Celine 为 Luther Vandross 献唱 "Dance With My Father"

JANET JACKSON, MARIAH CAREY, MARY J BLIGE, CELINE DION and ANGIE STONE are among a host of stars who are taking part in a LUTHER VANDROSS tribute album.

 

Although a jazz tribute album honouring Vandross was released last year (04), the new project, which was dreamed up by music mogul CLIVE DAVIS, will be more of a direct translation of the soul veteran's work.

 

Producer JIMMY 'JAM' HARRIS says, "Mariah and Janet both called and said they were interested in doing something for it.

 

"This is really the best of the best singers coming together. It's going to be an incredible project.

 

"It's basically artists doing Luther Vandross songs, but they're doing them their way. Some of the arrangements are very similar to Luther's arrangements."

 

Vandross suffered a debilitating stroke almost two years ago

LOS ANGELES - Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Monica and Angie Stone are among the artists contributing songs to the album “To Luther, With Love ... A Tribute to Luther Vandross.”

 

The collection, which was in the works long before Luther Vandross’ July 1 passing, will come out Sept. 20 on J Records.

 

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are helming many of the tracks. Jam stresses that the producing duo spent much time pairing artists with songs.

 

“It’s important to give each artist their own palette,” Jam says. “Like when Mary J. Blige does ’Never Too Much,’ it’s how it would have sounded on her ’What’s the 411?’ album. That’s the sort of approach that we took with it, so that it becomes her song. Celine Dion just stuns you with how beautiful she sings ’Dance With My Father,’ and really, all the artists are like that.”

 

Jam says working on the album renewed his appreciation for how much Vandross brought to his material. “A lot of times we’ve taken a song and it was a great song when Luther sang it, and when Luther doesn’t sing it, it somehow loses something.”

 

A portion of the album’s proceeds will go to a charity that is yet to be determined.

Luther Vandross' Tribute Album - Issue Date

 

      Singer Luther Vandross died July 1 at the age of 54. He spent his career singing about the power of love but he haf to battle several serious health problems during his adult life, including diabetes, hypertension and obesity. On Apr. 16, 2003, he suffered a near-fatal stroke at his Manhattan apartment from which he never fully recovered. Before his death, R&B producers Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam began work on a tribute album to the star, featuring Mary J. Blige, Celine Dion (who recorded "Dance With My Father") and Ruben Studdard, and due out later this year.

and im glad that celine is one of them and i like her singing the song dance with my father which is really emotional for her because her father dies and she could relate to it as a person who witness how she lost her father
