Celine and Sang Lan

Sang Lan is a former Chinese gymnast who was left paralized after an accident while warming up her vault at the 1998 Goodwill Games. She was a very promising gymnast, she would have made it big time.

 

Her accident happened in New York and she had the best possible treatment. This was very publicised back then and many celebrities came to her aid, including Leonardo Dicaprio and our own Celine.

 

Nowadays Sang Lan has regained the movement in her arms, has finished college and will be a torch bearer next year in Beijing. She always thanks for all the support she received from these people around the world.

 

Here you can see a picture of her and Celine, when Celine visited her in the hospital. You can also see the autographed picture of Celine that Sang Lan keeps in the wall of her bedroom. Celine has a very big heart and always comes in aid of those who need.

I remember this unfortunate accident.

Her positive and upbeat attitude touched the heart of many NYers. She was at Mt Sinai Hospital for rehabilitation. Dr Ragnarrson was her psychiatrist http://directory.mssm.edu/faculty/facultyI...5&deptid=35 who oversaw her treatment. He was my Dr while I lived in the NY area for my paralysis. She was extremely fortunate to have such a competent and compassionate person working with her.
