can't play them because it has encountered something in the files, and that they might be "corrupt".

What do I do? Should I try the other reccommended downloading software? And does anyone have any idea how I can convert these crazy things to mp3?

Thank you for listening. I hope I find a solution soon!

:)

What kind of files are they at the moment?

Try going to MY COMPUTER

TOOLS then FOLDER OPTIONS

under the VIEW tab... ADVANCED uncheck the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types" then apply then OK.

Now you can go to your files and rename them with the correct extension code... .m2v or whatever it needs to be. :)

Hope this helps you!

They say they're mp3, but they're not. The website says they're M2V's, so I'm not quite sure what they are.

Thank you. But how will changing the extentions on the end change my problem?

I have changed the setting, so now hopefully I can change the extention on the end. But when it is changed, will it automatically convert the file to an mp3 etc?

:)

Haven't figured out the codes to the smileys yet, or I'd be using more of them! Smileys are cute, and I have over 100 of them on my Invision Free forum, including Titanic. It was the closest thing I could get to Celine.

Thanks guys, for all your help. I really appreciate this. I'm dying to play my files. *sniffles* Wonder if it will be fixed by the weekend?

The changes haven't made any difference. I'm wondering if the files really are messed up? Or the download manager?

Hmmm... Well upload one of the files and post it here and I'll see if I'm able to convert it or not. If it can't be done then it means the source you got it from isn't very good. :ermm:

Yes, I would like to have mp3 copies to play in a CD player, or to be able to play on my computer. My computer won't play the others, no matter what I do.

I'll try and upload one of the files here. But I've never uploaded a music file before, so if it doesn't come out right, I'm sorry.

I couldn't upload one of them, "Happy To Meet You.mp3". This is the eeror message I got from the site.

I'll try your suggestions. But when I upload to one of those sites, where do I send the file to?

I really thank everyone for their help, but why can't all the files be converted to mp3 and redistributed? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had or is having this problem.

I'm sure it can be converted. You just need the right program and I THINK I might have the right program to do it. All I need is the one of the "messed up" files.

What is the name of the program, because if it works, I would like to download it from somewhere to convert all of my files.

I downloaded the media player and firefox, and the media player hasn't played one yet.

I still don't know where to send the file to once I upload it to megaupload. Does it send it here?

It seems as something "may" be terribly wrong with your computer, can it play any videos at all? :confused1: I've never seen so many problems with video playback.

Lol. Yes, my computer will play videos. But the files I downloaded aren't videos, are they? I thought they were regular audio files.

Anyway, I've never had this much trouble with music before either. But Celine's worth it if I can get the files to work.

Well if you could send me the one of the files ASAP, I'll see what I can whip up.

Hmmmm. It's strange how you said when you downloaded "I Have To Dream" from my website and said when you tried extracting it, it didn't work. Because, frankly, it worked for me. Do the files you're having trouble with have the the ZIP. extension? Also, what program are you using to extract your files?

I'm not sure what I'm using. I think it's a file wizard, probably one that came with my computer. My Windows Media Player is version 10 though, and I've never had trouble playing files before. As a matter of fact, I just played one that I downloaded from Wal-Mart this morning. *sighs sadly*

One of the files is on it's way! :)

Most of them are videos.

Can you make a screen capture of your windows explorer showing the files and others that may be helpful.

Press Print Screen key, go to Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > Paint > press CRTL+V > Save As. And then upload it to www.imageshack.us

Also, you should try VLC @ www.videolan.org

PS Are you a male or female? I'd want to know who I'm helping. ^_^

I am a female, and we're close to the same age.

I have VLC, and it won't play them either. I hit "enter" onn the file I want to play, and nothing happens passed the opening of the VLC pannel.

Do you want screen shots of the open files? If I send a screen shot of my window's explorer, it will show the files, along with every other file in My Documents.

It just gives the name of them, and it has ".mp3" on the end of most of them. But I changed the extention to ".M2V" on Hello Mego Live, so now it reads "Hello Mego Live.mp3".

I'll send a screen shot of the downloads file where the files are located. It will make more sense. But we're back to the same thing again. Where do I send it to? Do I send it to you or to the forums?

Changing the file extensions won't help. mp3 and m2v are totally separate things, don't do that. For VLC, you have to drag the file to the window and it'll start playing. And you can upload your files to www.sendspace.com it doesn't matter which email you use, it'll display a download link after you are done uploading.

I believe the problem is solved...? (It hasn't been confirmed yet... but I think I found out what the problem was.)

Because she sent me the file that she had and it didn't work for me either. But she also told me that she got it from my site, so I tried downloading it off of my site and it turns out that the downloading program she's using is wacked up. (Or so that's what it seems like.)

 www.tightvnc.com is useful in these types of cases if you trust us enough.

TightVNC is a free remote control software package derived from the popular VNC software. With TightVNC, you can see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer.
